Sharpeners closed and their customer records were turned over to another company out of California called Knife Aid. No one ever notified me of this change. One day my credit card was charged by Knife Aid, (for $20 more than Sharpenters ever charged!) without any explanation as to who they were, how they got my name, address, email address or credit card number. I'd never heard of these people let alone requested service from them. It took them 3 weeks to reply to my many emails, but by that time, I'd already reported them to the Bank to dispute the charge. read more

This is my second year sending them my knives (10 of them) and getting them returned to me via mail. First, it's an easy process. Select your service and how many knives you need done. They process your payment and send you prepaid envelopes to safely mail them to their location. Within 8 days, all 10 knives were back home. The whole process was impressive, you get an envelope in the mail that is set up to be sent back and forth with your knives in a very secure and efficient way. I got a FB ad adverting their knive sharping services and did my reseach and it appeared to be a legit company and a service I can def use. Process was easy! THey mail you envelopes and directions and mail off your knives to be sent to them for sharping and then they mail them back! It took a week and my seven knives are good as new. read more

My knives are gone! Sharpenters provided an envelope that ruptured during transit and all of the knives were lost. The Company freely admits that this problem has occurred in the past yet they continue to claim that the provided envelope is sufficient to transport knives. Worse, Sharpenters did not offer to replace the knives and was quick to blame the USPS and directed me to some fine print on their website. Terrible customer service. Amazing (full stop)! I sent them 7 knives that had seriously been neglected for years. We're talking, some of the blades were chipped, but all or dull and dangerous to use. Trust me, I know... The last cut on my hand from trying to slice a tomato convinced me that something needed to be done! anyway, I sent them seven knives. They stayed in touch with me throughout the whole process by sending me emails as the knives moved along and then when they returned, about a week later, they were literally sharper than I think they've ever been. So, Sharpenters admitted they did not provide any sharpening service to me after I refused to agree to subscription service but took my $67 anyway. Businesses like Sharpenters use a subscription service when they have zero confidence the customers will return on their own once the customer has a chance to evaluate the price vs. value vs lead time exposure. Yes, they sharpen knives, yes they are sharp. But that's where value in the service ends. They knows this hence the need for a non refundable subscription service. Use them at your own peril the customer service experience will not be a positive one. read more

I picked this service for convenience that they offered. My local guy was retiring and I didn't want to drive to another location. A bit pricey but seemed to be easy. That's what I thought. So the first time things were not bad outside of the extremely long turnaround. Not at all what was promised. I had to contact them to inquire about my knives and they blamed the post office for the delay. But at least after a while I had my knifes back. Fast forward to next sharpening service... I wait and wait for my knives, finally I get a envelope back and ..... it's completely empty. And taped over funny. I refused excepting it so it would be sent back to Sharpenters just as I received it. It's been 2 months. They sent me emails blaming the post service again. Telling me that they presented my case to postal insurance department ( no they didn't, they admitted later that they had problems with stuff and nobody could do it?!?) then they told me that the amount of insurance is only $100 (which would not cover even the half of price). All the while insisting that the only way for knives to disappear was at the post office! Like it's unknown for employees to steal stuff unless they are postal employees. When I brought it up they alluded that my knives are not even really worth stealing since they sharpen knives that cost more than $500 a knive! Wow! Way to make customers feel little and cheap with their $250 sets of knives. Apparently only post workers are so desperate that they would be willing stoop down to it. Anyway, what a disaster! If I could give them a negative star I would. I have had a terrible experience from the start and I was told I put the address in wrong. Their system doesnt allow you to send these as gifts basically. I have ordered 3 packages since May and 2 of my sets went to the wrong address. Luckily one was local and I fixed it... But one set of knives I sent from Bonita, FL was delivered to someone I sent a gift to (in Massachusetts) a few months back and they thought this was a second part of their gift! SHARPENTERS doesn't care to rectify the situation... And continues to blame me. Even though the address affiliated with my order is a Florida address not Massachusetts. Their system doesn't work that way, but they aren't accepting any responsibility. I asked about their 100% customer satisfaction guarantee on their website and they said, it's doesn't cover this situation. So, it's actually a LIMITED satisfaction guarantee. All I asked was for a refund, because now I have to guy buy 5 new knives for my friend this gift was for. I asked multiple times for a phone number to call or for someone to call me. They refused and will only email. That's nice though, bc my CC company has proof for their refund. read more

Response and customer services needs lots of work. Payment withdrawn on March 19th. Received a notification on March 21st that USPS "Operational Issues" were being experienced and asked to respond if UPS would be a viable option. Responded within 56 minutes of receipt of email to send the shipping envelopes. Today is March 26th and I still have yet to receive the shipping envelopes. I work in customer service. I am ok with being told there are issues, as long as I am communicated with. To exacerbate the issues, you have not phone number posted or listed in order to gain status. This is a terrible way to conduct business and shows little care towards physically hearing your customers. I have a cook-off to compete in on April 26th and 27th. I sincerely hope that your workmanship and turn around times are better than your communications. read more

well, my knives were scary dull. They needed immediate attention. I checked out sharpenters and decided to give them a try. I have never sent out my knives to be sharpened before. Clearly. Email confirmations, shipping of the knives back-and-forth was very simple. They have this process down! I encountered a bit of a snafu with them ( my fault not theirs) and to my surprise they responded immediately and made it right. That was unexpected and I wholeheartedly appreciate that this company understands what customer service actually is. just make sure when you tell them how many knives you're sending that you actually send that many knives.
