Our lunch pates. Try the Jalapeno Corn! Potato salad was good and don't miss the peach cobbler!

We enjoyed a traditional lunch! I was a bit hesitant because of the low reviews but I have had a lot of BBQ and the food was great!

I ordered through Grubhub (as I was at work). And Id like to say it was a satisfying experience! The star of the show was definitely the portion of meat, they don't skimp the servings here. I ordered the brisket and it was tender juicy, and packed with flavor. The BBQ sauce they serve complements the meat perfectly; it had just the right balance of sweetness and tang. Now, onto the sides! I tried their potato salad for the first time and while I must admit I've always been a fan of the chunky variety, this non-chunky version was surprisingly decent. It had a creamy texture that was nice but I still prefer a bit more heft in my potato salad. The cole slaw had a crunchy, fresh and had a nice zesty kick that paired well with the BBQ brisket. Overall, Sharon's BBQ is a solid choice if you're craving some good barbecue. I'll definitely be back for more mouthwatering meat and to see how their other sides stack up!

    Ribs and Slice Brisket

Yesterday I ate a two meat plate of Ribs, Slice Brisket, Corn and Coleslaw. The ribs were extremely salty and the brisket was very fatty. It was a very disappointing experience, I would not say this place at all. The sides stole the show.

Sliced brisket with next to flavorless potato salad and hard crusty corn. No sliced bread like it used have.

Sharon's used to have an environment where you came in, they gave you your meat selection on a plate and you put your sides on the plate and you could feel the pride in the place. You could stir the sides and make sure you weren't getting the crusty/dried corn because the good corn was on the bottom. You could get the sides you wanted. If you wanted a little potato salad with a little corn on top and small helping of green beans, you could get it all on a plate. A paper plate can be purchased at Sam's Club for 7¢ each. Now, they ask you what you want and you get the crusty corn in one paper tray that costs 3¢ each and potato salad in another paper bowl, another 3¢ and they serve it with the meat on a piece of paper (costing 2¢ at Sam's) all on a tray that they wiped down earlier, not washed, just wiped down. They act if they're slopping pigs, not serving people. I know the backstory of how Sharon's started and it's sad to see that it went from being a point of pride for Sharon (vs. her ex husband Joe's place) to where they're treating customers like wild animals they're slopping food for. If they were to buy the paper trays and paper from Sam's (and I know they don't) as if they were slopping pigs, they're spending more than the 7¢ for a plate they would serve people on. I hope Sharon realizes how low her place has fallen to. I think it all started going downhill after they stopped serving the delicious sliced bread they used to make. The only reason I came to Sharon's today was because the Shed was closed.

Sausage, chicken, and sides. My husband and I got a 2 meat plate. My daughter got 5 rib plate. With 3 drinks, 69.25 pricey

The potato salad is whipped potatoes kinda sweet. The jalapeno cheese sausage is great. The bbq sauce is really sweet.

BBQ. Best BBQ in the area. My go-to place for BBQ. Desserts are always good, too.

This is my go-to BBQ in the area. The food is always good. I love the jalapeño cornbread. The service is always nice. It's a BBQ place. So it's perfect for all things BBQ. Recommend

The cashier filling sides instead of the customer filling their own as in the past.

Sharon's has been a staple restaurant where we have always taken clients, work groups and family. We have always recommended them for their great food and hospitality, speed of service and fare pricing. However things have recently changed. We recently took a group there for lunch on Sunday. We were confused by quite a few differences which made for more of an inconvenience as well as making the choice to use them for events less attractive. The following are the most noticeable issues we recognized. * Significantly slower service * Increased Pricing * No longer supplying plates or silverware * No longer allowing self serve for sides (I will explain why this is causing slower service) * Upset customers due to all of the above. (This made for a less pleasant experience) Explanations: * With the removal of self serve sides, the cashier now takes the orders, leaves and scoops sides into small trays (boats), places them on the shelf behind and comes back to ask the next person what sides they want. (For a side refill it is now $2.00). This seems to have tripled the time it takes to place an order at the register. Remember, this is one person doing the work. There are three people behind the line. One is cutting the meats and the other two are standing around waiting for something to happen. This seems like a huge waste of resources. * Instead of plates or bowls, the food is now just slapped down onto a piece of butcher paper on a plastic tray. Plastic forks are now the go to. This is really not a huge issue but seems like a step down in class. * Pricing has always been a little higher than many places but it has become almost out of reach for many who have frequented Sharon's for years. In conclusion; with all of the changes listed above, it seems like Sharon's may be in trouble and is trying to stay afloat. This may or may not be the case but we have determined that we will most likely take our personal and business events somewhere else, mostly to uphold the standard that we want our guests to enjoy.

Decent barbecue! Always clean inside with friendly staff! It's set up in the form of a buffet, so if that's not your gig then I'd skip out on it. I will say that if you order take out you'll be charged with a take out fee (not including any kind of delivery service.) We ordered some poppers and the fees were more than the cost of the food.

Sharon, this review is for you. Just wanted to let you know how your employees treat YOUR customers when you are not there. The young lady at the register refused to make eye contact with us or speak one single word. When we walked up the man at the cutting table greeted us asked what we wanted. When when the young lady got to register we said hello not a word. She processed our order still not a word did not look up. I asked how much did not look or speak. After a while just put my card in the machine. I had to ask for receipt, not a word. She handed me receipt I said thank you and she continued to ignore me. I said thank you two more times loud enough for man at cutting table to here me.No response. Made us feel very in welcome. You hav worked hard for years to build your business. Just thought you should know what goes on.

Got to try the delicious jalapeño corn bread with a mini combo of brisket and sausage. The sausage paired with the Mac and cheese really worked for me. It had a roomy vibe and a really solid bar in the back.

I am so glad that I tried this place today!! I am truly shocked this place doesn't have higher reviews on Yelp because who doesn't love a buffet of sides to go with your bbq??? I mean truly. Everything here was good. There is something for everyone. My only suggestion would be to add some salt to the green beans and potatoes. They were a little lacking in flavor. But aside from that I highly recommend this place.

Today, I ordered 4 lbs of meet at 1:33 and it took 20 minutes with a line of cars behind me. I had already waited in line for maybe 10 minutes. It was 11:33 and they open at 11:00 and they were already out of chicken. So, they ask if i want pickle and onions and I said yes. Finally got home and opened the bag and no pickle and onions. I opened the chopped beef and these globs of fat were laying right on top. Don't have high hopes for the rest of it. Their "pulled pork" is actually shredded, heavily sauced with something and has a real wanky taste. It will hit the trash.

I fully expected that one or two of the meats would be good and the rest just passable. I was wrong. Every single bite was spectacular. We also had the brisket and queso chips and pig candy - both were really tasty; the chips especially were very fresh and sprinkled with just a touch of bbq rub. We arrived a few minutes before they opened on a warm Saturday and the wait was about 75 minutes or so. Definitely worth standing in line for. There's ample outdoor (but covered) seating and plenty of good music playing, plus cornhole games if you're feeling competitive. Jays will be our go-to for BBQ the next time we're in Abilene! PS - if it's still available when you go, be sure to try the cherry chipotle sauce - it's amazing!

Outside of the big heavy hitters in major cities, Texas Monthly's Top 50 BBQ list often leads you…read moreto smaller joints you'd never think to visit otherwise. The list brought me three and a half hours north of Austin to try Jay's BBQ Shack in Abilene. My girlfriend and I got in line around 10:40 am, and it was already turning the corner. According to my Yelp research, if you're not early, you're late. The restaurant is in a super cool location. It's a red brick house where all the operations take place, with a huge side patio for seating. There are a lot of cute photo ops and things to look at while you move through the line, like it's a Disneyland queue. My favorite is the alien with a Guns N' Roses shirt, a Michelob, and Doritos shorts. Their menu is expansive. From your traditional meats to your plates, there are also sandwiches, tacos, queso, Frito pie, and more. The line moves at a slow but steady pace. Orders are taken at one window, and pickups happen at the next. We had a pretty sizable meal for the two of us, and it was just around $55, which felt pretty affordable for BBQ. We ordered the Texas Trinity (as I normally do regardless of it being an option or not). I didn't read the menu closely enough to realize it also came with two sides. The one-third pound brisket, sausage link, two ribs, and two sides total $31, which feels like a steal. I will now talk about everything I tried: Brisket: When you try so many all-star places, it feels harsh to call a place's brisket "alright" when compared to a Rudy's, which this is far better than. Compared to other Top 50 joints, though, their brisket was alright. Their fatty cut was good, but their lean was not impressive and a little dry. I hate to say that the lean needed some sauce to save it. Pork Ribs: The best thing on their menu. Their pork ribs are massive and very well-flavored on the bark. I would come back just for the ribs. Each pork rib is $3, and you can add as many additional ribs to your order, which is an awesome feature this joint has. New Mexico Christmas Sausage: It was fun to have "Christmas" sausage, but I wish it actually had the kick it should have had from the green and red peppers and pepper jack cheese. It was good nonetheless, but not impressive. Bread: Their bread is Texas toast, which I have yet to see at another BBQ joint and thought was super cool. Imagine a Raising Cane's toast slice. I do wish we got more for the amount of BBQ we ordered, and I don't know if that's something we were supposed to ask for, but one slice is not enough. Hatch Chile Mac and Cheese: It tastes like a classic cafeteria macaroni and cheese, which feels nostalgic. The panko breadcrumbs don't do much, and the spice is minimal, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Jalapeño Corn: There was really no kick to this corn either. It tasted like canned corn. There'snothing else to say. Pork Candy: The pork candy, or their "Kansas City-Style Bacon Burnt Ends," was really nice. The saucy flavor was impressive. Having had a similar style of bacon before, I enjoyed the fattiness, but the better pieces were definitely the harder and less fatty cuts. Banana Pudding: A very well-done dessert and a great treat to wrap up the meal. There were plenty of BBQ sauces to choose from. Their traditional and mustard BBQ sauces were both good, but their spicy BBQ sauce was honestly terrible. It had this back-of-the-throat kick that didn't taste good. It felt like a hot sauce that didn't care about balancing heat and flavor, focusing instead on seeing what the heat could do. It wasn't significantly spicy, it truly just tasted bad. I think it's cool for Abilene to have a quality BBQ joint like Jay's, and I know it becomes a challenge to compare so many Top 50 spots. I think Jay's is good but not great. I've had better non-Top 50 joints but also worse Top 50 joints. If you're ever in the area, it's worth checking out, but not worth the trip to Abilene alone. On second thought, the alien guy who sits at the bench might be worth the trip alone other than that my girlfriend considered leaving me for him due to his raw beauty. What a jerk. RIYL: Hot Aliens
