Honesty is the best policy ; brought in my parents Toyota Camry ; after taking it to dealership . Very pleased with the outcome at Sharp's. Background :Received a warranty enhancement notice from Toyota advising owners of concerns of excessive engine oil consumption directing owners to take in vehicle for a test ... I took the Camry to Toyota of Oxnard for the test and they advised they were unable to extend the manufacture recommended test a covered service due to what Toyota discovered during their inspection , an oil leak ;it requires repairs before they could extend the test . Toyota Dealership repair estimate :$1061.58 I hear second opinion , price comparison a must. I kept hearing about Sharp's from word of mouth .. Stopped by Sharp's to obtain a Second Opinion . a stress free experience ; Danny @Sharp's inspected the vehicle , under the car , over the engine and their estimate : Zero /No service was necessary , the oil pan leak was oil from a recent oil change. I have found an honest mechanic , a shop that gained my business , they also offered the manufacturer test for free. Now , I am back with my vehicle , knowing they are transparent , and they have a long list of training , their credentials in the automotive mechanical repair field: ASE & Honda & Lexus Certification , and they are a Napa Car Center, wow! vast experience !!' Good mechanics have two important assets... knowledge and honesty. As for Mr. Jim Sharp, check AND check. If he puts in a part and it doesn't do the trick, he takes it out. No charge for work that doesn't solve the problem. 99% of the time he finds the issue and fixes it without a hitch. On the few occasions where I've had a really tough problem to diagnose, Jim's upfront, honest style of business has been the difference between a massive headache and that wonderful feeling of relief you get knowing everything is being taken care of. Jim's been fixing cars a long time and I believe he's winding down a bit now, working 4 days a week instead of 5. He also doesn't work on ALL cars or delve into all car troubles but he will make a good referral. Overall I wouldn't take my car any other place and I would recommend him to anyone. read more

I consider myself an informed car guy. I do the large majority of the work on my car and my roommates cars without issue. Sometimes, I just don't have time, or the patients to do some things myself, so I've been going to these guys. First impressions are big with me when it comes to a shop, and I was impressed. There wasn't piles of garbage and grease stained floors and walls, which tells me they actually care about their shop, and in turn would care about my car(s). I've gone back several times with no issues with their work. Great guys too, and very easy to chat with. I've had the opportunity to check over some of their work, while doing later repairs, and it's always better than expected! Thank you guys! Seriously, I very rarely give 5 starts but these guys deserve it. Had my car towed there on Monday (08/15/16). Ended up being the starter. Paid a great price to have it replaced. The best part was the inspection. Yes, most everyone does a cursory inspection - top off fluids, check belts, tires, etc. but these guys went above and beyond. Because they had to check my battery, they took the time to also clean it and cover it with the goo to prevent the acid from building back up again. Toyota wanted to charge me around $80 to do so. They also saw that I had some oil on the engine so they checked that. Found out it was from a previous leak / oil change. The thing is, I have been smelling an exhaust smell for several months now - heck, maybe a year. So when I took it to Toyota for my regular oil change, they said the smell was coming from a bad engine gasket (head?). I argued with them that the smell was of exhaust, not oil burning. They insisted though that it was due to the oil leak. We went back and forth a few times but I opted not to get the work done. Well, Sharp's let me know that it was actually a weld break in my new(er) catalytic converter and that it might still bee under warranty so I should take it back to the muffler shop. Talk about honest. And Toyota wanted to charge me over $900 for the non-existent oil leak. Geez. Anyway, they are a good value, honest, and go out of their way make sure you and your are happy. I thought the starter had gone on my 2009 Honda when I tried to start the car yesterday morning so I assumed I would need a tow to the garage a couple of miles away. Called for a tow and Julio from Oxnard Tow Services came right over. He was at my house within like 20 minutes. He's a friendly and smart guy. My dog Ginger liked him, that says a lot, and he petted her too. Julio tried the car and said he thought it was just a dead battery. He brought his jump start doohickey gizmo (you can tell my level of mechanical ability because of my tech terms like thingamajig and doohickey) to the car and tested the battery. It was deader than a door nail. He jump started it so I didn't even need a tow! I drove it right over to my mechanics, the great guys of Danny and Oscar at Sharp's Auto Service who confirmed it was just a dead battery that needed replacing. Danny and Oscar are dog friendly too! Ginger loved them both. No starter needed so I saved a bunch of money that I thought it would cost me and between Julio, Danny and Oscar I was back on track for the rest of my day in about 90 minutes total. These are the two companies to use in Oxnard and Port Hueneme if you have car problems!!!! Ginger says they are both Dog Approved and not to use anyone else! 5 Stars for everyone! My wife and I moved 40 minutes away and this place is still the only place I'll bring our cars to. Honest mechanics are uncommon but mechanics THIS honest are unheard of. As a guy who grew up around cars and who's Dad is a mechanic I'm far from ignorant when it comes to cars but living in an apartment leaves me limited room and tools to do much. I've never mentioned that I'm knowledgeable and three times I've brought a car into Sharps and they've had perfect opportunity to make a few hundred dollars and make themselves out to be good guys saving me some money. Things I've seen happen over and over to other people and I just accept and the occasional price of doing business. On all occasions Sharps treated me honorably and TWICE even easily fixed my issue and then sent me on my way without a charge at all. I can not recommend them any higher. Honda of Pasadena tried scamming me telling me my engine was broken and would cost me $9000, thank god I took it for a second opinion and I'm so glad I chose Sharp's Auto Care.
