Well, 6 years later, and there is still a story. An engineer from Israel is working on a project in my plant. He said take me somewhere really good. Galveston Seafood, an hour wait. Beehive steak, an hour wait. Lytle Land & Cattle, hour wait. Sharon's BBQ was packed, but they got us in. All 3 of us got the large combo, ribs, brisket, and jalapeño sausage. A LOT of meat on this plate! I piled the sides high, especially the jalapeño corn. The homemade bread and cornbread, regular and jalapeño, is always a hit with everyone. It's all good, but my favorite is the ribs. Big and meaty, just like they should be! We all enjoyed our meal, especially since it went on his company credit card! VERY disappointing I've gone to Sharon's on Antilley numerous times & NEVER been disappointed. I was totally disappointed & embarrassed went took family to eat at this Sharon's on Friday evening. Tonight we ordered two stuffed chopped brisket potatoes, beans, and peach cobbler. Everything was made so well. The flavor was perfect. The price was very reasonable for what we ordered. We were in Abilene for a few days and were given a coupon book that included a "Buy one brisket sandwich, get one free" at Sharon's. We decided to give it a try since it had 4 1/2 stars. I must say that it was great! The other reviews didn't talk highly of the potato salad so we didn't get any. What we did get was the coleslaw and jalapeño corn. Both were awesome, as was the brisket sandwich, which was huge! I got the regular bbq sauce and my husband got the hot. Both sauces were really good. Okay folks, we're averaging here. From a party of 3 one of us felt an overall rating of 3 stars was appropriate based only on his meal, the other two of us felt 1 star was possibly generous. I'll break it down for y'all. We'll hit the high notes first. 2 meat plate: brisket & jalapeno sausage. Ordered by the least picky of us. He said he thought everything was good, nothing was great. The jalapeno sausage has a bit of bite without being overwhelming. Sr. Plate: ribs. Ordered by one of the pickiest. (Title of actual pickiest is debatable, but we both know good when we get it!) Ribs were very dry & lacked flavor. So dry it was almost like jerky, but without the taste. Sandwich: Chopped brisket & jalapeno sausage. I asked them to chop the sausage in with the brisket. What I got was slices of sausage on top of chopped brisket. Not quite what I wanted, but it was still pretty good. I added their regular BBQ sauce, pickles, & onions. I'd eat this & only this again for a quick lunch. The sides: in a word, bad. Potato salad is okay, but that's where the positivity ends. Beans had no flavor at all. Cornbread was so dry it was regretfully inedible. I ordered mac & cheese as the side with my sandwich. Big mistake. Big. Huge. They said they'd bring it... ... ... finally it appeared. This is mediocre BBQ. We stopped in for lunch and I tried the brisket. It was not very flavorful and somewhat dry. I also just asked for water to drink and got charged .25 for water. Who in 2019 or ever charges for tap water? Take your money across town to The Shed. The bbq there is amazing and they not only don't charge for a water cup but you get free beer in line! We were just passing through texas on our way to arizona; we stopped at sharrons because it was right off the highway. It was quick and good and we got right back on the road within 30 minutes. I got the chopped brisket sandwich with green beans. It was very good and exactly what I paid for. My brother got the 2 meat combo plate and they were very skimp on the meat, not worth the money. Small mom and pops BBQ joint that supports the military. Great brisket and jalapeño cornbread! They didn't have pulled pork today (Sunday) which seemed weird. You choose your meat and then are allowed one pass through the sides line which you can load up as much as you like. Sides included green beans and potatoes, coleslaw, beans, mashed potatoes and cornbread. Friendly staff. For the price I expected more meat but what I did receive tasted great. This review is for the newly opened Sharon's South, next to the Southside Hospital. Sharon's South, is a free standing location, and has just been opened so I was prepared to cut them some slack but I don't need to. Sharon has been in the BBQ business for 35 or 40 years and she does not fail to please, and as this place has a menu there is something for all. I'm just glad its on the South side as the food is excellent and it's serve yourself sides with green beans, potato salad, slaw, a corn dish, and pinto beans cooked with the ham bone. I bought a loaf of bread because its that good, but the Jalapeno cornbread is not hot and really tasty. Do what I did; I got a Combo plate of ribs, brisket, and ham, and add a layer of pickles and onions and cover that with the regular BBQ sauce even though there are three types; regular, vinegary that's a little sweeter, and Jalapeno. Get your bread and cornbread, a cold beer from the bar, and you will leave full and happy. I wanted to check out the patio and there are super large TV's out there too so I watched the Cowboys preseason game surrounded by really beautiful hanging boxes full of blooming plants. It's a nice touch to outside dining with a water cooled fan system, so it will be a great place to hang out. read more
