very disappointed yesterday, I went in for a wash and haircut. I was quoted at the reception desk $50, so the receptionist assigned me to FiFi, I showed her a picture of what type of layers I wanted. I got my wash and cut so we proceeded to the counter to pay and FiFi asked me what I was quoted and I told her the receptionist quoted $50, she immediately became rude and said that's too low and was shaking her head. I handed her the tip and she rudely grabbed it out of my hand as I said thank you she didn't respond. There was an older grey haired woman who completely ruined my son's hair two days before Thanksgiving! She should not be cutting hair! We scheduled an appointment, were early& still waited 20+ minutes. I showed her a picture which she completely disregarded. When I told her it looked nothing like the picture she said "ok." Then cut almost all his hair off but left multiple patches with long hair on top due to her sloppy rushed job. When I pointed it out she said "I can fix it" then used the wrong (shorter) one on the top. She even used the wrong guard and got the front right messed up. Anne did a great service however the hair color I asked didn't turn out the way I wanted because she confused the colors when I asked her I wanted purple but she ended up mixing blue and red together, and it turned out to be blue but not the way I asked. she didn't give me purple when I asked specifically I wanted purple. read more

Love this place go there every two weeks, Ann does such a great job knows how to take care of people.

I returned to HairPort to have Ann trim my hair plus I also had my husband come along for his hair cut and beard trim. Discussing my naturally curl hair behaviors and problems, many hairdressers do not understand layering or cuts that work best. I find many stylists just lock into one style fits all for everybody no matter what type of hair they have or what age they are. The flat ironed look doesn't work for me or bangs in the face or flat sideswept drives me insane when they do it anyway after I have just asked for away from my face with light fringe of bangs in front. I wish the current style fit my hair and face but they do not. I have learned to appreciate curl when it is cut right. Cutting my hair wet caused me to end up with shorter and shorter hair every time I would go to salon. I purposely waited until my hair grew out a lot, which was driving me crazy, but I just didn't want my hair so short. Ann helped me immensely the first time I went. The cut she gave me lasted almost 3 months ( I really needed a trim by then). She helped correct much of the bad haircut I had just gotten from another salon. After Ann's initial work on my hair, I wanted to give the crown area a chance to grow out which the previous salon butchered and chopped with very uneven layers. Ann listened without seeming annoyed or agitated and offered to cut my hair dry. I had blown my hair out which clearly shows what needs attention and what doesn't without cutting my hair too short. Many hairdressers nod their head but do exactly the reverse of what I have asked. Ann did a beautiful job of shaping my hair which makes styling after I leave salon simple and fuss free. I was so happy when I left the salon because my hair laid right without having to use all that product. Ann didn't use any hair products in the blow out and it still looked good. Next...............My husband. He wears a beard and not so fussy about his hair cut but I am. Barbers always shave up the back of his head and butcher his beard. Ann did a wonderful job of cleaning his look up. She trimmed his hair and beard. We both were very happy with her care of him. Ann is sweet, congenial, easy to be at ease with. I hate to leave not-great reviews but I had such high hopes with the reviews on this place. I was in town visiting family and my hair had grown out enough that I couldn't stand it. So I did a search and found this place which seemed promising. I came in late afternoon, there were only two ladies working and one other customer there. Waited for a while before anyone even acknowledged my existence, maybe 15 minutes? The lady with her kid went first for a haircut and I waited around for another half an hour. No more acknowledgement from either of the ladies until after another older lady walked in, who was helped before me. That was when I opened my mouth to say I had been there first and was told she had an appointment. Okay, I'll wait some more (although I would have liked SOME help or something before so I knew for sure they were planning on helping me at some point.) Finally it was my turn. And the lady who helped me out was okay. She noticed my hair was dry and recommended deep conditioning, which I took her up on. She was overall very nice but I have a couple complaints. One is that when she brought me to the back for a shampoo, the bathroom (at least I assume it was the bathroom) SMELLED SOMETHING AWFUL. Like cleanser and poop (sorry). Second is the haircut she gave me, which is when I said I wanted a trim, it took a little while to understand I wanted side bangs. Which is fine, but she asked how long I wanted my bangs, I said below my eyebrows. It seemed fine at first but when it dried... my bangs were awkwardly short. Definitely above my eyebrows and not what I wanted. She also didn't properly dry my hair after (it was late at this point) so I walked out with damp hair. Definitely NOT what I was hoping for. But on the bright side, she did add some essence in my hair to make it soft and the deep conditioning helped my previously dry, straw-like hair feel soft and hair again! So to sum up, I'd probably go for a deep condition if I'm in town buuuuut not sure I'd go back for a haircut. It did the job, I guess, but I'd rather wait to go to my own stylist if possible. read more

The best, the very best! Haircut I have had in many a year! I had gone two weeks before to Supercuts, much against my better judgement, and the dude gave me the worst haircut I have ever had! So I stewed for a couple of weeks. I didn't want to go back to the guy because he would make it worse. So... I decided to give The Hair Port a try. I've been seeing the salon when I shopped in the area. I made a same day appointment. My stylist Kathy is the owner and she was WONDERFUL!!! WOW! I showed her a pic of what I wanted and she looked twice and went to work and it was a wonder! Snipping, combing, blow drying, etc... and waa laa! Perfect cut! Exactly what I was looking for! I am now a lifetime customer of The Hair Port and Kathy is now my lifetime stylist! Why didn't I go here in the first place!? 5 stars and it doesn't get any better. I didn't hate this place, but I didn't love it either. Average is a good rating for me. They're were plenty of positive aspects, don't get me wrong. Firstly, when I called to ask about an appointment, the woman on the phone said they do walk-ins, and I was able to make an appointment for the same day. The inside of the store was very clean and tidy, which is always a good thing. I didn't catch the hair cutter's name, but she was a friendly older Asian lady. We didn't talk much through most of the haircut, which was a little awkward, but when we did talk she was very nice. The cut I got was based on a previous haircut I'd gotten at a different salon. When I showed her my usual reference photo (taken from a magazine) and the photo of myself taken after I'd gotten my last haircut, she said from now on to show cutters the picture of myself, not the magazine. I don't think she realized the cut was based off the magazine and totally do-able. The cut she gave me was okay--just a trim of the overall length, layers, and my bangs cut back. It didn't really look like my photo, but it will get the job done, I suppose. I just wasn't blown away. Also, she told me over the phone that women's cuts start at $20, but she charged me $30 even though I only got a cut that lasted around half an hour. I didn't even ask for a wash, blow dry, or styling because I wanted to save money. So I really don't know why the extra $10 was tacked on. If I could, I'd give my experience here a 3.5, but nothing more than that. read more
