Shea pulled through for me in a crisis. I did a local move, about 5 miles driving by car. One of the two owners passed by, near about on time despite it being the day the tornadoes hit b'klyn and queens. Gave us a very decent quote. Move started just on time (9am, 9:05?). Everything packed up quickly, everyone was courteous. Then disaster struck. We couldn't move in due to complications on the co-op side. Unpacking and re-packing to unpack again would be horrendous. We worked things out w/ Shea. They did the one shining thing here - they didn't gouge us and sympathized with the entire situation since we weren't homeless, but wouldn't have a real home for a few days. The lead on the moving team, awesome guy, insisted on no drama and wanted to make us happy every step of the way, even through our woes. Got the large furniture in place, and the rest in areas we requested. THe other important thing, not a scratch on my wood floor. Very humble people as well. Everyone has a go-to company for some things, like repairs, laundry, mechanics. These are my go-to guys for moving. read more

We've used Shea twice now, and can't recommend them highly enough. On the phone, Julie was kind, patient, and helpful in scheduling us. Brian came to our apartment and took a careful inventory, humming to himself and explaining everything super-clearly. Their (hour-based) estimates struck us as surprisingly low, but they know what they're doing, because twice now they finished their moves exactly on the nose of when the estimate said. I used Shea Movers for my recent move from a 5th floor walkup to a 2nd floor apt in an elevator building. What I didn't consider (or really even remember - I have been a bit stressed) until the day of the move was that to get to that elevator you had to walk down 4 or 5 stairs. Also, my new block was a very narrow street and had nowhere to park. This did not phase these guys at all. I'm sure it was a pain, especially since we were on a time crunch to get me into the building before 5pm. However, they were just as incredible at this stage of the move as they were at the start of it. I can't rave enough about Shea. The stress level on my part was enormous, however, every call to Shea in the pre-move process resulted in a wonderful bubble of calm. They took care of everything I had questions about and then some. Doing this alone was especially stressful, but with Shea helping me, I no longer felt so alone. They even added a man and still capped the original quote in case it got that far, so that we could be sure to get my things into the new apt before the 5:00 cutoff since they were already booked in the morning on the day I needed to move. The "bonus guy" as he called himself even showed up early and started helping me take care of anything he could before the rest of the crew arrived. As for the actual move out/move in process, the guys were amazing. So helpful, so nice, and really truly took care of absolutely everything. I did start to get the jitters right before we were to finally leave the old place, but there was no reason for them! I really could just relax and let them take care of things, which is what they told me to do. In their words to me.... "this is why you hired movers. Let us take care of this. Relax." Once in the new place, everything went very quickly and my things were set up as easily as possible. All I had to do was make my bed. Oh yeah, and unpack. I chose to get away and go skiing instead, but that's another story. I will recommend Shea Movers to everyone. My next move, I will absolutely be calling them again. They were amazing. I want to echo all of the positive reviews on here. Interacting with both Julie and Anna was wonderful. Julie came over and gave us an estimate and in the process she also gave us some advice on ways to make the move go quicker-- since it was a local move, we brought art work and music gear over on our own-- and she talked to us about how they worked. Prior to the move, both Julie and Anna were very responsive and accessible via phone and email. We decided to do the hourly rate and the crew we worked with was great-- they clocked in a bit later because it took a while to park near us-- and they were diligent throughout the entire job. AND they were nice. I checked in with Julie about midway through about how things were going and then we talked again after the move was over-- again, they are super concerned and invested in how things are going. I really like their bin system and encourage folks who use them in the future to take advantage of this-- a great way to cut down on boxes. Also, they were really conscientious with our stuff. So, they're definitely not the cheapest folks around (I shopped around earlier) but I do think that I felt extremely comfortable working with them and felt like our stuff would be safe. This is a long-overdue note of praise for Shea Moving and the great work they did in facilitating my move this past October from my long-time residence on the Upper East Side to my new home in the West Village. All my previous moves I did by myself with a handful of family and friends - and the last move was over 30 years ago! So, this was my first (and hopefully last) experience with a professional moving company, and Shea Moving was great. Brian Shea came by my apartment beforehand to discuss the move (as well as engage in some pleasant, casual conversations about our common experiences of growing up in NYC during the 1980s). The fixed estimate he gave me was very reasonable, but the final cost was almost 40% less! (most of that savings went into an extra-large tip to the movers; they were terrific. Quick but careful in the handling of all items - whether boxes of books or delicate art works - and a pleasure to chat and work with). I was fortunate in that I had a good amount of time to prepare for the move. All items were boxed beforehand (save for one large painting, which I sealed and protected, but was moved in special boxes provided by Shea). Boxes were numbered and I had drawn up a checklist on my iPad detailing what each box contained. Some boxes were going to my apartment, some were going directly to the storage bins in my building, and some were going to a storage space at a nearby Manhattan Mini Storage site. All these boxes - over 140, not including furniture! - were separated beforehand, making the loading/unloading that much quicker and easier for the movers. But before taking off downtown, the lead mover insisted we do a "walk-thru" of my apartment to make sure nothing was inadvertently left behind. In the end, after all the preparation I had done beforehand and all the care Shea's movers exhibited on the day of the move, only one item was damaged - the glass covering a small framed photograph, and that was a result of my trying to stuff too many picture frames into a small cardboard box. I can't say it wasn't a stressful move - I think most moves such as this are stressful, to a greater or lesser degree - but Brian and Julie Shea and their staff made this move about as easy and successful as they get. Our move with Shea was a great experience. We had several additional stresses on top of our move, and we were so glad that we didn't have to worry about the move itself because we were in such good hands. Brian came over and gave us a honest and fair estimate for a two stop move (apartment & storage unit, to apartment), the best part of which is that it was a capped estimate. On the day of the move, they sent an extra man which would have added an extra couple hundred dollars to our invoice, but they honored their cap from the estimate. It's a family company and the guys who do all the heavy lifting are friendly and courteous. These guys guys work HARD and FAST! They were a bit late, but it's because they got their truck stuck on terrible ice further down the block than where they ultimately found parking. They kept a smile and a good attitude all day long, despite the fact that our move took all day. They even helped carry a material delivery that we received while they were hauling stuff back and forth. Overall, these guys are like a $$$ in terms of their rate, but the quality you get is 5 stars hands down. The capped estimate eases any concerns you might have about BS moving guys games you hear about in NYC. There won't ever be a "It costs extra to go up that flight of stairs." As a person who prizes honorable straightforward business, I can't endorse these guys enough. You tell them everything up front, and they stand by their estimate. In a span of two months Julie and her team assisted me with two moves - one from midtown to the quiet of coastal CT, the other from East Hampton to my new city apt. Shea is, to put it bluntly, the best business I've encountered in the city. Not the best moving business: the best business, period. I've done two moves with them, one involving a period of storage, and they were terrific in the care they took at every step, from the estimate to the packing process to the move itself. Shea Moving was highly recommended to me by my sister who used them in Oct. 15, for a move from Queens to Manhattan. I was moving on 6/24/16 also from Queens to Manhattan so I gave them a call. I spoke to Julie who was so very nice, patient, and professional. I had not used movers in over 20 years so I was a little surprised at the price of the estimate that Julie quoted me.I did feel very comfortable with her, though. I called 3 other moving companies, and their estimates were a little bit lower, but they were also estimating less time for the move. I was very leery that if the move took more time that their would be extra charges at the end. I really did not feel comfortable with the people that I spoke to. I went with my gut, and called Julie back who gave me a flat price estimate for a 7 1/2 move. I am pretty easily stressed, but going with my gut, and hiring Shea Movers, I was so calm about the upcoming move. I attribute this to Julie, Who I will just say again is so nice. On the day of the move, the 3 movers who came were on time and really nice. They were careful, fast, and efficient, and I had like zero stress, I was so comfortable with them. The total move only took 6 1/2 hours so Julie did not hold me to the 7 1/2 hour flat rate. She only charged me for the 6 1/2 hours. I tipped the movers well. They deserved it!. I should have reviewed Shea a year ago before moving to CA. While living in NYC, we used Shea 4-5 times for personal and business moves. I have moved far too many times for reasons beyond my control and had experience with a variety of moving companies from local to cross-country. I could write paragraphs and paragraphs, but I'll try to limit myself! I completely agree with a prior reviewer who stated that this is the best business in NYC. I think we can all agree that moving is a dreaded experience, not just the act of moving but the fear of being exploited. You will *never* have to worry about the latter with Shea and they make the former as painless as possible. Brian consistently comes in as the lowest estimate, and even if he technically loses money after his costs, he never mentions it to you or takes it from his employees. I only know of it from getting to know an employee of his. I try to compensate for this by tipping generously which Brian and the whole crew deserve. I have had an occasional item damaged. I have had the occasional box poorly labeled or packed. But I have never cared because Brian is always 100% willing to compensate you if you ask, always honestly acknowledges mistakes, and rarely actually has an issue. He is a true gem and a perfect example of excellent service in the moving industry -- never argues, threatens, denies, or accuses. He solves and he does it politely and calmly. I have found lots of movers have good, perhaps excellent crews, but it is hard to find a mover with excellent customer service too. Just for further reference, I have had Shea do full packing, moving with and without elevators, and full unpacking. Truly a top notch organization and I hope I find a similar entity for our next CA move. My only hope is that they stop recommending the other moving company I reviewed for cross country moves -- Shea, you are in a whole different league! read more

I called this company to arrange my moving from Manhattan to upstate NY. We briefly discussed the destination and they told me that they would take the job since it was within their 250 miles range. We agreed to move forward and schedule an onsite estimate. They only had availability to visit me two weeks later but i agreed since i was impressed by the number of positive reviews they had here; i thought it was worth the waiting. We scheduled the visit for a Saturday 9am. The Friday before, at 7;30pm, they called me on my cell. I was not able to pick it up so they left a voice mail canceling the onsite estimate because they had discussed the job and due to the fact that the move was not within their range they were not interested on it anymore. As mentioned before the move was within their range, otherwise why they would have scheduled the onsite estimate at the first place? They canceled on me just like that. I am a lucky guy because i still have time to find a more professional company to take on the job. Obviously I dont know anything about the quality of their moving service but most definitely their work ethic is not up to par. read more

I moved in early April from Little Neck to Jackson Heights. I asked around for recommendations and researched companies. Many movers seemed untrustworthy or had shady practices like making the client responsible for parking tickets. Someone suggested Shea because they were familiar with the building and local to the neighborhood. What a find! They arrived on time, were very friendly and hard working. There was no time wasted. They wrapped furniture and loaded the truck without taking a break and they got from point A to B in record time. The entire move was significantly less expensive than anticipated. Nothing was damaged but some small shelves were left behind on the truck and a call to Julie was all it took to have them delivered promptly the next day. The entire experience was flawless from contacting them to get an estimate, to getting the coop paperwork submitted, to the actual move (which was in the rain). I cannot thing of a negative thing to say, they were just GREAT! read more
