Literally love coming to Sharkey's in Poway!!!! We've been coming here for a while and by a while I mean a couple of years. My son was a toddler since we started coming here. I will say it took my son some time to get use to a hair cut in which he would yell and scream. However the stylist were very patient and kind. My son is now 6 and sits like a champ through his haircut. Of course, the option of watching tv or playing games helps distract him. We've also kept to a single stylist which her name is Marisol. I love how she still listens to what we want but also inputs suggests new ideas. For the past 5 or 6 haircuts, she has been the one to cut my son's hair and honestly we'll keep the same. Marisol will always be the stylist we pick! At the end of every haircut, my son gets his lollipop and balloon. Along with his haircut, we build up points ; so make sure to create an account because if you have a certain amount of points you can get a free haircut!!!!! read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS HERE!!!!!!! They butchered my daughters beautiful hair. We went in for a trim and amy dry cut and make it completely made it uneven, then she took my 4 year old to wash her hair and completely SOAKED her! Paige said she would blow dry her off at the end. SHE DID NOT! My daughter was shivering. After that Paige trimmed some more , which I figured she fixed the butcher job. When she "finished" she put my daughters hair in a high WET ponytail.When we got home and I took it out I could see the awful job! As a "professional " hairdresser there is no way you should let someone leave a salon looking like that. Absolutely unacceptable. My daughter is going to be crushed when she sees how awful her hair looks and that we need to get it cut again. During the haircut There was no interaction between Paige and my daughter. I recently took my daughter in for her very first "professional" haircut. We booked an appt with Hoatham for a Sunday. We came in and the place was packed. My daughter got a seat towards the back since she was older. The ambiance was very kid friendly. There was a tv at the station so my daughter got to watch something. It was very quiet. No music or anything. The service itself was nice. My daughter got a wash, haircut, style and her nails done. She loved it all. The reason for my 3 stars is the cut itself. I did not realize that the cut would just be a blunt cut across. I was watching the whole time and Hoatham did not try to measure the sides or make anything even. She was just chopping away. My daughter's hair is very thick at the bottom with no texture at all. It's also not cut evenly either. I actually had to try to fix what was done at home that night. Honestly I would have rather gotten a better haircut instead of all the extra stuff for the price we paid. I don't think I will be coming back here. read more

We have been there 3 different times with scheduled appointments. First appointment my child ended up with botched micro bangs (think Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber) Second appointment we tried to schedule with a different stylist and when we got there we were told they were changing to a different stylist without notice (ended up with the first stylist and a second botched haircut) The third and last time? We made sure to look at the reviews for the stylists and chose a specific one but when we got there, AGAIN, our stylist had changed and left my child with a botched hair cut again. Why would they give you the option to schedule an appointment with a stylist if when you get there they're going to give you a random stylist. We really tried to like this place but my poor child has had 3 botched haircuts and pretty expensive ones, and it's not worth it. read more

The place is very kid friendly. The barber seats really help keep kids distracted while getting a haircut. The staff are very nice and helpful. Have your kids first haircut can be an anxious time, but the people here are so accommodating and reassuring. We want to keep our babies looking like babies but with a cleaner haircut. For first haircuts they take pics and give you a remembrance certificate. They make the experience fun for the kids which I appreciate. I recommend this place for kids haircuts. We've been going here for a few years and the staff were better overall. The last few visits the people at the front desk act like they're doing you a huge favor. Very unfriendly. The stylist was alright but wasn't too friendly with my 4 year old. The last 2 visits they made us wait for 20 minutes (I was late by 5 min today but not the last time). Not a word of apology. Not a thank you, or an acknowledgment when I say thank you from the front desk staff. Definitely not what you expect when you are paying $35 and the tip defaults to a minimum of 20% or more. We booked an appointment for our child to get a haircut days in advance. We arrived at our scheduled time and the front desk attendant (FDA) was nowhere to be seen. We were told by the hairstylists to find a spot to sit and wait until she came back to check us in. She arrived about 10 minutes later and I gave her our info, she checked us in and told us they would be calling our child soon. She said she was aware we arrived on time. There were two customers: two ladies with two kids apiece, one of their two kids were having their hair cut by the two available hairstylists that day. We waited an additional 10 minutes (20 minutes had passed from our original appointment) and I asked for the hairstylist whose name appeared on the appointment confirmation text we had received a few days ago. I was told rudely by the FDA that our child would be attended by the next available hairstylist, that the name on the text didn't matter. A couple of minutes later I noticed that one of the hairstylists had just taken into her seat the "sibling" of the child they had been providing services for. She didn't even check with the front desk attendant WHO was next in the queue! The mother of the child was even "surprised " that they made time to take her second child in! The front desk attendant (FDA) saw everything. I went up to the FDA and asked if my child's turn had been pushed back because our schedule for the day was tight and we had arrived on time for our appointment, which was now 25 minutes past our original scheduled time. She said nothing. I asked if we were being asked to wait another 25 to 30 minutes to have our child's haircut and her snarky reply was "if at that"! I told her two minutes later that we were canceling the appointment because we had a planned schedule we had to fulfill for the day and she asked if I wanted to cancel completely or rebook. I told her to just cancel. She was surprised and her demeanor eased up and asked if I cared to rebook the appointment for the following weekend. She added she could do it right on the spot. I replied No and just asked her to cancel the existing appointment altogether. Suffice to say that we will not be going back to the Sharkey's in Poway because of the lack of courtesy and respect for our time. Such a disorganized situation with improper management skills. Scheduling online was easy, getting my kids out the door on time was not. We called in advance to let them know exactly how many minutes past our appointment start time we would be, and fortunately they gave us grace. There wast a need to reschedule, so we were introduced to the stylist. My 19m old leaned out of my arms to get into one of the "cars" and was just thrilled to sit there. Bluey was on the TV in front of her and she was so distracted, I don't think she even remembered to be concerned about the stranger interacting with her hair. It was over very quickly! Like magic, but i know its all skill. We were offered a lock of her hair to keep and it was packaged in a little plastic pouch, and oir kids were offered balloons and lollipops! They require an appointment and were over 45 minutes behind, horrible service. We called at 1:30 and made an appointment for 2:20. How do you get that far behind so fast. If you make appointments you should respect the time. Not great when you bring a kid for a haircut then have to entertain them while waiting when you have an appointment. read more

My granddaughter had her first haircut here and stylist Farrah did a wonderful job with her hair. She put her at ease straight away and was gentle and caring. She went the extra mile to make her happy. Her finished hair style was so pretty and she applied glitter and pretty clips to her hair. The price for haircut with all the extras was so reasonable. Farrah also did her nails which was so cute. Afterwards our granddaughter looked like a princess with parents and grandparents snapping photos of her. Sharkey's in Poway is our go-to place to get a haircut for our almost 2 year old. The barbers are so calm and collected and I commend their talent because it's not easy to cut the hair of a toddler. The first time we went I had to hold my son because he was so scared. But the second and third time we just put on the TV and he watched and was so good. As you can see in one of the pictures the barber was actually able to shave to almost a 2 and my son tolerated it. He loves Spider-Man so he loved the Spider-Man car and he was pulling the wheel back and forth during his haircut. He also had his first ever lollipop there which was a sweet touch. We will definitely be back soon! We try and go every couple of months so that my son's hair isn't too much in his face. Thank you Sharkey's for taking care of my baby! You all are angels! read more

We took our little one for her first official haircut at Sharkeys in Poway. Our overall experience was pretty good. The set-up and decor are definitely intended for children, which is fun for them. In observing the salon during our visit, it seems some hairstylist are more engaging and interactive with children than others, which can make a big difference in your experience. Our hairdresser was pleasant and accommodating. Our daughter received the first haircut service and had a good time overall. They accidentally vacuumed up her hair right after the service, forgetting to set aside a lock of hair (part of the package we purchased). They did manage to find some stray hairs to provide us, but it's pretty sparse and a bit disappointing. Overall it was a pretty good experience. read more

I'd like to say I could leave a review on their service but I can't because they canceled my daughter appt 1 hr before her scheduled time due to another stylist (not hers) calling out. So they canceled my daughter appt not the client whose stylist called out. I asked her if she could reschedule the other persons appt because we had plans for later and couldn't come at a different time. I explained to her that we picked this place specifically because we were donating my daughter's hair and this is the place that the organization sent us too. ZERO STARS! I wouldn't recommend this place, especially if it's your child's first haircut. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. My son was nervous since it was his first haircut, and he cried for about 7 minutes before calming down and getting ready. However, the stylist assigned to us refused to cut his hair and asked us to cancel the appointment. She even went to hide afterward, leaving us without any assistance. The lack of customer service and patience was disappointing. Thankfully, we found SAM's Barbershop in Old Poway, where the staff was courteous, friendly, and most importantly, patient. They turned what could have been a stressful experience into a positive one. I highly recommend them instead. read more

I don't like leaving poor reviews but I'm very disappointed with our latest experience with Sharkeys. I made an appointment for a boys cut earlier in the week for a Sunday morning at 10:40 am. I then confirmed my appointment later in the week. The morning of with just 20 mins prior to our appointment we received a text letting us know the stylist called out sick and they were too busy to take us. I called the salon to see what else could be done and mentioned it was very frustrating to receive notice 20 mins prior to our appointment. The woman I spoke with had nothing to say but "okay". I get things happen, people get sick, short staffing, etc but an apology really goes along way. I received none of that. I also tried to find out when we can come to get my son a haircut but was given no answers and just reminded how busy they are. I doubt we'll be coming back to Sharkeys anytime soon. Poor customer service really leaves a bad taste in your mouth. read more

No one introduces themselves and or shows any customer service skills towards the parent and or child. I have been to this location twice, my first experience was with a rude stylist . While waiting for our appointments, we watched the stylists working with other kids. I was shocked when Marisol dropped her comb on the ground, then picked it up and continued to use it on the little girl whose hair she was braiding. That's a Health Code violation. Marisol ended up being the stylist for my oldest granddaughter. When her cut was finished, the back was really uneven. The bottom layer was longer than the top & it looked unprofessionally cut. I had to explain to Marisol that she needed to have the kids look down while she cut the back so that didn't happen. She did that and evened out the cut, which is why I'm giving 3 stars instead of just 1. read more

So glad we found this place for kids haircuts! There's so much entertainment here for them to distract them from the cut. haha. The staff here are really friendly and patient with the kids. Sharkeys in Poway is AMAZING!! We took our son here today for his first haircut at 6 years old! Jessica cut his hair and is so sweet & patient! Our son Ryder got to play Xbox while getting his haircut and will be donating 17" (FOUR ponytails) to the organization Children With Hair Loss and Sharkeys provided us with the form. Our daughter Lilly got a trim and blue/silver tinsel installed by Teale (also sweet and did an amazing job) and got to watch Bluey on Disney + during her service! My kids love it here! The staff is so pleasant and friendly' The salon is super clean as well. I will continue to bring my babies here as they had an amazing experience! My one year old got his first haircut here. The place is wonderful and it's very kid friendly. My son was able to sit in a little truck while someone cut his hair. I only ran into two issues that were minor, hence the 4 stars: 1. Her first appointment was running long, so we were waiting a good 10 minutes before it was our turn 2. His haircut wasn't straight I understand that he's 1 and little babies aren't the best clients. It was definitely a great experience and it cost around $40 - we did opt into a first hair cut certificate which include a lock of his baby hair. read more

However, you will notice in the photo how uneven her hair is. I definitely could have eyeballed and done a better job at home. Very disappointing experience . We have been going to Sharkys for few years and never had such experience and felt so disrespected . The stylist, Kristina was super rude. She was cutting my son's bangs in an angle and when I tried to tell her that his bangs are uneven, she schooled me about what trim meant. I scheduled an appointment for both my girls about 2 weeks in advance through the website. The next day I get a text message that the appointments were canceled. I called the shop and left a message asking for the purpose. Usually, if a salon has a conflict, they call the person to apologize and reschedule. I did not receive any of that. This is actually the second time this has happened. The first time was a couple years ago. I've never even been to the salon. We came in for our 3 year old son's first haircut. His hair was super long and we wanted to donate it. I had already set up the donation through the nonprofit of my choice, but the stylist insisted she knew what she was doing. I had to fight to get her to cut it the way that the donation was asking for. She was cold and rude, she was late to our appointment and she was impatient with my son. Also, every cut is supposed to come with a shampoo, and she did not shampoo his hair, she didn't even offer. She was careless with the cape, so he had hair clippings making him uncomfortable on his neck. He has ASD, so he is very sensitive to small things like this. She pushed on without even stopping to ask if he was ok when he was crying and clearly upset. She rushed the entire thing, probably because she was late to begin with. They say they offer sensory toys and weighted capes, but we did not get that option. The stylist seemed irritated right from the start. This was his FIRST HAIRCUT IN ALL 3 YEARS OF HIS LIFE and she ruined it for all of us. The whole experience was totally ruined. I will never get this day back. read more
