I came here with a friend who had an appointment for her hair. She is really particular about her hair and would only go to certain places. I don't remember who her stylist was, but she said that she trusted her and wouldn't let anyone else touch her hair. My friend came in for a haircut. I was there kind of hanging out until she was done so we could go grab lunch after. My friend's stylist was really nice and she did a good job on her haircut. She did exactly as my friend wanted, so I can see why she trusted her. The salon isn't very big, but it's cozy and cute. The location isn't bad either, there's plenty of shopping right down the street. She cut her hair and styled it, but since my friend had thin hair it didn't take long at all. We were happily on our way to get some lunch. I would go back to this salon for a haircut myself. It was clean, pretty quiet and the results were great too. read more

I recently went to Alma for the first time on the raving recommendation of a friend I trust who always looks amazing and has been going to her for 20+years. Unsurprisingly, Alma lived up to every word of the hype--and more! Not only is Alma a sweet, genuine person who makes you feel completely comfortable and at ease right away, she has AMAZING vision, talent and skills. Right away she assessed what I needed and knew just what to do: the new French balayage highlights. I had read about them online but had no idea they would be offered in Palm Desert. I let her have at it and,,, WOW,,, what a difference!! I went in expecting a simple root touch-up that wouldn't be very dramatic to coming out feeling like I had received a complete hair makeover!!! I couldn't believe the beautiful and varied shades of blonde she added that finally make me love my hair again like I used to in high school. : ) And since I am growing my hair out, Alma didn't push me to cut it since I didn't want to. She kindly offered to trim any ends she saw but said it was in great shape and even complimented my cut (which was done in the OC where I used to live). What a class act she is! Top notch service, professional stylists with years of expertise, you'll be in good hands! I travel a lot and have been trying to find a little hair dryer that doesn't take up too much space but still does a good job and isn't too bad for my hair. I got the Amika mini dryer from Alma and I'm shocked how amazing it is! It literally dries my hair quicker than my regular-sized dryer at home and I have long hair. The best part though, is that my hair is softer, less frizzy and feels healthier with this little dryer. I get highlights and so my hair can be dry and break easily and drying my hair at home is never as good as a blow-out at the salon. But this Amika dryer is giving me great results and I can't recommend it enough! Also, it's adorable with a fun print, diffuser and carrying case, and has dual voltage for international travel. read more

I met ZILPA at another location and followed her to this salon, boy am I SO happy that I did! I had never had my eye brows waxed before, nor did I think I needed to get them waxed. Zilpa helped point out where my brow should start/end and a shape that would compliment me. After the first Brow wax I was hooked! I also use to get my lashes done at a different salon, once Zilpa told me she did extensions also, I couldn't have been more happy! Who doesn't love a one stop shop to get your brows AND lashes done?! Zilpa is now my go to for BROWS AND LASH EXTENSIONS! The lashes are light and feather and look so natural. I have received so many compliments on my lashes and Amit of people think they are my real lashes, which is a plus! Went to Shear Hair Design for the first time this past Saturday. What a beautiful salon! I was there to have Peeter blow dry and style my hair. Since it was my high school reunion that night, I had to be sure I could trust the person doing my hair. I met Peeter at a different salon but found he works here part time. Shear Hair is very clean and inviting. It's convenient location has parking in the back and front. I highly recommend this hair salon and will be back soon for a blow dry. I can't say enough about how amazing my experiences have been at Shear Hair Design. Alma has been doing my hair and she makes it look beyond beautiful every time, my hair is very very difficult it is frizzy and kinky and natural curly all at once, I have never ever had a decent hair cut from anywhere in the valley, mostly because the stylist don't know how to cut this type of hair to get it to lay properly. I told Alma the process I go through everyday to get my hair somewhat presentable it takes me at least 2 hours. Alma did a Brazilian Blow, she said it would be life changing and she was sure right, now I spend maybe 15 mins my hair lays perfectly with bounce and body but no frizz at all, it looks likes its been professionally styled each time, and where ever I go I get complements. Went to shear hair because I drove by it everyday and was intrigued to stop by. I'm So glad I did ! I was taken care of by Maria I just needed my bangs cut and colored. Usually I try to save my money and not spend a lot but I paid what I pay usually at any other place. She didn't just know what I wanted and proceeded she listened and guided me through what she was doing. The end result was better than I could have imagined and I got so many compliments! I just moved here from Ventura and made an appointment to get my cut/style. When I made the appointment, I emphasized to the receptionist that I was looking for someone who was very good cutting men's hair and up-to-speed on current trends. She booked me with Alma. When I arrived, I noticed that she is in her 60's so I asked again if she knew all the new men's styles and she assured me that she did. I arrived on time for my appointment but had to wait for 45 minutes to get my cut. I believe she accepted a walk-in or regular customer. I even had photos of the style that I wanted and all said and done, my hair cut was mediocre at best and uneven and not what I was hoping for. At check out she asked for $45 but the website said $35 for men's haircut. She claimed that the website wasn't updated.... The price wasn't the biggest disappointment, the haircut/style was. Although Alma seemed to be a nice lady, if you are looking for a stylish haircut, I don't recommend her. read more

The worst experience. Corrine,the appointment setter,in addition to being rude is inefficient. Alma is very slow and talks about other clients. She has lost several shadow hills customers due to bad service. A customer told me she left due to the worst haircut because Alma was talking so much to other people. My time is as valuable as Alma's but apparently Corrine & Alma don't agree. Too many other palm desert salons to choose from. I will never ret First of all I never demanded to be taken and I had to call. No one had the courtesy to call me. The women at shadow hills that referred me to you have moved on to other salons. I never said you were a bad hairdresser it was Corrine that always made it an unpleasant experience. I have moved on and am very happy. You talk about all your clients and that is very unprofessional. So get your facts straight before you post an answer Every time I came in the help changed and they all talked about you. All the good reviews are true! Visiting from out of town and would not have had any other way to find this quality salon without the help of others in the same situation. I called early on a Monday morning expecting to leave a message but the phone was answered quickly by a very friendly voice. She asked if she could put me on hold but was back on the line in just a minute to offer me an appointment with Alma, the owner. I explained the style I was looking for and she assured me I would be pleased. Pleased is only the beginning! Alma really listened to me and then got her magic working. The results were perfection! We were the only ones in the salon as it's usually closed on Mondays but Alma offered to work with my schedule. That's real service and putting the client first. I just wanted to add something to my last review I was really tired of my hair taking so much time and I asked Hillary if she could do a perm and she said "absolutely" ! she knew the exact right technique I've never been happier in my life I've taken an hour off of my day having to wash dry curl and finish my hair, I have a beautiful perm of beach waves and everybody that walks into my office raves about my hair, every single person! She really knew what she was doing my hair is soft and shiny and takes no management and really not much product I just spray it with water in the mornings to freshen the curl. I checked the website and it said the salon was open today so I called for an appointment for a hair cut and was scheduled the same day for 2:30. I have short hair and knew it would only take 30 minutes to trim my hair but set aside 45 minutes to be safe. When I arrived for my appointment, the salon was locked. I called the salon and the same woman who booked my appointment said the stylist was on her way. This was at 2:15. I looked in the window and saw someone in the salon, got her attention and she unlocked the door so I was able to sit inside and wait. At 2:35, the woman told me the stylist called and was 2 minutes away. At 2:45 I left because I had another appointment that I didn't want to be late for. I didn't want someone who was late and stressed to cut my hair in a hurry. The salon was clearly not open and the stylist called in wasn't available at the time scheduled.
