The food was decent given that it's a buffet. The fried chicken was delicious, but the rest of the food was just alright. Service was prompt since when I'm done eating on a plate, they cleared it out pretty quickly. On the bright side, it was busy when I went in there so food was never lukewarm, and the value of the meal is better than most fast food joints these days with inflation.

I don't normally go around giving 5 stars for a buffet place, but I just did! Maybe because bad service seems to be the norm nowadays(I bartended/waitressed for 20 yrs and it drives me nuts!)and I would rather stay home most times. But the service I got on this particular day(Saturday 1:00) was excellent. I always order water to drink. My cup never had a chance to get low. Our server checked on us several times and took our used plates away when she did. She stayed moving and we kept her busy. It is a buffet after all! But let me back up for a minute. This place wasn't anything near what I thought we were going to eat. My cousin came to visit from ATL and I don't remember ever going to a buffet with her. She mostly likes fancy places or fusion for fun. So I was running behind schedule and told her while she was waiting, she could pick any place she wants. I was shocked when she said BJ's buffet. Because I love buffets. I always have and I always will. I was thrilled because I've never been and I've heard good things. I must've tried 95% of what they had to offer. Just a little bit of everything. OMG the fried chicken was the best! Everything about our visit to BJ's was above average. Even pulling up to a line of customers out of the door. At first, you think you'll be waiting forever, but it only took a few minutes. We actually made friends with the people waiting before us. Everyone and everything was just perfect. You don't get too many days like this. Well worth $15

"I love the food and the waitresses. I've been coming here since I was pregnant with my son, and the staff is always so nice. They even remember our drink orders. Highly recommend!"

Return trip here and it was great again. A full parking lot always is a good sign. Pay your way in and eat your way out. Ample selections of fresh made vegetables and a good selection of meats and even fried catfish too. Salad bar awesome with the standard toppings plus delicious chicken, potato and pasta salads... dessert bar too with fresh fruit and peach cobbler on the hot bar. A fav of mine pistachio fluff was on there too for the win!! When you need a fix of comfort food head over to the old Shoney's building in North Augusta.

But South Carolina has the best BBQ of all the southern states when you can find the right stuff. BBQ Barn is the right stuff. They've got pulled pork with quality sauces, hash similar to what I make myself (therefore excellent), delicious southern sides, sweet (and unsweet) tea, various other meats (their burnt ends are yum!) and some desserts that look great but I haven't tried yet. They also aren't a buffet style restaurant which is a great thing in my opinion. They have a good amount of seating but I don't think they'll fit lots of large groups so keep that in mind. They do have a drive thru and you can order food to go. Unfortunately, they are also like other good BBQ places in their limited hours; they are only open Wednesday-Saturday each week so they can't be Sunday dinner or Monday emergency dinner unless you plan well ahead. The staff are nice and the restaurant is always clean enough. When we aren't making our own barbecue, we are probably getting barbecue from BBQ Barn (or the only other good bbq spot in the CSRA).

My first two visits were only 24 hours apart because it was so good. This time I experienced the same delicious food and quick service. I am impressed by the quality of the food (so fresh) and how kind everyone is here. I like to ask what they recommend, because the desserts change and the cashier was sweet and indulged my questions. I also can't speak highly enough if the sauces. I am a big fan of the spicy georgia red bbq sauce. The gold is also great, just a mustard flavor. I'm tempted to buy a bottle the next time I visit. My recommendation - Come visit on a warm day. Order a platter of food (2 meats will give you plenty of leftovers) and a slice of cake. Sit at the outside tables and enjoy. There are fans outside if it's too warm.

First things first... the hostess Lyne set the tone immediately. Personable, funny, and quick-witted. She picked up on my husband's "I like to cause a little trouble just because I can" energy within seconds. Without missing a beat she said, "Listen... we're going to put him in time out right there." Another guest nearby started chuckling and I knew right then we were in good hands. Our waitress Kim was just as amazing. Attentive without hovering, friendly, and she kept checking on us to make sure we were good and boxed up once we tapped out. Now let's talk about the food... whew chile. I ordered the Lady Killer and let me tell you... it absolutely understood the assignment. Whatever magic was happening in that kitchen... keep doing it. The salad was huge. I only made it a few bites before I had to surrender. The rest went upstairs with me because wasting food is not in my ministry. And the cocktail... round of applause... smooth, balanced, and pretty enough to make you pause before the first sip. All in all... great energy, great service, and food that delivered. The manager walked around inquiring about the service given. Someone mentioned they weren't happy about their food and she appeared genuinely concerned as she further asked questions and how to take care of the matter. I was impressed. For me it's the small things like this that'll guarantee me being repeat... Separate review for the hotel itself coming up!...

My wife got the black eyed peas jambalaya and two of us got catfish platters, one fried and one blackened. My daughter's blackened catfish was very salty. Our fries were very salty but good. My catfish, fried, was excellent. I would have liked to give a 3.5 but couldn't and my fish was so good I just couldn't give a 3. I'd eat here again but only fried catfish for me. I could see myself eating here at least once a month. There is plenty of parking. I'm not sure why it's called "at the river" bc I didn't see a river. There is inside and an outside enclosed area for seating when you enter from the parking lot. It is decorated like a casual bar and grill. My server was in training but friendly and worked alongside his trainer head server. For beverages, I ordered the oyster shooter and that Bloody Mary did not disappoint. I also had a Black Raspberry Margarita. This seems to be a thing in Augusta for Margaritas as well as this was the 2nd restaurant I went to and had this. The other place was better though. But let's talk about the food! The catfish was super tasty. They gave me fries although I didn't order them, and of course I still ate them. I had a side of baked potato salad. I should've asked why they're baked, but that was just okay. I had the TASTE OF BEAMIES- chicken & shrimp gumbo, black eyed pea jambalaya, shrimp and grits, my fav's in order were the chicken and shrimp gumbo, the shrimp and grits, then the black eyed pea jambalaya. I also ordered the 1/2 dozen Rockefeller oysters and they were amazing. The hush puppies that came with them were just okay. Overall, I enjoyed this meal.
