I had my first experience with Agape Salon & Spa today! With word that salons were reopening after the Covid closures I quickly got on Yelp to find out what salons were highly rated in Rancho Mirage. I'm new to the area so I'm relying heavily on Yelp to establish my new favorite places out in the desert! Agape Salon & Spa came highly rated. I called, left a message and a few hours later heard back from Ismael. Ismael explained given the recent lift of the Covid closures, they were FULLY BOOKED but he'd be happy to take my name and number and offer the first cancellation to me. I was OVERJOYED when the following day Ismael called and offered me an appointment first thing in the morning the following day! I showed up a few minutes early and found Ismael's smiling face at the reception desk. He explained all of the Covid measures that we would be taking. He asked me to please sanitize my hands, took my temperature, put my belongings in a plastic bag, and provided me with a new face mask to wear. In addition to this I was asked to fill out a form asking various Covid related questions. All of this made me feel very sure I'd be safe while having my services. I was shown to the station and I was introduced to Felipe. We had a consultation where we talked about what I wanted to achieve. Basically I have waist-length brown colored hair with what was an almost 3-inch growth of grey. Additionally, my ends were in bad shape. So, we agreed on a hair color and cut and we were off to the races! Felipe applied my color, suggested adding a deep conditioning treatment (which we did), gave me an AMAZING scalp and neck massage, cut, and blew out my hair to PERFECTION! I've had dozens of hair dressers in my lifetime and Felipe has "the" gift... the gift of almost being at one with his art of hair styling. I watched as Felipe studied my hair in choosing a color, the way he separated my hair to color it, the way he washed, cut, and styled it... he did it all with confidence and intention. This comes from not only skill, but talent. I'm blessed to have found Felipe! So, we know Felipe can color, wash, cut, and style the heck outta my hair... wait for it... wait for it... he does make-up too! Yep, he's a one-man glam squad! While I was there he was kind enough to help me pick a eye-brow pencil and squeezed me in before his next client to clean-up by eye-brows! Would not recommend. In the back of a dark, older strip mall with no windows. Expensive, but not all stylists seem well versed in cuts or color. I spent several hundred dollars here and was given a color that was so dark, my friends and family thought it was a mistake. I looked like a ghost! I asked them politely if they would correct it and booked something to have them look at it. I ended up missing that appt because my 17 1/2 year old dog passed away and I completely missed the time. I reached out the same day and apologized and rescheduled, but they cancelled that appt and were not at all nice about it. Look at the other reviews and you'll see the disparaging remarks from the owner. I think he doesn't want to give refunds or redo when there's a problem. Again, would not recommend. read more

The salon inside the Atrium is calming. I was immediately greeted by name and taken back to Jada who asked me a few questions about what type of cut I wanted. After a shampoo, scalp massage and hand massage, I was completely relaxed and ready for my haircut which turned out exactly as I had hoped. One of the worse haircuts I've ever had. It's only about 1 1/2 weeks since I had the haircut and my bangs are already hanging down in my eyes. All the ends of my hairs look split and are varying lengths within the same small area, making it look "frizzy". I'm sure there must be some good hair stylists at Agape, but the ones who appear to be good, charge an extraordinary fee just for a haircut. Obviously, I won't be going back to Agape. read more

I do not recommend this place & their ways of business is more like a pyramid scheme than an actual business. They charge consultation fees for dying your hair before you actually book anything. Who would do this unless they aren't confident in their work? They also charge a fee for long hair. Hair that is below your shoulders & not past your backside. This is in addition to a haircut. I arrived to a friendly staff that followed hygiene procedure (I even got a new mask to wear! ) My hair stylist, Christine, was friendly and truly engaged with what I was seeking for my hair. My head was washed and it was the most relaxing head massage I received. I love how my long bob turned out and how she blow dryed my hair. I'm bummed the undercut style wasn't symmetrical like I had shown in my reference photo, but my hair will grow so not a huge biggie. In total, $58. This is an updated review I've been going here almost 7 years now. Angelica is the shhhh... all the girls are wonderful but Angelica is my main stylist. Getting in with her there's a wait, but with very good reason. This last haircut gave me life... even though every time she has to take more than a quarter inch off I feel like it's all my hair lol. She knows best. She's a boss at telling me realistic options for what I want done and what my long term goal with my hair is. Which is essentially keep all the length at all times. Lol can't wait for my color next appointment but for now I'll leave you with the blowout after my trim. That lasted several days! Literally just dry shampoo, flat iron my non existent "edges" from sleeping too hard and out the door I went. To add regarding COVID procedures. They're literally top notch sanitation and safety! I had to place my items in a sealed bag for the whole appointment cuz duh.. cross contamination. Was given a fresh clean cape, my temp was taken and was told not to come into the salon if I was feeling ANY symptoms. There was a barrier between the stations, and a total of 5 people. That I saw. I went to this salon to get my hair layered. I was lucky enough to get Angelica Lopez. I was pleased to see that new clients fill out a paper describing what we would like done with our hair that day and how we normally like to style it. When I sat in the chair she sat with me and looked at the paper and confirmed what I wanted and asked me more questions about what I was looking for. I can't explain how much I appreciated her sitting with me and having a conversation first before touching my hair. Often times when I go into a salon, they have me sit in the chair and they immediately run their hands through my hair and while they're asking me what I want, I feel like they've already made up their mind about what they're going to do. But not this stylist. She definitely made me feel heard and understood. Thank you!! Then we moved to washing it which was so relaxing. I didn't realize they massage your scalp during this! Right then I was like 5 STARS! Lol. She communicated and took her time. I didn't feel rushed at all. This is my first time back to Agape Salon in about 2 years. Angelica was my hair person and was fantastic, but is no longer at Agape. I selected Sara and she is FANTASTIC! I showed pictures on my phone of my hair styles likes/dislikes. She listened, she asked further questions and I am VERY pleased with my short up-to-date do. I purposely was growing my hair to donate to the Cancer society. Both Sara and Ana were supportive and made my donation happen, by handling the details on their end. Back to Sara, very lovely, offering suggestions and her thoughts on my haircut. I especially appreciated her paying attention (and working with) my cowlick. Agape love is higher than all love. I read the Yelp reviews and called. It was suggested that I come in for a consultation before an appointment was scheduled. good idea. Here's the problem; I ended up having to cancel 2 consultations. MY BAD, I know. However, I did call ahead to cancel. When I move down here I went to the Aveda salon as I love their products and I had my haircut better than I've ever had my haircut in my life seriously! This is for a men's haircut. Having moved here a bit over a year ago, and having my hair cut by three other "stylists," I was apprehensive about trying Agape. The stylists I had tried in Cathedral City and Rancho Mirage ranged from marginally adequate to entirely incompetent. I thought I should go back to LA to get my hair cut by someone who was experienced and knew what they were doing, but took a chance based on Yelp reviews. I was very pleasantly surprised by Agape. The salon is extremely sanitary and provide their own masks to patrons. I was fortunate enough to have Ana, the owner, take care of me, and take care of me she did. She asked me what I wanted, made a couple of notes, and asked me questions. She offers decades of experience. The shampoo process was delightful, in a darkened room with calming music, a bit of aroma therapy, a neck massage, and the shampoo/conditioner. I could have forgone the haircut and just enjoyed an afternoon of the scalp and neck massage. Ana chatted amicably while she worked, but kept her focus as she cut and shaped my hair. She asked if I approved as she worked, every step of the way. In the end, I got the best haircut I've had in years. My wife was extremely impressed, and she hates everything. I'll stick with Agape and Ana. Caveat: It ain't cheap. Ask prices first. But as I get my hair cut infrequently, I'm OK paying more to have it done properly. So regretful that I chose this salon. I went in with a clear explanation of the color I wanted, and even showed Ana Lisa several photos of my platinum hair color on MY head. I stressed that my biggest concern was that she get the right color. Well, not only did it turn out so bad, I ended up with pinkish purplish hair!! She never said a word when she took off the foils, just turned my chair away from the mirror and proceeded to blow it out, knowing full well what a disaster it was! When I turned my head to look, I was shocked! To think I was afraid of a brassy color. This was pink hair!! And upon further inspection I even found patches of purple and lavender! I just don't get it. My previous hairdresser had no problem at all with my hair. I question how much experience this girl even has with color, or whether or not she's even licensed! I'm also very disappointed with the owner, Anna. I initially consulted with her, and when I realized she was way out of my price range, she referred me to Ana Lisa. The thing is, I expressed to Anna as well, that my biggest concern was the color. Why refer me to someone who clearly has little experience in color?? So upset and disappointed. To add insult to injury? Instead of accepting responsibility and apologizing, she tried to blame me. Girl, I showed you actual photos!! And FYI, my previous highlights had already grown out, so she couldn't even blame it on that. To the receptionist's credit, she was much more apologetic and offered to have it fixed at another time, however, I'm absolutely petrified to go back. **Regarding Ismael's response to my review (whom I've never met and who wasn't there): his statement is a blatant LIE. I don't know who he spoke with, but clearly he was given a slanted view. I didn't speak with anyone except Ana Lisa and the receptionist, so I'm not sure how he can say I was rude to everyone in the store. Simply not true. On the contrary, the receptionist and I had a very pleasant conversation, and as I already stated, to her credit she offered to have me come back another day to fix my hair. Pictures don't lie. I think anyone would be upset if someone did this to them AND that person didn't accept responsibility or apologize, and try to blame this on a bad consultation(???). I came from out of town and recently had surgery which has disallowed me to be able to blow dry/ style my hair for the past two weeks. As you can imagine my hair was a mess and I was not feeling my best by any means. I booked a wash and blowout with Mallory and my sister booked the same (including a haircut) with Annalise. The receptionist had warned us to be on time as to get the full experience of our spa like hair experience. The salon is located in a small shopping center so parking is ample and easy. The salon itself is also beautiful and greets you with smells of essential oils when you walk in. After being given a nice hot tea we began. The experience was u like ANY other blowout I have ever had. I would book again for the hair wash alone. The hair wash is a full Aveda experience meaning you get double washed, deep conditioning, neck, head, and hand massage. I could personally really feel that Mallory put a lot of intention and effort into making the most of my experience. I have never felt so relaxed in a hair salon. I especially loved that the wash station was dimly lit and smelled of essential oils as you were wrapped in warm hand Towels and deeply massaged and scrubbed. I made a last minute hair cut appointment with Ana and I must admit, the glowing reviews here on Yelp are speaking the whole truth and nothing but the truth. She took her time during our consult; asking me detailed questions about the history of my hair, and my wants with this haircut. I showed her pictures of my naturally curly/wavy hair and let her know that I have been trying to promote my natural hair pattern. She gave me some great product suggestions (I really look forward to trying them out, I love Aveda products), and then she took me over to the hair washing station. Normally, this is the part that feels good while you're staring up, counting the dots in the ceiling, passing the time while trying to not get a kink in your neck resting on a makeshift towel pillow. Well, not this hair washing station...not one dot did I count or kink did I get. Why you ask? Because with the help of Ana and her assistant they sent me to heaven with my arm, hand, neck, and scalp massage. I don't even know when she washed my hair, since I was in such a deep and relaxed state. Then came my cut. I knew I needed to loose at least 3" and she listened to me when I said I wanted to keep as much length as I could, while still getting rid of all the split ends. She spins me around and I was shocked that I still had long, luscious locks that were bouncy and HEALTHY! Shyly, I asked her if she could actually layer my hair a little more (this is me thinking about helping my natural curl pattern) and she immediately smiled and excitedly said "of course". This salon has been my go-to place for about a year now. I guess that means it's time to review. I've tried a few different places around town, but always come back for a few different reasons. First, the hand massage and essential oils that come with a haircut are out of this world amazing. It really adds a nice and relaxing touch to the haircut. Second, the cuts themselves. I've had about 4 different stylists here and have never been unhappy with my hair. They all do my long pixie slightly differently, but every time I walk away very pleased. Lastly, the cost. I have a pixie, I keep it pretty simple but have been to other places in town that charge $100+ for a women's haircut. Depending on the stylist, it's always been somewhere between $50-70 here which I think is totally reasonable. Overall, the decor and vibe is fantastic, it is nice and clean and the music is always relaxing. The shampoo room is dark which is nice and the service is absolutely fantastic. I recommend people to come here all the time. You should try it out if you're looking for your new favorite salon! read more

They have Covid-19 protections in place. The stylist, Felipe, took the time to listen to my many concerns about my hair. He did excellent work cutting my hair. My haircut is perfect!
