Been here a few times when I needed an emergency hair cut. Reasonable prices and excellent service. You can't beat the location literally a few blocks from my home. I like that there isn't a line - compared to my go to barbershop. I feel that the stylists take their time here to listen and make your clip great. My son got a haircut on Tuesday March 22nd at the 4s ranch location: He asked the hairdresser to not touch/cut his bangs. Not only did the hairdresser not evenly give him a buzz but she decided on her own without asking to trim his bangs. She said it looked better as she was trimming it. We have been going to Great Clips for at least 5 years now. We have 3 kids and would bring them all in to get their haircut. So, there was no reason to think that my daughters experience would had been bad. My 15 year old daughter sat down with Evelyn. By the time Evelyn was finished with her haircut, she paid and went to the car. My daughter was in tears, bawling. She explained how she had never experienced such an aggressive, rough, disrespectful haircut. Not only was she unhappy with the haircut, she had been traumatized by the aggressive actions Evelyn had toward her. She roughly pulled and brushed her hair, she kept squirting water in her face, she acted as if she was in a rush, held her hair in a ponytail and cut it straight with the scissors. She then roughly ran the scissors down the back of her hair to "thin it out"; this frightened my daughter. She thought Evelyn might cut her neck. Her hair was butchered! This is unacceptable customer service for anyone! But to treat a child that way is absolutely uncalled for! We will NOT be returning! Please do not send your child to the stylist Evelyn! read more

My son is a regular at the 4S Commons Great Clips. The one and only time we deviated from visiting here to try out a Poway barber was an experience we regret. After that regrettable haircut experience that resulted in my son's hair being completely shaved off, we returned back to Great Clips and will continue to be loyal because of my son's hair stylist Evelyn. The Great Clips store is located within the 4S Commons shopping center. It is located next to Bed Bath and Beyond, next to a Verizon Wireless store, and across from Wells Fargo. The seating area has 7 chairs, you're surrounded by a bunch of hair products, and there's a television for entertainment. They've got a selection of magazines to peruse. I highly recommend that you check in using the Great Clips app. If you show up at the store without checking in, there could be a long wait. Great Clips also has a rewards program where you punch in your phone number everytime you visit. Lastly, feel free to request the hair stylist each time you visit. My son prefers Evelyn, so despite checking in, we have to wait sometimes while Evelyn finishes the customer ahead of us. It definitely was karma when my son wanted to try out a "hip" barber in Poway. He had gotten his hair cut by Evelyn and we didn't have anything to complain about. He wanted to try a new place, which was a bad mistake. Great Clips will be my son's go to hair cut place from now on. What's cool about Great Clips is that whatever hair cut my son had the previous visit such as inches cut off, shaved on the side and back, and straight sideburns, that info is captured into the computer. My son loves the way Evelyn cuts his hair. She provides quality customer service, is always friendly, and addresses my son by his name each time we visit. It's a blessing to know that my son can always count on Evelyn providing him with a quality haircut to his liking. Haircuts are $18 and we always give Evelyn a tip to thank her for another successful 'do. We might have strayed one time to try out a barber that had rave reviews. I'll never be returning to Great Clips. I have long, very thick 2B/2C type curly hair and have been going to Great Clips for the past 15 years. Growing up, I was incredibly self-conscious about my unruly hair and constantly kept it tied up, but in recent years, I've finally grown to love it. I had Paula as my hairdresser today. As many people with curly hair will likely understand, I typically only brush my hair in the shower with ample conditioner. On the rare occasion I brush it dry, my hair always requires a healthy amount of detangler or deep conditioner to get a brush through it. At first glance, Paula pronounced my hair "ruined" and proceeded to brush it out completely dry, with no detangler whatsoever. I was in obvious discomfort, and Paula kept brushing. I take good care of my hair and spend a lot of time researching the best products for my hair type. I do spend a lot of time doing water sports, and it shows in my hair -- it's streaked with natural highlights and can get somewhat dry if I haven't been deep-conditioning regularly. Paula reprimanded me for irreparably "coloring" my hair, which I've never done, and continually tried to push me to buy extra moisturizing products. I'm disappointed that I didn't advocate for myself further today. But the more I thought about my experience, the more upset I became. It's taken me too long to come to this conclusion, but no one should never have to apologize for their hair in its natural state. Many times over the years at Great Clips, I've felt ashamed by my hair. It's clear to me that Great Clips values quantity of cuts over quality, and dealing with my thick curls puts them behind schedule. I came home extremely upset today, and quite literally had a headache from all the tugging and pulling on my scalp. I know that my hair isn't the easiest to cut. But Great Clips, a company that touts accessibility on its very homepage, seems to only cater to very specific types of hair. I know that a haircut is just a haircut, but I want to celebrate my hair, not feel guilty for it. My hair isn't too long, curly, frizzy, or tangled. My hair isn't "ruined." My hair may not be the easiest to brush or cut (which I understand firsthand, I'm the one who has to deal with it everyday!), but everyone deserves a positive haircutting experience, and I'm no exception. When I looked in the mirror at home, I thought the left side looked longer. I got out my straightener and then held up the mirror to look at the back in all the rooms I have with mirrors: I thought, "Am I holding my head crooked?" No. They cut it at a slant!!! I just left great clips in 4s ranch and the first interaction with the hair cutter she cuts an entire chunk off the right side of my hair using no guard. I came into the store wanting a 2 on all sides and a slight trim on top and I walked out with a full on military haircut. This is crazy, the manager isn't available either so there is no way for me to get it fixed until another day. The outcome and finish of this haircut is just a 0 but the manager has since responded offering to fix it up when it has grown back more. read more

Location/setting: -Located at a shopping center near BBB and Ralphs -Plenty of parking -Small hair salon (don't expect high-end decor) -There is a check-in monitor/screen that tells you where you are on the waiting list. Nice feature. They call your name when it's your turn. Customer service: -The young lady who greeted me seemed liked the unhappiest person on earth. Geez. A smile wouldn't hurt. -My hairdresser was quite pleasant though. I think her name was Evelyn..a nice older Filipina lady. -I usually am iffy about these places..I mean you get what you pay for, but I just wanted a trim and she did a pretty good job. Through dying and flat ironing, I was having hair dilemmas. I had major dry split ends so I wanted a mini hair makeover. She was very attentive and wanted to make sure that I knew exactly what she was going to do. I wanted to keep my hair medium length. She took off a good 3 inches and cleaned up my layers from before. I must say it made a huge difference. My dead ends are gone ! Yay ! -I also had her shampoo my hair. Great mini massage too. The whole process took less than 30 minutes. Additional info: -For $20 not too shabby. I wish I had a coupon. I hear they have $5 off coupons all the time so keep an eye out for those. -If you check-in online (or use Great Clips app.), you won't have to wait too long, but since this was a random spur of the moment thing, I had to wait for 15-20 minutes on a Saturday. We have been here a handful of times. I haven't had any problems until my son came for a trim with Evelyn... when I asked for a medium fade, she kept asking if my son if he wants the same cut he had 1 year ago! We firmly said "no." And I told her we want him to have a medium fade. She then asked "do you want connected or disconnected?" I asked "what?" And she kept repeating herself... my son had to explain what he wanted (how is a kid's explanation understood more than mine? It boggles me) so I watched her do her thing. When she was done, I asked Evelyn, "is this a medium fade? Because it looks like a low fade." She insisted "it's blended.. you see.. it's blended." I gave her a blank stare... so i then asked "what you're saying is.. it's not longer called a fade, it's now called blended!?" On occasion, I come here for my kids to get their haircuts, but it's pretty much because it's the closest place and they're open until 9pm. They are overpriced unless you have a $9.99 coupon, or one of those promo discount cards you can buy from local high school students for fundraising...with those you get $2 off, so it's still $14 for a basic cut and no shampoo. The stylists sometimes make you second guess your style requests. I don't appreciate that especially when I show them a photo of what I want for my boys. It's like they don't want to put any effort into the style for kids. Nobody seems happy to be working there either. That's the vibe I get anyway. 2 stars for convenience. read more

Definitely stay away. I made the mistake of coming here, but I hope you take your $20 elsewhere. A lady cut my hair and I gave her pictures for reference but she simply could not understand the style I was hoping for. And the style I wanted was what I already had, just a shorter trimmed version. Her manager can see this so he comes out (really nice white guy) and pulls her aside to explain how to perform this experiment (for her it truly was, an experiment) on my head but she completely misses the mark, and then tells me towards the end that she needs to go get her glasses because she could never see the picture clearly. This is the part of the experiment where the scientist realizes that he did not in fact find a cure to cancer for humans, instead for snails. He was looking at snails the whole time. He simply forgot to wear his glasses. Good for the snails though. I was left dumbfounded and so I curtly mention on her return that maybe glasses before the cut next time (if ever I am truly feeling clinically insane to decide to come back) would be better. In a dismissive tone I hear "oh it's okay honey, you have everything to gain nothing to lose as your hair will grow back!" This is like going to the bakery, eating rotten bread, and being told "but food poisoning only lasts a couple of days!" It's cool though, I guess she's right, it'll grow back, can't argue there no I can't, but I'll need to be able to explain why I resemble a hairless cat. Notable mentions: - bald spot on the back of my head. Looks botched. But it will grow back, right?! Perhaps a new motto for you Greatclips. "We're not sorry it will grow back" - the lady seemed insufferable. She is angry at the world.
