These guys did a great job! They moved my bf and I from Astoria to Brooklyn. The whole team was efficient and polite (including putting up with my chatty and "supervisory" dad). All three movers respected our requests on the few boxes marked "fragile" or "do not stack". Every furnishing and dish arrived complete and unscratched. It was impressive how well they worked together. They completed our move in less time then estimated, so we even came in under budget. We especially liked their careful wrapping of our heirloom dressers, full-length mirror, and grandmother clock. Shea Moving came highly recommended from a good friend. So, combined with the other stellar reviews, I decided to hire them for my move. I cannot recommend them highly enough. The owner, Julie, is incredibly kind, fair, responsive and compassionate. And she used to be an artist for the now classic Celebrity Deathmatch, so add "cool" to the list of complimentary adjectives. Our move was a bit more complicated than the average move: I had to move things from my rental and my wife from her co-op (we married a few years ago and maintained our places until we found a condo) into a condo in another state. I had my things picked up on a Monday and asked if they could be stored on the truck until the next day - the day we picked up the items from my wife's co-op and moved everything to our new condo. She was absolutely fine with this and my mind was eased from the start. She provided an estimate which was more than reasonable. The crew she sent was so efficient and quick, that they actually finished under the estimated time of the job. This was important because the rules of the condo where I was moving only allowed movers to work until 4:30. As will happen from time to time, one of my items was damaged during the move. But Julie was there every step of the way and she made it right. This is an extremely well-run business with an owner who is truly responsible and professional. I can't say that about any of the other movers I've used in the past where the owners had to be parolees of some sort and I was made to feel all victim-y and dirty and left with a bad taste in my mouth and a hole in my wallet. So yeah, I moved again on May 22. And I called Shea Moving again. Just like the first time three years ago, Julie (and Ann) were friendly, responsive and helpful, and the team showed up on time, worked hard, worked fast, and were as awesome as your own friends would be if they helped you move. They take your bed apart and put it back together. They place your furniture and rugs where you want them. They don't just randomly dump your crap wherever. They wrap everything carefully. They do everything your old movers did not. After they left, I noticed two full length mirrors--probably placed somewhere safe on the truck as not to break them--were missing. I called the office and got an immediate response. I then got a call from the foreman (I wish I could remember his name, he's amazing) that they had my mirrors and he'd drop them off. Then when he showed up, he helped me fix a wardrobe that the cable installer had broken in the interim. Tip well, and provide water, sports drinks and a hearty lunch. They deserve that and more, because as all New Yorkers know, good movers are hard to find. I've had moving companies break stuff, steal stuff, overcharge and drag jobs out to make more money. Facing knee surgery this year, living on the 4th floor, no elevator I had to hire a mover. This is my 12th move and did all the other ones with friends, beer and food. Long story short I was frantically searching for movers for my sister looking to move from queens to Brooklyn on extremely short notice. Julie was extremely efficient professional helpful in making this happen with no detail left out . She sent me an email which reviewed all the items we discussed on the phone and the rates ($170/hr for 3 movers required minimum of 4 hours). Nothing was a surprise and she made every aspect as easygoing and stress free as possible! Look no further - I already did. Just call Shea Moving and be done with the worry and frustration. First - I lived in a 5 story walk up - 67 crooked, crazy stairs and turns. Second - parking was on the Bowery at a bus stop and I needed well over a 12foot truck. Third - I have well more than my share of heavy antique iron étagères, shelving, bed frames, and other impossibly tall, unwieldy items. THEY NEVER BLINKED....or complained. Shea showed up the next day to quote. I wish I had accepted their quote for packing - it was very fair and would have saved me so much time and energy in the long run. I added to their misery the day of the move mixing bunko boxes, regular boxes, picture frames I could not pack and concerns over stereo equipment. These guys were amazing. They emptied my apartment tying 4-6 boxes at a time onto their back and marching up and down the stairs like they were on an escalator or a mission. Save furniture, they emptied 1300 sq feet in less than an hour! They never complained, were all in a good mood, even after they were done and I realized they hadn't taken down the W/D, that went down the stairs in 10 minutes - no grumbling. On the delivery end, they reassembled my bed, put all boxes in the rooms I wanted, took away ALL garbage and extra wardrobes. Did I mention - NOTHING was broken? Please - give them lunch and good food. These guys want bananas, water and gatoraid, not donuts. I am no longer afraid to move and when I do decide to - it will be Shea Moving that handles my move - beginning to end. read more

Extremely happy with Julie's company. I first checked flatrate and schleppers, their rates were outrageous for what we required. I emailed Julie with my details, the flat rate I was given by her was also fairly high but it was for 7 hours which I knew was way more than we needed based on the last time we moved. We agreed to go with an hourly rate and she was very flexible about it, I figured we'd need 4-5 hours total. On moving day, her movers got there an hour early. Once the move started the guys were super fast. After 3.75 hours they were done with what we needed, and the cost ended up being half of the initial rates we got. Thanks to Julie and her guys. I can't even begin to explain just how amazing Brian, Julie and their team is. I have one of the narrowest stairways on the planet and extremely valuable fragile antique furniture. Brian takes extraordinary care to make sure every pice of furniture is wrapped to perfection. Melvin on the truck makes certain that nothing is going to move. When we opened the truck door after driving 800+ miles...EVERYTHING was just as it had been packed. My mom has moved 23 times and cannot believe how incredible this team of people are. After looking through several websites and being scared by all the horror stories people have written about various moving companies, we decided to try Shea moving based on recommendations on this website as well as movingscam.com (great website btw). We were not disappointed. The process was very smooth, we got a capped estimate and were indicated that the move may be cheaper if it went faster than planned, but would never be more expensive. In the end we paid exactly the amount foreseen. Everybody we talked to or saw at Shea was very nice and helpful, both in the office and the movers. We moved from Manhattan (UES, doorman building) to Astoria with Shea, and had a fantastic experience. I found Shea on Yelp, liked their reviews, and asked for an estimate. Brian, the co-owner, stopped by, had great advice and tips on preparing for the move, and gave us a realistic and competitive bid. We picked Shea. From pick-up to unloading, they were professional, organized and efficient. We asked Shea to pack several large framed pictures, TV, etc. They did so with care, and everything arrived without a scratch. I give Shea the highest recommendation. The price estimate was accurate and, in fact, the actual charges were a bit less. I'd use Shea again without hesitation. I've moved a number of times though I must say this was the best moving experience I've had before. Brian Shea came and made an estimate beforehand which ultimately slightly reduced the total when it came time for the move (since it was capped by his estimate) which was nice. As for their care and expertise in moving items, they seemed to have special experience in safely wrapping pieces of art and glass such that nothing at all broke during the process (though I did purchase some supplemental insurance from them just in case though I did not need to use it at all). Unlike the other movers I've used in the past, I look forward to using them when I move next time. As an extra note, they are experienced in moving juggle boxes though I suggest to readers to ONLY use juggle boxes if you are moving between elevator buildings as those are very difficult to move up and down stairs but are alternatively perfectly easy to move up and down elevators read more

Shea Moving packed and moved us from Hoboken to NYC. The total price came out under the cap price quoted by Brian and the entire experience was amazing. They arrived on Monday during a snow storm and packed the majority of the apartment. On Tuesday, moving day, they added one person to pack the rest of our apartment and everything was loaded on the truck in 2.5 hours. Unfortunately, the truck broke down (dead battery) at our place in NJ but they sent out emergency roadside service. To make up for the time, Julie Shea sent one more person to get us unloaded and set-up in 2 hours. When we unpacked, nothing was damaged or even chipped. I have moved locally to/from the city, across the country, and internationally and I have never had the high level of service I received from Shea Moving. We had Shea move our one bedroom apartment (4th floor walkup) into storage in Brooklyn recently. I simply cannot say enough good things about these guys. They were courteous, efficient, and very good at their jobs. When the storage place threw us for a loop and could only provide a unit that was a gigantic hassle to move into, they did not complain, and quickly put together an assembly line that handled the task with ease. Brian, the owner, and his crew, including funny Johnny, were great. My move was set up over the phone by Julie, Brian's wife. Brian was the main person to stay in the house and wrap furniture. The other guys were all great, personable, friendly, and hardworking. Brian is so fun to talk with and you can just tell he's a really good person. Excellent! I moved this past Saturday from Fresh Meadows to Douglaston in Queens. I picked Shea Moving based on a recommendation, Yelp reviews and Angie's List. The reviews are right on. Four guys showed up with one guy kind of running the show. They were all great especially the leader of the group. They assessed everything and went right to work. They were professional, hard working, organized and fast. The little things they did were greatly appreciated. Like pointing out damaged stuff before they moved it, taking apart some things like a table and a tv wall mount and taping boxes properly. They did a lot of extra stuff that I didn't expect. The price was extremely fair and all was included except tips. It was recommended tipping between 15-20%. They were so great that even though there are so many additional expenses when moving I had to give them 20%. Worth every penny! read more

Shea Moving was recommended by a mom in a UES Moms Group post, and after I did some research and got some quotes, I decided to go with them. I just gave birth to my baby No. 2 six weeks before moving and I have one 2 year old and two old Chinese grandparents who don't speak English to move with us, so I wanted the move to go as smooth and fast as possible. Their quote was 100 plus dollars more expensive than the other quotes I got. But this was the only real fixed rate I got. They would cover parking bills and unexpected traffic jam without charging extra. It was a small family business, and I sensed they had better quality control than other big moving companies who might have a few bad service experiences and I didn't want to risk to be one of the stats. Hence I was happy to pay a little over to have a more guaranteed good service. And my judgement turned out to be correct and I'm really really happy that I went with them, and would definitely hire them again for moving. They made the move so easy; we even had time to have a two-hour lunch break inbetween and finished my move from Upper East Side to Jersey City within 7 hours (including the lunch break). During the process, I just breastfed my newborn and watched my toddler run around and supervised the move without any stress. FYI I did packed everything beforehand except the furniture. read more
