He's a talented, decisive professional who is creative and committed to honing his craft and to delivering exceptional service. His clients here in Hilo are so sad to see him go, but I for one will follow him to his next destination and will always try to book with him when I am fortunate enough to secure a spot in his appointment book. I have challenging hair that is the equivalent of three heads of thick ethnic hair. He has to WORK/sweat when he sees me, and yet he's happy to see me. This means a great deal to me as many stylists are not diverse or skilled enough to make my hair gorgeous, but he does. For those of you who are like me and care where your money goes and what businesses and professionals you support, I can also tell you that David is an absolutely wonderful and special being who wants the best for others. He's the only stylist who has ever worried that I tip too much. Tori is nothing but professional. I was a little early but she let me come in early since it was so hot outside. She sat me down to do a consultation for my color and cut and pricing and we got started right away. She also shared that she had safety procedures in place including CPR, a medical staff person (Carrie) and an eye wash. I have never been to a place that had this in mind. She also shared information about how I should care for my hair and how to determine when was a good time to determine when to come back since hair grows at various rates depending on various conditions. Tori did my cut and styling. Carrie did my color and I was really happy by how much care they took not to get color all over my skin. There were even these little plastic ear covers that went over my entire ears that I have never seen before! They even went back to make sure my ears, face and neck were clean. The color was very pleasant smelling, not chemically at all so there was no burn or stinging. Tori suggested that I also get my eyebrows done and I decided to do this, too. I haven't had that done since before COVID, so it was overdo. Tori and Carrie not only waxed and trimmed my eyebrows but did coloring to match my hair. I had a little scar which she was able to cover up nicely so my eyebrows actually matched and were so natural. I wish that I had found this salon sooner. I asked Jon (the stylist) to bring life into my shoulder-length hair, that was at this point, a blunt dull drag. He added some bleach-free highlights or "lifts" and blended all of my layers back in. There was a time in my life when I had luxurious Victoria's Secret-esque layers...and I have had so many janky cuts over the past few years that I pretty much said goodbye to that style. Jon gave me a heavy trim, and evened things back out. He is from this island, however he has done hair in California for over a decade and done a wide variety of work, including male cuts. I had to call 4 salons to find Hilo Style. I was getting no answer or voice messages and when I called Hilo Style, they actually answered the phone. They are located in the Kino'ole Plaza. There is no sign outside but if you park and go inside you will easily find them. A wonderful experience at a reasonable price.
