I work with my hands for a living, and my nails genuinely needed proper cleaning and prep before tips were applied. Instead, I found myself having to repeatedly ask for basic prep work while being made to feel uncomfortable for speaking up. The tips were then applied with excessive glue/product underneath the nails, leaving thick chunks underneath that make the nails difficult to properly clean. When I expressed concern, I was told the glue "had to be there" to make the nails strong. I have been getting my nails done for decades and have never had a technician argue with me for not wanting large globs of hardened glue underneath my nails. When I said I wanted to stop the service, I was told "let me fix it," but the issues were never actually corrected. The nail lengths and shapes were inconsistent, the filing/shaping was uneven, and there were visible imperfections, debris, and rough edges throughout the work. I also had concerns about sanitation. The UV lamp being used appeared dirty and damaged, and the drill/e-file bits looked visibly unclean between clients, which made me increasingly uncomfortable during the appointment. I had an appointment on Saturday at Glamourax for hair and makeup before a gala. I was scheduled for 12:30pm for Hollywood waves and makeup. When I originally scheduled my appointment, there was a text exchange with Arax (the manager/owner) where she told me, "The girl who's really good at it is available at 12:30." She also confirmed that Sonna would be my hairstylist. Because of that, I felt confident booking the appointment and trusted I would be getting the Hollywood waves style I requested. For transparency, I will be attaching screenshots of the text messages from when the appointment was scheduled. When I arrived, Sonna was very sweet and kind. I showed her a photo of the Hollywood waves I wanted and trusted that she knew how to achieve that style. During the process there was a lot of hairspray and heat while curling, but I didn't question it because another client next to me was also getting Hollywood waves by a different stylist and her hair looked beautiful, so I assumed everything was going as expected. Unfortunately, when my hair was finished it looked like tight curls everywhere and nothing like the Hollywood waves in the photo I showed. For reference, my hair is medium length, a little past my shoulders, and the tight curls made it appear much shorter than it actually is. Sonna tried brushing the curls out after I mentioned a concern, but it still didn't resemble the style I had asked for. I was then moved to makeup, and I have to say the makeup artist Supo was AMAZING. She checked in with me during every step, asked if I liked what she was doing, and had me look in the mirror throughout the process to make sure I approved. I absolutely loved my makeup and would happily go back to her again if I ever need my makeup done. I left the salon feeling confused and unhappy about my hair, especially since I was getting ready for a gala. I'm not great with confrontation and didn't want to offend Sonna because she was genuinely kind, so I didn't speak up as much as I probably should have in the moment. After I left, I decided to call and see if anything could be done. Arax called me back quickly and was very responsive. I explained that it wasn't about a refund -- I just needed my hair fixed before my event that evening. She tried to see if anyone was available and even offered to pay for me to go somewhere else when the salon was fully booked, which I appreciated. Eventually they were able to have me come back in and two stylists helped me redo my hair. They were very kind and did their best to help on short notice. I ended up with beach waves instead of Hollywood waves, but it looked much better and I was grateful they made the effort to help before my event. While I was there the second time, one stylist sitting behind me seemed visibly frustrated and was staring at me throughout the appointment, which made the situation feel a bit uncomfortable. However, the two stylists who helped redo my hair were kind and professional, and I appreciated them taking the time to help. I also want to mention that Arax was incredibly kind and attentive throughout the whole process. She continued texting with me even after I left the salon the second time to check in and make sure everything turned out okay. I even sent her photos of my final look because I was happy with how everything came together in the end. That level of care and follow-up meant a lot. The salon itself has a really fun atmosphere, it honestly felt like being part of a big glam party while everyone was getting ready, and most of the staff were friendly and welcoming. My only recommendation would be to make sure the stylist assigned is comfortable with the specific style you're requesting. Since I had been told the stylist was "really good" at Hollywood waves, I had high expectations and was excited for that look for the gala. In 2016 I came to this salon to have my hair dyed red professionally. Went to them for about 2…read moreyears, and they changed my formula every appointment (inconsistent color every time). I didn't complain about it at the time because it wasn't a big deal to me. The salon owner, Sai, is a nice person and fun to talk to. She told me to come to her for color correction if I ever wanted to go back to my natural blonde. I started dyeing my hair red with henna in 2018 because it was way cheaper and healthier for my hair than chemical dye, so I didn't come back to color lounge. I also found a vintage hair stylist and started seeing her regularly instead (personal preference). She retired from doing hair during the pandemic, and I needed someone to do my hair...so in 2021 I went back to blonde after about a year of zero henna applications. The hairdresser who got me to blonde again in 2021 moved away, so I went back to henna for less than 2 years. I decided to go back to blonde for good in August 2023, so I contacted Sai & gave my hair history. She said no problem, we can start your transition back to blonde with minimal damage. I was quoted a 6 hour appointment and would be charged an hourly rate--when all was said and done, I was at the salon from 9am-9pm and was charged $1,800. I was not happy at the end of the appointment, but I just wanted to go home...I felt obligated to tip 20% because of the time Sai & her assistant spent, so in total I spent $2,300. I wanted to cry leaving the appointment. How do you tell someone who spent 12 hours working on your hair that you don't like it? The real disappointment sank in when I felt/saw/realized how damaged my hair was...it was breaking off any time I touched it or brushed/styled it. It has taken over 12 months to regain any semblance of hair health, and no thanks to Color Lounge. I asked Sai after my appointment if we could do some kind of professional deep conditioning, mask, or treatment to help repair the damage and she said "just buy the redken acidic bonding line" and offered nothing else in the way of recovery or assistance. Needless to say, that was my last appointment at color lounge.

I bought some nice bundles and needed a serious professional to install them for me. It had been nearly 2 decades since I've stepped foot into a salon and was happy when social media did me another solid and led me to EBB. I made it on time to my 1:30pm appointment and was greeted by the lovely Kergie who calmed my first time jitters with a mimosa (and she kept on bringing them through the entire appointment - I lost count after 4). She got me shampooed and trimmed me up (a major necessity after years of not seeing a stylist) and went over my hair health needs as well as my vision for the style I was going for. After a few hours of braiding, installing, and styling, I was a brand new woman. I drove an hour to get here for a curly sew-in, but the placement of the wefts was done poorly. The lengths don't flow well, and too much of my natural hair was left out at the top, which makes it hard to blend, not because of curl pattern, but simply because of placement. I paid $400 (bringing my own hair), and I left with a style I can't really wear out confidently. My bigger concern, though, was how my natural hair was handled. I have 4b/4c hair that requires being washed with lots of water, product, and detangled while wet. Instead, my hair was detangled dry, tugged through with a blow dryer and brushed from the root with little to no product. It was painful and damaging. The stylist also suggested I do a keratin treatment, calling it a "protein treatment," but a keratin treatment is actually a chemical process that loosens curls. I shared with her that I have past trauma surrounding my hair, so the way it was handled and the comment that my hair wasn't "manageable" felt hurtful. It left me feeling like there wasn't an understanding of how to properly care for my texture. On top of that, I felt like speed was prioritized over quality. The result was uncomfortable both during the appointment and after, and I may have to take this sew-in out much sooner than expected. I don't think this reflects the entire salon, since I saw other stylists doing beautiful work. But based on my own experience, I personally wouldn't return unless I was matched with someone who really understands and respects natural 4b/4c hair care.
