I will literally never come back here and I hope management looks into the woman who was working when we went. I took my 10 year old daughter between 5pm and 6pm on May 5th. The woman we encountered was probably one of the most miserable people I have come across in a children's hair establishment. When we first walked in we were so happy and excited. I simply asked the woman if she could tell me the prices and services offered. She barely glanced at us and told me I could look it up on google. Seriously? Lol. So even then my daughter was so excited that I didn't care. I told her we wanted wash cut and blowout. I also inquired about the glitter strands they advertised. She was just such an unhappy woman. She looked miserable and didn't even bother talking to my daughter. My daughter kept glancing over at me because she was so uncomfortable. After a long time the woman told me she was finished and my daughter's hair looked awful. I asked her why it wasn't styled etc and she said oh that's because it's extra and I'm trying to go home. I told her I did not care about paying extra and this was the service we wanted so she went back and styled her hair and took over 30 mins applying the glitter strands. We came to this location a few years ago and it was nothing like this. I truly hope the owner sees this review and makes some changes because that miserable woman doesn't need to be working with kids. Oh and to top it off when we were checking out she chose her own rating lol. She gave herself 5 stars on the screen. Booked up an appointment at 10:30 a.m. the morning of. Didn't realize that my daughter's haircut included a manicure. (With a free ring) That was fun. We didn't get anything complicated, just a trim. Sharkey's accomodated a walk-in service for my son. The staff was pleasant as they took our information and got my son settled in for his haircut The haircut stations have a wide variety of activities and shows for the children to keep their attention while the cut happens. They have xbox minecraft, netflix, amazon, youtube kids and more. My son chose a lego Star Wars show. The set up inside the shop is parent and kid friendly. There is an angled mirror above each station so the parents have a view from both front and back of the haircut. I've come here a few times and absolutely appalled at the service I had on Friday. I have been working to contact a manager because I am incredibly disgusted. - my appt was at 2:20pm. I walked in at 2:22pm even the receptionist confirmed yet amy took someone else so I had to wait 15 min bc I was 2 min late. - amy spent about 10 min explaining to me the price for shampoo or no shampoo is the same. Most places don't provide shampoo. Which is a lie. The reason I was questioning it is because we've never been offered a shampoo when there. They use a water bottle. I was told "maybe they were busy." If I am paying for it, I should be getting it. - amy shampooes my daughter's head. She starts talking about sick kids. She says some have cancer and I don't want to touch them. I stay away. I was shocked. I have a family member who is in remission. I tried hard to keep my composure. - she starts cutting. There are 2 kids screaming when the mom exits with them. Amy rolls her eyes and talks about the parents and how she has to use ear plugs. You work at sharkeys. It's a kids place. - she starts blow drying. Again never got a blow dry. She's about 1/3 of the way thru and sees something and claims it's lice and immediately stops. She tries to sell me everything lice related in the store. - receptionist is ringing me up, gets a phone call and I have to wait another 10 min before we get to finish me paying. In the mean time, my 5 yo is complaining she has to go potty, but amy is standing a comfortable 10' away from us and I'd rather just the heck out of the there. - no balloon either - I also have a frequent visitor card that was not stamped. Once I reach a manager or Corp, I'm asking for a refund and never come here again. Going to cartoon cuts where they aren't crap to customers. read more

We made an appointment and showed up a bit early, but had to wait over 15 minutes. 2 of the hair dressers were getting snippy with each other then started quietly arguing in front of everyone. The haircuts were mediocre and overpriced. The cars that the kids can sit in were adorable though and my daughter loved the lollipop and balloon after. It was really annoying when one of the hair dressers who realized that I saw her arguing started being overly nice to me to overcompensate for what happened while we were waiting. She was able to interact with him, make him feel comfortable and then spent time to get him a full and complete haircut - something we have not been able to do in a year. Absolutely LOVED THIS place! It's focus is on making children comfortable and happy. My two kids had a great experience, Ages 5 and 7. Instead of chairs, they have cars and jeeps to sit in! Both stylists who did their trims made a connection with our kids, talked to them nicely, and gave them what they wanted for haircuts. We asked to take more off the top from my son, and she gladly did without hesitation. The stylist that took care of him made sure the hair wasn't going in his face and was very gentle, and my son has never felt or acted better for a haircut. I'll definitely take him back to this place and I'm so glad I don't have to struggle at home to trim his hair anymore. Lol. They also have toys at the front to keep them occupied during checkout. ADDITIONALLY, the girls get a the choice to do a "manicure" have their nails painted. Such a cute idea! They rolled out the red carpet for my son, who was terrified to get his hair cut. He cried the entire time (covid baby), but Amy and the owner were so great. His hair looks awesome and they were very accommodating. On top of everything, the fantastic service, freebies (balloons, lolipops, a certificate for his first haircut (so cute), a baggie for a lock of hair, commemorative photo and toys to play with during the cut), kid friendly environment with awesome car themed chairs, the actual haircut was only $26! My son really hated haircuts ... he especially hated when hair got on his neck. I saw a couple positive posts about Sharkeys so decided to give it a shot since he's super into police cars right now. We took him to cartoon cuts twice and the haircut was so so bad so we would just take him to regular haircut places after but none were any better. ..He LOVED Sharkeys and Ethiopia gave him a haircut that mom and dad really liked. Brought my almost 3 yr old here for a cut, we've been here a handful of times already. We were previously going to Fair Oaks Malls Cartoon Cuts. But Sharkys was closer for us. We went in for a haircut and my son usually doesn't move much OR misbehave terribly with cuts thankfully! We walked out with something completely different from what I asked for, and on top of that she did a TERRIBLE cut. Uneven lengths all over. When it grew out it looked horrible! We brought him back one more time (last and final chance with this place) & she was able to fix "some" but told us we would have to come back 2-3 more times for it to be fixed 100%. When we walked in and I told them my last experience, that even they realized how horrible the cut was from how it grew out. Was told the main manager or owner would reach out, got a text that I can take 25% off the next haircut... LOL! Mind you we have to cut his hair 2-3 more times in order for all the uneven hair to be fixed. And they want to offer a 25% off?? Will be taking my business elsewhere for sure. My 3 year old has been coming here for over a year. A few random appts with different stylists in the beginning but we have grown fond of Amy! Amy is great! Have watched her cutting other small children's hair while waiting and like my own (then) 2 yro, they wiggle and move constantly! She is patient and knows how to deal with them. She gets their attention (even if it's just for a little bit) long enough to do what she needs to. My 5 yro who refused to get a hair cut til recent, would only let Ms. Amy cut it. We love Ms. Amy! The place is very kid friendly. With cars for chairs for the kids with games and TVs to keep their attention. Great place! Friendly staff! Excellent service! A few dollars more expensive than some other less kid friendly places, but IMO it is worth every penny. So satisfied we just renewed our membership! Everyone leaves happy! read more

$35.00 for a toddler girl's haircut. It wasn't bad, but definitely not worth it for us. Hair wasn't even washed or styled afterwards. It was a super mediocre cut for the price and didn't look like my reference picture. It wasn't bad enough to upset my daughter by telling the stylist it didn't look good in-front of her...but I'm definitely not satisfied. I took my older daughter to Hair Cuttery afterwards and had a much better experience...and it only cost us $19.00 (includes wash as well). read more

We had such a great experience at Sharkey's, Centreville! The owner, Carnell, was very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating while the salon was clean and had a great atmosphere for children. The stylist, Miss Amy, was excellent and wonderful with kids. It was our daughter's first time getting a haircut and they had a special package (certificate, photo). Centreville, VA location - Overall it was a WAY better haircut "experience" for our boys than going to our normal barber! Ambience - 5 stars, Sitting and playing in toy cars (most of them work) and TVs with kid shows were great distractions for our boys, then they got a lollipop and balloon at the end. Haircut - 3 stars, If your boy(s) ever had a barber cut previously, lower your expectations for a clean, even cut and fade. It's fine for a boy's 1st kid haircut or basic hair trim, but they don't have the same barber clippers to make close skin fade so for me that was a bit disappointing. The haircut appeared to look ok at the salon, but when we got home the boys' fades looked uneven and we could see visual lines on their hair which was not evenly blended or tapered. They may have other stylists that specializes in fades but I assumed a fade was fairly standard. Stylists - 4.5 stars, Amy and Mary were like kid whispers with a great demeanor and very nice people. Cost - 4 stars, For 29/cut, it's worth a calm, enjoyable experience versus a total meltdown or freak out Online Booking - 5 stars, User-friendly process for booking appts. Notifications - 5 stars, confirmations and reminders are sent to your email and text messages Appointment - 3.5 stars, It's understandable they are running a business with customers and appointments, but we felt a bit rushed when the front desk lady would scream out to the stylist that your next appointment person is here. It's a bit disruptive and tends to rush stylist while trying to focus on finishing your kid's cut. We hope to return next time but may look into which stylist(s) specializes in fades. I was super excited to come here after seeing how good the reviews were for this location. When booking online you don't have the option to take off a wash and blow dry for boys. Amy didn't really listen to what we wanted done with their hair. We couldn't tell at first how bad it was since she gelled their hair to the side. 2 boys haircut cost us $82. Their hair didn't get washed or dried. We ended up taking our oldest to another shop to get it fixed (I didn't get a picture of his) and the only way to fix his was buzzed short. My 1 year old.. there is no fixing and I don't want it buzzed! It's terrible! Will not be going back read more

I never thought I would be excited to get my haircut in a kids barber shop. They offered me $225 for the year and unlimited haircuts. I was driving 40 min to get my haircut before from my long standing barber who I only trusted with my hair. They told me to try them out first and I did and been going every sense. The kids have a good time as well as they can play video games while they get their haircut or watch cocomelon (or fav show to calm them down). Very awesome experience. We had a great visit to Sharkey's and the haircut that Mary D provided was exactly what we wanted. This was my 2 and a half year old's first trip to a barber/stylist and Mary was great. Patient and gentle. We talked about what type of cut I wanted for my boy and she got right to it. She worked safely and efficiently and didn't prolong the visit unnecessarily. She was very skilled and great with such a young subject. The good: they have relevant video games for kids. My son is 6 and enjoyed playing Minecraft while getting his haircut, which he usually dreads doing every month. That's about it for the good. The bad: my first experience with my 2 year old daughter in January 2023, they cut her bangs way to short! Our second experience was with my 6 year old son: I told them I wanted a 0 on the bottom and 2 on the top with a mid fade, even showed her where I wanted the fade. Lady, I think Mary, ended up doing more of an army cut. She never faded gradually, it was just from a 0 to a 3. And I know it was a three because when we got home, my husband had to run the #2 guard to fix all the hair that was sticking out from not being cut, and a bunch of hair was cut, meaning she used a #3 and not a #2 guard. You could even see the grooves/lines from her guard. It was terrible. She kept telling me it looks good and I just told her, to you I'm sure it does but that's not what I asked for. Both experiences, two different stylist did whatever they wanted. Very very disappointed and was looking forward to becoming a member, but I'm not taking my kids here ever again! Be careful and be diligent in letting them know exactly what you want if you decide to go. read more

I took my 5 year old daughter in Jan 2024 to get her haircut. Her hair was cut so uneven. The lady kept walking away to help someone else. After she was finished. i told the front desk person that i wasn't happy and her hair needed to be fixed. I had to wait for Amy to finish her clients before she could help. Amy did a great job fixing it. She could only do so much without making it short. I informed the manager/owner by email and he apologized and gave us our next cut free. I was debating whether to go back or not.. so I decided to take her August 18, 2024 back for her free haircut and now I'm dealing with lice. My daughter was a stay at home never went anywhere. None of my children have ever had it. I am 100% positive that my daughter got lice from Sharkys. I will not return there ever again. I do not recommend them. Their staff can't seem to stick with one client they're all over the place. If you do decide to go to Sharkeys, I do recommend Amy only. read more

If I could leave 0 stars they would be getting 0. The stylist butcher my sons hair. They did my 1 year Olds first hair cut and stated because they spent a good amount of time with his haircut that they did not have to issue a refund for it. The owner Parnell Coleman stated that to me. He also stated that he did not believe the stylist (Amy) was the one who cut my sons hair like that because thats not how "she cuts hair" even though she argued with me the whole time she was cutting my sons hair. She also cut my 6 year Olds hair who I had to take to another place to basically shave his head because of how badly she cut his hair. I asked for a refund since I was relocated for work but he is now refusing to refund me the full amount. Even though his stylist never washed my boys hair, all she did was butcher their hair to the point I had to go somewhere else to get my oldest fixed. I would never RECOMMEND TAKING YOUR KIDS HERE. If you want your sons first hair cut im pretty sure a child with safety scissors could do a better cut. read more
