First of all I would definitely come back. I had a falafel sandwich with extra Falafel and crispy falafel. My sandwich was decent. Melanie T had kefta Kabob over salad, but she said it could have used more spices. I was also cold. Everyone we dealt with was a nice and patient with all our extra requests. They also had a ton of sauces to choose from and use at will which was nice. read more

I was here for the first time and I ordered chicken Kabab plate . They made a mistake in giving me my order . They gave someone's else food to me and I was just so distracted reading my work emails and I started eating it . Then I noticed oh my goodness this is not my food . They gave me shawarma plate . I went back and I said what I was supposed to have and I got another food and now I ate half of it . they were so nice . They apologized as it was their mistake and they gave me my order. I wanted to pay also for the first one but they didn't accept it .they said it's ok . The food was super delicious and fresh . I loved it . Wow oh wow ... fast service, great prices, huge servings ... what more could I want?? Delicious flavor and spicy a spot on as well. My husband got the Gyro and it was filled with meat, fresh veggies, and heavy on the tzatziki. The chicken kebab was not as pictured but tasted fine; the salad that came with it was wilted shredded lettuce and the meal would have been better without it. He threw in a baklava for us and it was the perfect way to end the meal. read more

I was having a hankering and was glad to see they were open. I got the Chicken Saj which was perfect! All the flavors were on point. They didn't overdue the sauces thankfully which is a pet peeve of mine. Everything tasted fresh, and the person at the cart was friendly and prompt. If it was maybe a dollar less, I wouldn't have minded but I also acknowledge these are hard times. Tip your food cart folks! read more

Some of the best Arabic food in Portland. Tops on our list of Shawarma Express dishes we've tried is the lamb gyro plate, which comes with rice, hummus, salad (mainly lettuce), tzatziki, and pita. Not only tasty but filling, and our group's hummus expert gives the homemade hummus a solid five stars. We also tried the chicken and lamb mixed plate, the beef shawarma plate, which we liked less than the lamb, and an extra side of the very good hummus. Reasonably fast and courteous service. 100% halal. Looking forward to more meals from this very fine food cart. read more

There has been new ownership in the last six months, it's not like it used to be. Hummus plate tasted like nothing, came with one piece of pita. Everything else is mediocre. Chicken and beef kabobs plate came with three 3 pieces of lettuce for the salad, and beef tasted like mutton. The owners are very nice and tried to make it right. They simply couldn't because I don't know if they know what they're doing. Red hot sauce is now Mexican hot sauce. After coming 15 plus times over the last 2 years, never again with the current quality. read more

Inside the Rose City Food Park and OPEN DURING THE APOCALYPSE (as are most cartsters in this pod, as well as covered seating and BEER!). Update: 10/13/2020: I wanted to try the Beef Saj, but he was out of beef at around 2pm, so I got the lamb. Wow! First, the saj was completely authentic, a thin Turkish flatbread, almost see-through, grilled with blisters... and the overall sandwich was ... like 14" long by 1.5" diameter, HUGE! I feel like for about $10, I really got my money's worth! The lettuce and tomato were super fresh, the harisa and tzatziki wonderfully creamy and flavorful... and one more highly unusual and wonderful thing... he wrapped it up so perfectly in foil and parchment that IT DIDN"T LEAK all over me! If you eat a lot of shawarma sandwiches or saj, you know this is a MAJOR accomplishment! The meat was very nicely spiced and flavorful and I hope I get to try the beef for a bit more bite later on. I ate half and brought the other half home for my sweetie. She'll be so pleased. Previous Review: I was a bit standoffish, because Portland has become the wasteland of generic gyros and also because they don't have a rotating spit, but never fear, their falafel saved the day! I got the falafel plate/dinner and the dolmas. The falafel offered a slightly different take, with more but smaller crispy critters, but this worked very well when it came to wrapping them in pita with fixings. The hummus was creamy, not stiff and the tsatziki and harissa were spot on and tasty. Everything, including the pita was freshly heated and crisped on the grill and with no scrimping on the olive oil, so things had a good balance and flavor. We shared it and still had leftovers. I'll return and change this rating depending on other dishes, hoping for 5 stars after I try the actual shawarma! read more

You'll find this friendly and fast food cart keeper in the Rose City Food Pod on Sandy. He will make your dish to order, I believe the gentleman who served us is the owner, and he's so kind, just tell him how you wish to have your order! My lamb gyro was scrumptious! It's one of the best I've had, and I'm a native NYer and 100% Greek - this was legit! The lamb chunks were big, thick, and tasty. Not your usual sliced thin fare, but nice and chunky and lots of meat! My gyro was bigger than my head! Hubby got the falafel gyro, which was also excellent and HUGE! And daughter got the beef shawarma, which she really enjoyed, but said next time she would get the lamb as she liked mine better! The food pod placed more tables with umbrellas, so the seating was great, and it wasn't crowded at all. We enjoyed our family afternoon Friday out for early dinner with several other families like ours on a beautiful summer day! read more

The food over all is amazing, the lamb gyro is my favorite. Great portions and delicious pita bread. The hummus is pretty bland in my opinion. The guy working there is not very nice at all, he's really short and seems annoyed every time I have ordered. I come back only because the food is so delicious. The owner was really amazing as well and offered us cookies when he noticed me son fell behind me and was crying. The food here is exceptional. We've come here twice in two weeks and got the beef kebabs with the hummus and tzatziki. It's one of the best beef kebabs we've had. I have eaten Greek cuisine at a limited number of locations in my life, less than a handful. However, I've appreciated the tastes well enough to be explorative, and cognizant of the differences between those I've checked out. 2 of the 4 places I've visited have seemed high quality, based off of the fullness of flavor, distinction between / the melding of spices, and the quality of the other ingredients. Shawarma Express cuisine texture/flavor seem akin to Nicholas's Restaurant which I have visited several times over the previous 15 or so years. There's a little something extra in the baklava that gives it a unique taste. Their tea is also delicious, but what makes it all even better is the hospitality, especially from the sister of the Falahi bros. The only drawback for me is that it's a little spendy. Otherwise I'd eat here much more frequently. Perfect for a nice treat though!

There was ample seating and the decor was pretty good considering the location. I had a new worker manning the order station, who was obviously stressed with the lunch rush. I won't hold it against her, or the cafe, for my order taking a little longer than usual. The food was good but didn't blow me away. It was presented nicely, but nothing spectacular that made me feel the need to rush back soon. I'd like to try again soon but am in no great rush.

It's hidden in a building where, apparently, only food ninjas know the entrance, and the parking lot is the only thing that's well-lit. Inside, past a treasure trove of loose-leaf tea and spices, I found a well-lit menu the size of a large billboard near the register. The owner, a very proud and friendly man, took my order. He was practically beaming about his establishment and, tragically, informed me I'd just missed the last of the homemade baklava. The disappointment was real. We ordered two items that would change my worldview: the Jalapeño Smash Burger and the Falafel Sandwich. First up: the burger. A double for a cool $8 à la carte! I was not prepared for this flavor explosion. What sets it apart is the seasoning--a symphony of black pepper and savory spices that hit just right. The American cheese was melted into perfection, creating a beautiful orange cascade over perfectly sautéed onions and jalapeños. A sturdy but soft brioche bun heroically contained all the juicy chaos. Seriously, this smash burger is better than some places that have "burger" in their name. Then, the falafel sandwich--a fresh, flavorful masterpiece. It features freshly baked, airy pita bread, ground chickpea falafel, crisp veggies, and their legendary house-made green sauce (which tastes like a cilantro-garlic party in my mouth). It was a light and delicious counterpoint to the burger's meaty glory. The only confusing part is the seating situation. There's plenty of space, but no tables. It's a "take your incredible food and run" situation. I'll be back for that elusive baklava and another burger, you can count on it. Highly recommend finding this culinary speakeasy!
