I stopped in at the Shaw's supermarket while visiting family in Portland. I found parking rather quickly. Then again, I'm from South Florida where parking lots are always crowded. This store was a bit grungy. It truly would help to shut it down for a few days and scrub down everything. That being said, it wasn't bad enough to deter me from picking up a few items. I got some cannoli's from the bakery. They shell was a bit soggy, however the cream was spot on. It was not the best but in a pinch, I would buy them again. The lobster salad roll was better than expected. I ate it right in the parking lot. It's not a lobster roll, it has pieces of lobster along with some imitation lobster and too much mayonnaise. Would I buy another one? Sure, I wish they had these in Publix here in Florida. read more

While I can usually find what I am looking for here it seems that Humpty Dumpty is getting squeezed out of the chip aisle by UTZ , FritoLay and CapeCod. I am sure you know the BEST chip for the value and one that used to be locally made so it actually as a following and is usually sold out of its meager allotment of space is HUMPTY DUMPTY. So please give it the space it deserves, and NO I won't pay more than $4 for a bag of chips, and I don't need 5. Also, you know the breakfast sandwiches with sausage everyone loves? These are hard to make when you don't carry the large breakfast sandwich sized sausage like Hannaford and Walmart and everyone else does. thanks read more

So, it's been 7 yrs. since my last review of Shaw's. They continue to innovate, sometimes with success, other times not. First, the positives. 1. they continue to exist! and with care and effort 2. when asked, the employees are helpful 3. the selection is adequate. Not overwhelming. 4. location is really good, for me 5. they keep trying! (: Next, the needs for improvement. 1. employee smoking and hanging out in front of the store is unattractive and just plain ugly. 2. prices. I can get a box of crackers at $3.99 per, if I buy five. 5? Really? What an incentive. 3. they really play games with their prices, even more than before Covid. 4. I buy a number of things at Trader Joe's (prices, some for selection), or for rarities (or known, serious upgrades) at Whole Foods. But Shaws works for many things, so long as it's on a decent sale (not 10 cents off an item!) 5. their buyer(s) don't get this local crowd, that's obvious. Extremely hit or miss. read more

I usually prefer Hannaford to Shaw's. Most Shaw's...Shaw'ses I've been in have felt kind of dirty and poorly stocked. This is a heckin nice Shaw's. Clean and respectable. Here we go again! This probably makes the 8th time since April that I have gone in to have a correction made on my receipt. I buy something clearly marked on sale for $6.99 and look at my receipt and it's charged me $8.49. I don't care if it was 10 cents or $5 it's the principal that Mr Shaw is reaping the benefits of unsuspecting in a hurry customers how much does he make every day extra. Here's my complaint....the location of the employee smoking is in the front of Starbucks parking spaces. Here's the deal, I have called several times and been told they agree it's unacceptable and they will make sure their employees are smoking out back and that isn't happening. It is completely unacceptable that when I get out of my car I am engulfed by smoking, the windows on the side of Starbucks are completely filled with smoke. MOVE THIS AREA ASAP for us non smokers, children and people with lung issues. The store is clean but I have found that they don't often have a lot of staff working, making for long lines. The produce selection is mediocre. I have converted to a Hannaford shopper after years of visiting this location. read more

You know those photos of the store manager and employee of the month you see in many supermarkets? This Shaw's left the frames empty for a couple years. They just had empty frames hanging on the wall. Shopping here feels like you're shopping in a store with no manager or customer service stars. A couple of months ago they were using Star Market bags. Did they run out of their own bags? I don't know. They finally took those empty frames down. You can still see the screw holes in the fake wood paneling. +1 star(review star not Star Market) for their vintage soda selection. read more

This Shaw's is located in a plaza with Bank of America, Starbucks, Anytime Fitness, Little Caesar's, CVS, Hallmark store, and a sportsware shop. With all these stores, there's still plenty of parking and it hardly ever gets too crowded. There's a Redbox inside, and most days the store is open 7-11, except for Sunday nights when it closes earlier. They have a decent amount of sales, but produce tends to look a bit fresher over at Hannaford. The employees are generally nice and friendly, and the hard liquor is on the other side of the store from the beer. read more

This is a great place to go for everyday shopping! I now always go here for my shopping and food! When you near the area. You see that there is a recycling place! I stock those dirty cans and bags in the different bins! And then there's the store. Oh my gosh. It's great! With tons of different types of food. Beef. Seafood. And even hot sauce! This place is to-go! Even beyond that is the various goodies you can get. Like. For example. Lottery tickets! A pharmacy! A unique monopoly prize system! A store discount card/keychain! And even a magazine stand! Plus. The employees are quite nice! The only sad part is that it is the only Shaws that doesn't have the iconic self checkout. So there's that. So the empty space is just for a candy Stand. Overall. This is a great store to go to! I advise you go ahead and stay awhile! read more

Oh Shaw's...you have amazing stamina and endurance never wanting to give up. :) If we are in the area running errands and don't want to drive and make multiple stops, we do shop at this store. This definitely not my go to place for grocery shopping, but when I do go, I stock up on items not found at my other go to places. Sooooo many options for hash, beyond corned beef. :) Ham, Sausage Roast Beef. Microwave ready white rice bowls (NOT Uncle Bens) the light Cream Cheese we like, Velveeta Cheese dip cups. So yes, this place is the place to go when you are getting ready for an upcoming storm :) LOL They do not carry local items like Hannaford does, that is a huge down side for me. Their craft beer selection is pretty sparse. I really like the staff here, the customer service is fantastic and even when it appears to be extremely busy, we have never had to stand in line for more than 5 minutes. The smell....not sure what it is about this location, but it always smells, like a wet dog has been smoking cheap cigarrettes in the rain. It actually makes me gag at times. If you need to get essentials and are in the area, this place will do. The staff/parking and my "special" junk treats are what keeps me coming back to this location. read more

Bigger than the Congress st location. Has many aisles, lots of choices to choose from. They have the "international" aisles, the healthy section, good floral section. Location can't be any better. They've got the recycling redemption outside the store and plenty of parking. read more

I like this Shaw's because it is near me and has a relatively good selection of items. They carry a specific wine that I like, that I can't find in any other markets in the area -- big plus. There's always plenty of parking. They're in a convenient plaza. Huge plus for the self-check out area. Now if they added PayPass to their Point of Sales (POS), I'd give them 5 stars. Protip: If you do shop here, do look at the expiration dates. I've been a patron for two years now, and have regularly found expired items on the shelf. One day was particularly bad: I noticed three different products throughout the store that had expired items on the shelves. I checked my cart and found another expired item. They had all expired by 2-3 weeks. read more

We just left this store and will never return. Floors are dirty; bathroom looks like it hasn't been serviced in days; no service at the bakery so we could not get the cake we wanted for my husband's birthday - even after we rang the bell and waited! And no baggers at 5:15 at night? Just terrible. Go to Hannaford. read more

Forget those negative reviews from way back. This Shaw's has been steadily improving over the past year and into 2021. They now have self-checkout, their flower department is simply outstanding, the produce is as good and fresh as most other markets, the rotisserie chickens are absolutely the best anywhere--always juicy and tender--and there are some times new displays that change with the seasons. I get the feeling they are trying hard, and I think they are succeeding. My only complaint is the lack of small carts like those in Hannaford's. read more

This store is in dire need of a complete facilities update. It's virtually the same infrastructure that was present when I moved to North Deering in 1983. For years.....living about 1 1/2 miles north of it....I drove past it, three miles to go to the Hanniford in Falmouth. Now I'm older and lazier....but I don't like it much better. The produce section is clearly inferior...limited organic items...limited selection....zip on presentation...it's weak. The salad bar is ok...but again nothing like whole foods... The meat and butchery is very basic....limited selection....if you want a mass supermarket butchery....the Falmouth Hanniford will cut and or special order anything you want....far superior. My biggest peeve....the lack of 10 item or less isles....basically one.....Hanniford usually has three or four....it's a mismanagement cost cutting error in my eyes....and painful for the two or three times a week shopper like me... Staff is very friendly....and it's close to my home.....so I give it 2 1/2 to 3 stars...because the register gals all know me by name....which is nice read more

Have not had such a great experience here so far. The employees are nice and friendly but the store definitely seems older and there are not as many people shopping. I had a hard time finding milk that wouldn't expire in a few days and I bought a huge pack of chicken only to open it at home and realize it was spoiled, it was still before the sell by date. I probably could have brought it back to get my money back but it was trash day and it was nasty I just wanted it out of my sight. That's $8 I'll never get back. The selection isn't as good as Hannaford, I think I am switching back. read more

Pluses include lots of parking. They also have several varieties/flavors for different brands. This location is very convenient close to a recycling center, several pharmacies, and a Bank of America. The aisles are nice and wide. Produce and meat prices for some items are on par with Hannaford's while other items are a little cheaper. read more

I just came back from Shaw's on Auburn St in Portland Maine after the worst experience of my life in a store. As the cashier who was very sweet and pleasant was ringing up my items a woman named Renee cane up and began grabbing things out of my cart and throwing them on the register belt. I was shocked by this behavior but said nothing. Then when the cashier asked if I found everything ok I said yes and thank you, then under her breath I heard this woman who was bagging my groceries say under her breath " And then some". At that point I became so angry and embarrassed I just wanted to get out of there. She threw my items in my reusable bags with no care. I went home and called Shaw's and spoke to the manager there who was extremely nice and listened and offered and appeasement if I came back to see him. I declined. I will never be returning to that store. I don't want anything but to be treated with respect when I go into a store and spend my money. As I unpacked my bags I saw that she just threw things in there without any care. I will not be returning to that Shaw's or spending my money at any other because of this rude ignorant woman named Renee. If she doesn't want to be there she shouldn't be there. I spend over $90.00 there and I regret not just walking out and leaving all the items there and going to another store. One where I am not disrespected and treated like garbage. This woman needs to be reprimanded if not fired. I told a friend of this horrible experience as soon as I got home and they were as shocked as I was. I will NEVER step foot in another Shaw's for the rest of my life because of this employee, and the horrible and shocking way she acted. I am still angry and disgusted by the entire encounter. read more
