Took over a month and several failed attempts to NOT fix the AC. Changed multiple parts that turned out were not the problem. We ended up using another company. They fixed it in an hour. Just heard from Shaw's home comfort, about the review I posted months ago. Wanted to "talk with me about it". Not much to talk about. They grossly overcharged me and that's all there is to it. I called at the time and complained and they pretty much told me "so sorry, chump, that's the way it is", so I don't know what there is to talk about. I'm guessing due to all the bad ratings, that they're not getting near the business that the old, reliable, fair, Shaw's had. And I can see why. Unless they offer me a free service of some kind I have nothing to say to them. We would like to have our home unit serviced for winter, but there's no way I will call Shaw's again. Originally wrote them a good review years ago but after my most recent negative experience with them and an unanswered email I feel obligated to not only let my frustration out, but give other consumers an unbiased opinion of this business. First off they're not known for being affordable so with that said one would think you get what you pay for. Our AC system has had a leak ever since moving into our new home. Wasn't caught till just past the one year mark so wasn't able to get the builder to repair it. Called Tulare Air conditioning who originally installed the system and they simply refilled it and called it a day. Shaws found a leaky condenser which they replaced. Thankfully the system was under warranty but the labor was an arm and a leg. Still loosing refrigerant and a few years later of refilling it twice a year we decided under their advice to move the system outside and replace the lines where they believed the leak to be. That was last year. This year it started to get pretty warm with the system constantly running and not cooling the house down. I called Shaws who send a technician over only to say everything was fine and it was only hot because it was so hot outside. $70 and all he did was replace the air filter. Another hot month would go by before I would call a local guy to check it and tell me that it was almost two pounds low and an audible leak was heard at the service port. Seems like an all too easy fix for the Shaws guy to miss. An expensive fix as he recommended replacing the entire unit but hopefully finding the problem once and for all. I'm disappointed that a company with whom I've done business with for many years and whom I've paid so much money would not only not find the problem and say it was all good, but blow off my email and pocket my $70. I can no longer in good faith recommend Shaws air conditioning. If they had answered my email and made things right I probably wouldn't have gone to these measures. You don't truly get what you pay for. Might have only been a tired or lazy employee but I gave them an opportunity to explain it and they didn't. But they definitely price gouge and take advantage of you with the pricing. 70$ dual run capacitor is not 800$ and it doesn't even equate to a normal labor cost for 30min -1 hr worth of work. I was in a pinch and had guests, I needed the part. But do your research, have them diagnose and tell you what's wrong with it. Fix it yourself. It's way cheaper. I didn't even want to ask about military discount seeing that's the "value" they give customers. Well at least I was quoted a 5 year warranty through them. But who knows what that will entail. I give Shaws Air Conditioning & Heating 1 star and absolutely do not recommend using any of their services. I have 2 service contracts with them and had them install a new AC unit on one of my homes. I was told when they came out to service the unit that it was installed incorrectly and I would need to purchase additional parts when they were the ones to install the unit to begin with. Then on my second home, they disconnected the heat without consulting with me first and are refusing to turn the heat back on. I requested a Service Manager to call me and when he returned my call he was unprofessional in didn't really know why he was calling. Kept stuttering and lacked any communication skills. He hadn't even looked at the service reports or knew why he was reaching out. read more

My heater had gone out so I call this company up and they had sent a tech out to look at it, after going through looking at it he told me I needed an new motor, I couldn't believe it due to this unit was 2 years old. Total coming out to 1800 for a new motor and serge protector that is not really needed , and charging me for intense labor cause it was going to be a hard job for a professional to do. So I paid $97 for them to come out and try to scam me ‍. So I decided to get a second opinion and tried a different company and when they got here they unplugged the fan and plug it back in and it started working and nothing was wrong with my motor. Beware of this company, tech claims to have 10 years of experience, but come to think about it he has 10 year of scamming people out of their money, just the way the tech was talking he sounded more like a salesman then a technician and sounded fishy and not a trust worthy guy, so before you go with this company get a second opinion because I would not recommend to my gold fish. I debated posting this, at this point I think it's important to share my experience. Right before Christmas, my heater stopped working. Shaw's came out, I paid just under $1,000 to have it repaired. New Year's Day, we woke up to a leak on our roof where the AC sits. I called my home warranty company who sent an inspector. The inspector determined the issue may be related to the installation of the HVAC unit (installed prior to us moving in, unknown who installed). They also stated the unit may be leaking. Having good experience with Shaw's, I contacted them to take a look at the unit. They were wonderful. They did a thorough job reviewing the issues and we agreed to purchase a new unit and we were told this would also fix the leak, and they would fix the roof where the leak occurred, they said they were experienced in fixing roofing like this and I didn't need to call a roofer!! We paid just under $14,000. A few weeks after install, we woke up to 4 new leaks on the roof. I contacted Shaw's, they came out several times...and insisted the leaks were not caused by them. So, I had a third party inspector come out who confirmed the leaks were caused by whomever installed the new unit. They showed us pictures of holes that were not properly sealed after the old unit was removed and areas where the newly installed frame was not sealed properly. Shaw's was respectful through the process, and ultimately agreed to fix the issue, although they never directly accepted accountability. Prior to the day the person came to fix it, I was told he would go in the attic to determine the source of the leaks and ensure all issues were fixed. He did not. He slathered my roof around the unit in roofing tar. It is an absolute mess. Since a permit had to be pulled for the install, a City of Visalia inspector came out to check the work, and indicated that a "water bucket test" needed to be completed before he would approve the work as the slathering of roofing tar not only looked messy, he indicated this was a temporary fix. This was mid-April. Since then, no one has contacted me. After much debate, I determined posting this review is appropriate. While I always felt that Shaw's in general was respectful, I was disappointed in the lack of accountability and the work that was completed after being told they would "fix it." I genuinely had so much respect for this company and I'm completely disheartened by my experience after investing nearly $15,000. read more

Shaws installed a new ac/heater Coleman system for us. Victor, the install manager came out and answered all of our questions. The install went perfectly and the system works great. They even installed a thermostat with Alexa so we can give voice commands to our unit to turn it on or off from another room. We are very happy with the unit and grateful for honest installers who took the time to make sure we were completely satisfied with our unit and the setup of the thermostat. It's not cheap; however, it gives me peace of mind knowing our equipment is maintained properly & I get a discount if parts need to be replaced. I don't like surprise costs or breakdowns. All is explained exceptionally well. I'm a female & I'm treated with respect and as a valued customer. I am never talked down to. Today Brent brought his co-worker, Julio, who is learning this stage of servicing. Brent is a thorough, patient teacher. I listened. Brent is detail oriented & is easy to communicate with. Julio is professional, courteous, and hardworking, as evidenced by his attention to detail. Both men are diligent, earnest workers that represent the best of Shaw's AC & Heating. It doesn't get better than Brent & Julio. Hey, how about a raise in pay for these experts? Go with the pay raise. I am completely pleased with Shaw's AC & Heating. They were prompt in coming out to look at the heater. I missed the call from the tech. When I called in they said he would call back never did. They called a week later. I asked about the work order I was told that parts were under warranty (newish HVAC) and that the quote was for labor. I was told it would take 4-5 hours. First I was told labor just went up to $396/hour. When I asked why this 5 hour job would be over $450/ hour. I was told there were extras added. read more

Over 100F weather the next 2 weeks and my A/C went out. And I have dogs that can't tolerate heat so I was ecstatic when they said they could come the next day. Now the reason for the 1 star.. What should have cost around $300, (replaced 2 capacitors and tested the unit) cost me almost $1200!!! The price for the capacitor alone was over $400 each!! Amazon sells them for around $30, depending on which you need. I was desperate so I had no choice. So all I can do is warn everybody! Shaw's charges around 3 times what the others would charge. If I could give this place less than one star, I would sure be doing that. My mom is 82 and my dad is 77 and due to a massive stroke, is disabled and lost both his speech and mobility. On May 26th my mom had these guys (who also regularly do annual maintenance on her unit that they installed) come look at her AC as it was making a terrible noise and stopped blowing cold air. Their inside temperature at the time has climbed to 85 degrees. They finally showed up and told her it was the motor which would be $1000 for parts and $400 for labor (which is ridiculous) and the next day the same problem occurred after having the problem fixed according to them and my mom already paying close to $1500. Except on this call, they told my mom they would send a technician out to her house by 4:30pm and she waited and waited, temperature climbing the entire tome, and no one ever showed up! We ensured her ceiling fans were working and it got so hot that night that my Dad began vomiting and showing signs of a heat stroke. Because of his disability, it is not simple just to take him to another family member's home or to a hotel due to his home having ramps, bars, and a bed set up just for him. As of today, we have had to call them back to her house FIVE times and they told her yesterday it was a holiday weekend and "that time of year M'am" and a technician MIGHT show up by 8pm? As you can already guess, NO ONE SHOWED UP LAST NIGHT. My dad is disabled and his house and bedroom are set up just for his needs. WHAT KIND OF COMPANY KEEPS ELDERLY, DISABLED CUSTOMERS TO SUFFER IN THE HEAT OVER A MONTH LIKE THIS? Save your money, time frustrations and overall health. These people are not a reputable company and I wouldn't trust them to provide AC to my doghouse at this point. I have already helped my mom file a BBB Complaint and we are seeking other options to notify the State and County about Elder abuse. This is ridiculous. Do NOT trust these people. read more

First, while I have an issue with one thing, I will note that their office staff and technician were professional, informative, and helpful. The technician was personable, informative, and completed his task as expected and was knowledgeable of his trade. My concern is with their billing practices. I entered into an annual service contract for about $267 for two service calls for the year. If not, a one time charge would be around $187. The technician, in performing his job, drove to my home, inspected the air cleaner, inspected the furnace, and inspected the air conditioning unit which included opening the unit to clean and check/test components. In testing, the capacitor was found to be out of tolerance so I ok'd replacing it since at some point it would need to be. They charged an additional $300 plus, originally over $400 but I got a discount since I was a 'member'. My argument is that the service charge covered the technician driving out here, taking the units apart for testing, and charges for cleaning, etc. Basically 99% of the work had been completed to replace a capacitor. The 1% is for walking to the truck, getting the part, unplugging the old, plugging in the new. Basically, a less then 5 minute effort. They are charging me a full service charge as if they were on a separate visit to replace the capacitor. If it was a separate service call, I'd understand. They justify it as a flat rate. The flat rate I assume includes labor, expertise, drive time, time to replace the part including opening up the unit, and miscellaneous. Mind you, 99% of the effort to check replace a capacitor had already been done but I'm still being charged a full service charge as if it was a separate call. The part is around $20 or thereabouts on line but I expect the business marks that up which is ok by me. I would recommend anyone who decides to use them, bear in mind of their billing practices. I used them because I prefer to use local businesses when possible but I suspect perhaps using someone else would have been much more reasonable and less pricey. Shaw's needs to be looking at things from their customers perspective, and not from their bank account. Yes, they did not accept my perspective. read more

Had to have someone come out and take a look at my ac over the last weekend. Tech was friendly and got the job done quick, but he price gouged the snot out of me, and then tried to tell me there was more work they could do to keep the house cool, tried telling me the ducts weren't set up properly and that I could do with more insulation up top. Spoke with another company (PR HVAC 's Dan) and he let me know that I didn't need that extra work at all, that it wouldn't do anything to keep the temp down, and that he would not have charged what they did for the capacitor that I needed. Looked it up online and the part was a $120 part, but they charged ~$650, and an additional $350 to clean the coils. So they clearly have their techs working on some kind of commission basis and I won't be trusting this company with anything ever again. read more

I've been a customer of Shaw's for about 3 years now and their service has been exceptional. I've dealt with multiple employees and every one has been professional and friendly. Most recently, Jeff was here to perform maintenance on my a/c unit and he did a wonderful job on letting me know everything about my warranty, how much a unit replacement would cost when it came to that in the future, and how much individual parts might cost if and when those needed replacement. I really appreciate when people let me know about possible upcoming issues because you know those things will happen in the future. He also informed me that Shaw's has financing options for new units, which I will need! Shaw's also called me back very quickly when I scheduled an appointment online, which I was very pleased about; their customer service is excellent. Robbers! I need an exciting swap cooler replaced. Mounts power water everything run. This is a wall mount to no crain or fork lift needed. Power water everything was in place. High end retail was $900 for the swamp cooler and parts. They wanted over $4500 TO do the replacement. I could do it in an hour but giving them the benefit of the dought that their people such and are slow 2 hours still means they wanted close to $1850 an hour to replace a swap cooler. Good help you is you have ac and need real work. You better be looking into a second on the house to get work done by these people read more

Our AC friend was out of town & suggested we call Shaw's. How nice to have a real person answer the phone on a Labor Day weekend :) We were given a two-hour time frame & our tech, Brent got here in one & 1/2 hours. Brent explained different options, including the planned maintenance program, which we signed up for. We were shocked at the price for the part, but ONLY because I had looked up parts for our 7-year-old 20 seer unit & Shaw's were lower prices. Brent got it fixed in under 1/2 an hour, YAY!!! We felt totally comfortable with Brent. Brent is professional, intelligent, friendly & knows his stuff! Brent kept us apprised of what he was doing & why very cool. I was a member but I had my central air cleaned and serviced and then my heater wouldn't work because someone broke a switch inside we never had a problem until they serviced it then when I called to make appointment to check it they were going to charge me $77.00 to check it even though I still had one credit to have it serviced they argued with me and couldn't even come out same day so I called Jr's they came out same day best decision they were awsome they only charged me $66.00 and I wasn't a member. I do take the blame on this as I probably should have said no to the service and researched the problem. But when there are temps of 108 and your AC goes out, you'd expect a company to not take advantage of the situation. They charged $400ish for a capacitor that is only $65, when asked if they had anything other than this "special" capacitor, they said no they don't and this is the only one they use. Then they charge a diagnostic fee of $89 which they don't even use to offset the cost if you decide to go on with the repair. Obscene upmarket charge and I feel that the tech lied when he said they don't carry a normal capacitor for my unit. But I have to keep my family cool during these hot times, and no other company got back to us. Then the bill that they send out is far from transparent, they don't have a breakdown or a detail on the cost. After this I have found other plenty of better, reputable places to go. Our initial contact with Jeff Shaw was when he responded to our request for a quote for solar installation. He came over on a Saturday and spent a lot of time doing measurements and pictures, and interviewing us about what we wanted and exactly where we wanted it; and very little time trying to sell us anything. The next day (Sunday) our AC suddenly stopped working. We called Jeff he had a technician at our home in 45 minutes. He was nice, knowledgable, and had our AC up and running in a half an hour. Fast forward to our new 20 seer AC being installed. These guys were amazing! Clean, respectful, courteous, kind and oh, so efficient. When our A/C went out they were very fast to come out and look at the problem first time couldn't figure it out call some other people same result. Call them back turns out it was to compressor that failed. They were very helpful in helping us get the correct size replacement for the house. They hooked us up with a portable unit for the family room. once everything came in it was installed fast. had solar panels installed also the first set went up quick took a little longer for the second set. they didn't pick up after them self from the roof job and a few tiles were broke in the processes. they are very hard to work with after the job is done.
