Super bummed with our experience here for my son's first haircut. The service and haircut quality were nothing like what others reviews sounded like. Maybe our stylist was having an off day or end of shift tiredness. Unfortunately there was minimal to no effort from the stylist to be friendly with my 2 year old or any of us family members that were there for such a special moment. We weren't greeted with smiles or excitement. Low energy levels, brief discussion of haircut, no conversing. We did not feel welcome. I wish we didn't come here for my babies first haircut. $45 haircut was terrible, uneven, awkward choppy bangs, too short in some areas & too long in others. We weren't offered a balloon afterward, my daughter took it upon herself to go grab one. Photo on the certificate cut off the top of his head so you could barely see the cut anyway. We went straight to Great Clips to get his hair fixed, way cheaper, more friendly, and a skilled stylist who fixed my son's haircut. read more

I scheduled a 9:00am appointment for Saturday, 12/27, for my daughter's bang trim and arrived 10 minutes early as instructed. The booking info was inconsistent: my text confirmed the service provider was Krystal, while my email said "First Available." ​When a stylist finally arrived, she asked for our information and then told us our stylist was "running late" and should arrive in five minutes. She then proceeded to help a customer who arrived after us. While waiting and looking around for about 15 minutes, we saw the photos on the front desk and realized the stylist we had spoken to was actually Krystal. ​It is incredibly unprofessional to confirm our info and then tell me their stylist is running late, implying someone else is coming, just to give a scheduled time slot to someone else. I'm disappointed in the dishonesty and lack of respect for our time. We will not be coming back. For other parents looking for a more professional and reliable experience, I highly recommend Buzzes 'n Beehives in San Marcos instead. read more

I was very disappointed with our experience. My son is only 3 years old and, like many young children, he gets nervous and cries during haircuts. Since this is a children's hair salon, I expected the stylist to have patience and experience working with young kids. Unfortunately, she showed very little patience and seemed frustrated by his behavior instead of helping him feel comfortable and safe. The haircut experience was stressful for both my son and me. I understand that working with children can be challenging, but kindness and patience are essential in a kids' salon. I hope the salon can improve its approach to helping young children who are anxious about haircuts. It is a very cute salon and they have little Xbox stations for boys and they even host the glam birthday parties for girls. their prices are very reasonable and they were able to take an appointment within an hour of me calling. We had the best experience for our 18-month-old's first haircut. The shop was clean, and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Our stylist Jessica was so fun and really included us in the experience. She asked us what look we wanted for our sons first haircut, allowed him to feel the clippers before starting and was very careful. Clearly, she's well trained and we felt confident she would do a nice job for our sons first haircut. We chose the "Lighting McQueen" car and our little man couldn't get enough of the buttons and steering wheel. We put on Ms. Rachel for good measure and everything was smooth sailing. We were sent home with a certificate to commemorate our sons first haircut, a lock of hair as a keepsake and a photo they print onsite. We opted out of the balloon but still, such a cute gesture. If I could give this place less than one star I would. I have brought my son here for a haircut a handful of times and have always walked away less than impressed by the customer service and professionalism of the staff but had continued coming back just due to the convenience of this location for us. On Saturday around 2:30 pm, my family came in thinking we had made an appointment for my son. Upon trying to check in I realized that I had accidentally booked us for the Carlsbad location and not the Oceanside, which I understood was totally my mistake. The reason for the negative review is that the lady working the front desk that afternoon was incredibly rude and unprofessional. She kept yelling at us that we did not have an appointment (I was now aware of this), and did not have an availability that day. ( Also ok, but again no reason to yell it at us.) There was no offer to attempt to rebook to another day or time and she spent most of this 2 minute interaction rolling her eyes at us as well. While this location is closer for our family it is not worth dealing with the staff and their attitudes. However, If you're still looking for a great kids cut, I highly recommend the Sharkey's Carlsbad location over this one as they are flexible, accommodating and beyond friendly! read more

So my little one got her first hair cut today... and boy am I glad we came here. First I made an appointment online this morning and wasn't hard at all took only 2 minutes. Next selected first haircut option, unaware of all the benefits it came with, but man it's worth it once I saw what it came with after everything was finished. So we got there early right when they reopened after lunch at 1, our appointment was at 1:30. My daughter just kinda ran around the waiting room looking at everyone, and playing with a ballon. Next Amy called us up when it was our turn and she was apple to get my girl to sit down in a shampoo chair, but my little one was scared to lean back so she didn't wash her hair. But she said it was okay and she wanted it to just be a good experience. Next Amy pulled her to the chair and was talking to her and kept her calm, but my little was being very shy and curious about what was happening. I thank goodness though Amy was careful not to pull her hair or spray her face with water because our little one fights hair brushing at home. Next she styled her hair and let her pick the clips that we're going in her hair. After that she got her over to the chair to paint her nails and let her pick a ring. After all that she gave her a ballon, took her picture and gave us the picture, lock of her hair, & first haircut certificate. Amy was amazing and awesome and I will definitely be taking my little girls back here to see Amy in the future. Highly recommend. I've been taking my two boys here for years and I will not be back after this last time. I believe Angela cut my oldest's hair and it's the worst haircut he's ever had. She was also impatient and unfriendly. Both stylists did rushed and sloppy jobs. My kids are 5 and 7 now they are good listeners and cooperative but the women we saw this week do not know how to cut hair. I gave two stars because we've had great experiences in the past. Not sure what happened to the old stylists or if this place is under new management. Do not recommend. read more

We've been frequent customers for over a couple years. They do often miss the mark on customer service and cut quality but my kids loved the environment. But today we Had an appointment time scheduled for my 3 kiddos and was told they could accommodate them all at the same time. I arrived around 5 minutes early and no one acknowledged we walked in. After 25 minutes went by, someone came out but again, didn't speak to us. Then 30 minutes later I was asked if I had an appointment. I said yes and she said they only have 1 person available and can only do 1 cut at a time. We left after that. I'm frustrated by the lack of service, acknowledgment and communication for our appointment time. Won't be back. read more

It was my first time bringing my daughter here and I'm very disappointed. Jessica was not helpful or patient. I can't believe people with 0 patience work at a KIDS salon. She kept going on and on about how bangs were not going to workout on MY kid because they were gonna part weirdly over time and be "ugly" like her own bangs. This is my kid, my decision. I wouldn't have minded if she just gave me her opinion ONCE as a stylist politely telling me it might not be the best choice, but NO she was very insistent about my daughters bangs turning out ugly just like her bangs. Mind you she literally said the words "ugly like my bangs." I am very dissatisfied with her service. She seemed very frustrated with my daughter and when we finished she couldn't even braid my daughters hair. She ran straight to the front girls to tell them we were finished. I love this place as it's so geared towards being kid-friendly. My daughter loves coming because when she gets a haircut, not only does she get a haircut, but she gets a braid and cute clip as well as getting her nails done. To finish up, she also gets to walk out with a balloon of her choice. While she is getting her hair cut she gets to sit in a car or a seat and watch a movie or cartoons while she gets it cut. i've had bad experiences with my sons hair cuts here. i've came 3 times and for his very first hair cut we were excited , we asked for just scissors and it was very cricked and short. the second time we came in we got a different stylist she did a good job we were happy with the results. it wasn't short and the fade was good. the 3rd time we came in i scheduled an apt for 2:00 with a different stylist. when i walked in she had barely sat down another client so she asked another worker if she can take me in ( it was the first lady we got ) so i decided okay ill give another chance , and well honestly i was in a rush and couldn't wait until the other lady whom i originally made the appointment with was done. so everything was going good until she asked how short i wanted the hair. i showed her how long and she still cut it way too short. i couldn't even do a comb over it looked weird. then she was blending in the sides and it came out cricked on one side. read more

I showed ours two pictures of what my son wanted (of his hair on him) and we certainly didn't leave with that. She asked after she shaved a chunk of hair off of it was a good length. Also, my son has a cowlick in the front that she didn't seem to notice until the very end. Tammie used to cut around it and we didn't need gel. Update to my original review...I called and spoke to Jordan the shop manager and although they were pretty busy for it being Mother's Day weekend she was able to squeeze my son the following day. He was seen by Taylor who did a FANTASTIC cut! Like I said we were willing to give Sharkey's a second chance because my son loves it and it did NOT disappoint. For my son's first haircut I have to say our stylist, Jaime, was absolutely amazing. She was gentle, patient, worked quickly, and just so great with my son. My son is 2.5 years old and was really nervous, but the toys they had in the salon, the balloons, the cars you can sit in made my son forget about his worries. I was so excited to get my kids their first haircut! Did I know they'd be scared? No. Did I know to bring snacks? YES! Did I think the TVs would be handy? Not really because we don't give our kiddos much screen time.. but! I have to say - not only does this place have all the appropriate distractions you can think of - but they have great people like Ms. Connie who make (what can be) a stressful situation, seem so easy.. She's a natural at what she does, and she's the reason we keep coming here. Ms Connie did a great job with my sons first haircut. and yep! He was scared. He was terrified, but Ms Connie was able to take a step back, let him calm down - and resume where she left off...in the end, he was a happy camper and all smiles - even before getting his balloon! We come here every few months and she does an amazing job cleaning him up! I loved her so much I already knew I wanted to take my youngest to see her. and again - she did another amazing job! My youngest is super calm and a pretty happy go lucky guy - but because other kids were stressed out getting their haircuts, he immediately fed off that energy and started crying/screaming. Ms. Connie asked if I wanted to put him in my lap - what a great idea! Sometimes when our kids are stressed we can't come up with good ideas on the fly - I'm so glad she recommended it because he was completely different after that! He was calm, able to cooperate (as much as a 1 year old could!), and came out looking like such a cutie with his little man haircut. Ms. Connie is a great listener. She listens to what kind of cut you want, is extremely patient, and constantly checks in you to see if you're happy/like what she's done. My first time at this location. Took my son at the poway location and he did great! We were visiting my mom in Oceanside so I made the appointment here instead. Really disappointed with my son's haircut. Uneven cut, some left over long pieces on the back and the front are not consistently cut. For $32 haircut for a toddler I expected more. My son cried midway through the haircut but once he got settled, he was fine. I wish Bea made more effort checking the haircut before we left. read more

This place has gone downhill which is super disappointing since I've been taking my kids regularly for years. They don't respect appointment times the past few times I've gone, we've ended up waiting over 30 minutes past our appointment time. They never seem apologetic at all. Last time it was a 45 min wait. We were sat down with one hairdresser and then she just walked away and went to work on another customer. No word to us at all and then they acted like it was a treat to do my daughter's nails because of it. I paid for a special package and they acted annoyed when I asked about it. All the employees seem annoyed in general to be there. It's such an unpleasant experience and they clearly keep double booking and overbooking. It's total chaos in there. read more
