I am so upset with how we were treated this evening. After paying $41 for dinner we got our plates our 2 year old starting throwing up. The manager did say she gave an exception and let us put our plates in to go boxes but would not let us get dessert or anything. They watched us like a hawk and made sure we only put what we had on our plates. There were 4 of us and they gave us 3 to go boxes. I called back and spoke with the manager to see if there was anyway we could come back another night and she said no that they made an exception for us by letting us take our food home. So basically we paid $41 to eat at a buffet where we got a small plate and nothing else. We will never go back!!! They must need the money more than we do. read more

The best BBQ spot in South Carolina, and well worth the drive from anywhere, Shealy's is a must go to for great food. Most buffers have prime times to go but Shealy's is just always great! The food is always fresh, hot, and has that perfect country seasoning and taste. It is like an endless supply of everything good you ever at at Grandma's House, including the banana pudding. If the buffet scene isn't for you with country family seating, they do have to go orders available too. Their rice and gravy is so great, my wife and I typically get an order of it to go after we have stuffed ourselves silly in the buffet. I grew up in Leesville so Shealys was where my family went when we ate out. However, since moving to the other side of Lexington we dont make it to Leesville often. So when I get the chance to eat Shealys I get super excited! I love the buffet. It has fried chicken, pulled pork, green beans, rice and gravy just to name a few of my favorite things! The price of the buffet includes your drink and will run you about $12 to $13. There are no designated tables so its always interesting to see who you end up sitting next to and what dinner conversation you will have. If you decide you loved the food so much you can also get take out! Make a trip to Leesville and go try Shealys! read more

Always a favorite! I grew up in South Carolina with real southern barbecue, and Shealy's in Batesburg is some of the best you can get. From the southern fried chicken and barbecue, to all of the sides like green beans, cole slaw, Lima beans, potato salad, cream corn, pasta salad, rice and milk gravy, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, cabbage, rolls and house made bread and butter pickles, you can't go wrong with any of the choices along with a glass if sweet iced tea. South Carolina is also super cool because most of the BBQ places serve all three sauces, vinegar, mustard and tomato based. Shealy's is no exception. My favorite, of course, is their rice and South Carolina hash. Since moving to Georgia, that is one thing I've truly missed that you can't find anywhere but in South Carolina. SOOOO DELICIOUS!!! Pretty decent. The chicken was good, look for the 'Pulley Bones', the wishbone and meat. Very delicious! Friday is rib night. Ribs were pretty good, a bit dry, the sauce was pretty good though. Everyone around Columbia swears by this place and it's good but in my opinion not worth the drive from Columbia. It might be that I am not a native South Carolinian so some of the food on the buffet seemed a bit foreign to me. The BBQ was good and the selection was decent. I really liked the fried chicken. My absolute favorite item was the Mac and cheese. It had a good flavor and equally good (albeit unconventional) texture. My least favorite item was the peach cobbler. So would I go there again? Doubtful. However, if you are native to this state, you might find more to like than I did so I can't say I don't recommend it. read more

We were out having family photos done in a town nearby and checked Google for a place to eat that was on the way home. I was excited to see Shealy's as an option as I had heard so much about this South Carolina staple and really wanted to try it. Our family of four arrived on a Saturday evening. They seem to have lots of parking, but this place is very popular so arrive early to secure a spot. The line process is unique. There is a queue set up inside the entrance that leads to a hand washing station, the cashier to pay for your meals and eventually puts you right in line at the buffet. The only thing I didn't care for was having to carry my bag through the buffet line. Would have preferred to be seated first, but not really a big deal. The food was very good. My favorite was the barbecue with hickory sauce. The tables are set in long rows, so you will likely sit next to other families at the same table. An older couple was seated next to us and were enjoyable and charming. Service was friendly and our cups were kept full. All in all we had a pretty good experience here and would eat again if we are ever in the area. When we left, the line was VERY long, so get there early! read more

Best BBQ in town? I think not!! people drive from all around to eat at This restaurant. My girl friend and I were no exception as we wanted eat somewhere nice on our way back from vacation. To start off, the green beans were obviously from a can, the hash was not only missing seasoning but it was way to watered down, and the mash potatoes were lacking butter and seasoning. The vinegar based BBQ was terrible, the mustard based BBQ( the most preferred item) was lacking heat. Overall the food was mediocre, I would have given it a 3 star rating, but in the middle of my meal I found a big ass black nasty fly in my unsweetened tea and gave the establishment a 2 star rating instead. So before columbians go out of their way to eat good BBQ, I suggest mid-wood smokehouse or even Hudson's smokehouse. read more

Visiting family in South Carolina this weekend and were told of the best barbecue in the state, so we traveled over an hour and arrived at Shealy's at 6pm to lines that wrapped around the building. The line moved along and it took about 45 minutes to get through the door. The price was surprising at $12.48 person for the all you can eat buffet. We soon discovered why it was so inexpensive. This was by far among the worst buffets for selection, quality, presentation, and taste. Trays were filled with Lima beans, creamed corned, canned string beans, baked beans, mac and cheese for the sides, none homemade and all over cooked. The main dishes were pulled chicken and pulled pork, indistinguishable for one another, overcooked tasteless brisket, fried chicken (edible), fried chicken livers and gizzards. No ribs!!!! At a barbecue place? Given what other things were like, probably no loss. As for dessert, who knew Cool Whip could be transformed into so many awful tasting desserts? And peach cobbler with canned peaches in peach country? They should be embarrassed. The reason for the one star is the drink servers who were really nice and accommodating. This doesn't bode well for SC if this is what they call the best barbecue. read more

Shealy's is one of the worst restaurants i've ever had. I got shealys catered to my school and it was bad. All of my classmates agree. I got chicken and it was undercooked, the rice was decent but when i ordered banana pudding it was disgusting. when i got a bottle of water it tasted expired. My goodness, this place really has their system down pat. I should mention that I love efficiency. I love that they have a separate window entirely for their to-go orders. Walked in the wrong entrance and the cashier politely directed me around the side of the shop. I have been meaning to try this place for a long time but we are always in a rush to get home and never try it. On my way back from Ohio this time, I decided I was going to make the drive! Even after eight hours of driving. It was worth it. Got two pulled pork meals with three veggies and a bag of pork rinds for a little over $17. That's a steal, folks. That being said, it was not on my way home. At all. If I make this trip again, it will not be with an impatient pup in the car or after eight hours of driving. I will probably combine with a trip to the Big Mo Drive-In. The mac & cheese was delicious, but the green beans were forgettable. I actually enjoyed the mustard-based pulled pork and would order it again, but may try a different meat next time. I can't believe the high reviews. Sure, it is well known. This place gets 5-stars for the zillions of items on their buffet. Unfortunately, quantity does not necessarily equate to quality. I have tried their pulled pork, hash, chicken, and many sides. Nothing was very good. Dry meat, over-salted sides. Do yourself a favor and go to Jackie Hite's a few blocks away. I can't believe some of the reviews. I have had QUE all over the south, and Shealy's ranks with the best. I've sampled QUE from Gum, MS. Birmingham, AL. Little Rock,AR. Memphis and Nashville. Shealy's puts out consistently the best. Going to Shealy's isn't just going out for a meal. Its truly an experience. Its waiting in line for 25 minutes around the building. Washing your hands before you get your ticket. Walking down the entire buffett looking at everything that looks sooo good. Pulley bones, mustard sauce, and sweet tea. I grew up eating here. I love there food it is truly the best place in SC for BBQ. I wish I could say the same for the service. Normally busy or not the service is outstanding. For people that have never eaten here this place is always packed. Today my service sucked. We had to ask for drinks and then our waitress was standing at the drinks playing in her hair, taking it down running hands through her hair. Bad part is it was really not that busy. She could clearly see us from where she was but my husband had to ask again for a refill. The other ladies around her that where older where doing circles around her. That is so not cool. So for the girl with the red hair a little advice in food you do not play with your hair and then serve your guest. You could have at leading washed your hands. read more

I live in Leesville and I'm sorry to say I'm not impressed. Though, I will admit I'm not a native. The food is served buffet style and reasonably priced, I've never left hungry, but the food is not impressive. After you've eaten their a few times the lack of variety lessens your desire to return. The decor leaves a lot to be desired, it reminds me of my middle school cafeteria with long tables seating many people. Can't say I enjoy eating with people I don't know. I had more privacy eating in the mess deck on a submarine, at least then I only shared the table with three other men and I always knew my crew mates. All in all, I'd have to say the experience feels more like strapping on a feed bucket for the sake of filling my stomach than a pleasurable dining experience. I ate here a few weeks ago with my daddy and his cousins. I hadn't eaten here since I was like 10 or maybe younger. My daddy grew up around here and I wanted to eat here when him and I took a trip back to his hometown. It was great!! Everything I had was very well cooked and was seasoned just right (at least to me). I really enjoyed the veggies. I'm not a big meat eater but I did have the BBQ and fried chicken. I wanted to taste everything. My favorites were the lima beans and the collards. The lima beans weren't too over cooked either they were just right and I like the taste of the collards. I always leave Shealy's satisfied. They offer an enormous amount of food every night, including specials on certain nights. Their barbeque is the best I've ever had, some may disagree. This place is one of those you either love it or hate it type restaurants. I am a fan personally. I like the choices on the buffet and I feel they have a little bit of everything. When it comes to BBQ everyone has different likes and dislikes. I would recommend that you at least give this place a try once.
