I've gotten a couple of recommendations from my friends to go to Pinky for a haircut. I've been going to Ulta for years, but they've raised their prices so I decided to check out this salon. I called in a couple of days prior to see if I can get an appointment with Pinky. Luckily she had availability the next week at a perfect time for me! I walked in and was greeted right away. It was a bit chaotic, but I was able to get a wash easily. Unfortunately once Pinky started combing thru my hair, she saw that there was still some residue of conditioner left, so we had to rinse again. No problem, though. Onto the cut- I told her exactly what I wanted, how many inches off, and showed her an inspo picture! She blew dried my hair and started styling and omgoodness, it was better than the inspo picture! Recently, I called in for a last minute haircut and was told neither of my go-to stylists were available but that Liz was available. I am so happy I went to Liz! I told her alllll of the issues I had and have with my hair including heaviness, pain due to a muscle condition, frizziness, lack of style, and a want for simplicity. I called to make an appointment requesting a stylist that is good with precision cuts. I have or should I say, HAD , medium length hair. I was scheduled with Laura. I went in just to have my hair evened up around the bottom and to add some lift to the top. I even had pictures to provide an idea of what I wanted. What I came out with, was most of my hair cut off and very poorly shaped. I have had short hair in the past and maybe this would have worked out(if I had asked for a short style) but I can't even style it to look good. Now I have to go through the time and additional expense to find another salon to attempt to fix it. I am not happy. If that's the type of cut I get when I specifically ask for a stylist that is qualified to do a "precision" cut, I won't be returning. read more

I got a haircut about a week ago from a different salon and it unfortunately didn't turn out the way I wanted and I decided doing a relatively big chop was the best way to remedy it. Luckily I stumbled upon this salon on here, saw the good reviews, made an appointment and was able to be taken in the same day. Sue was super helpful and quick on the phone and Liz cut my hair and with what she had to work with, she did an awesome job. It was a little stressful having a misunderstanding on booking time for me as the bride (the stylist I specifically requested did not plan to come in for another hour from the requested time I booked for hence not giving a 5 star) but everything turned out fine and we were taken care of, thanks to Illyssa who's work I also liked and knew of from previous Yelp reviews! whew! My hair grows very fast, so every 2-3 years I chop off my hair and donate it to Locks of Love. This year was the year for another donation, so I found Shear Reflection on Yelp and spontaneously went in (without an appointment). The primary reason why I chose this salon is because it's 1 block from my office. I saw that Pinky had really great reviews, so I called 10 minutes ahead. I had to wait about 15-20 minutes, but considering I didn't have an appointment, I wasn't complaining. I cut around 12 inches and Pinky wrapped it in a rubberband and foil so I could easily take it with me to make the donation. Pinky has been working there for a very long time - 8 years I think... My hair cut was $48. I tipped $3 to the lady who washed my hair and $10 to Pinky, so in total it costed me $61. I think that's a fair price for a simple hair cut. I'm not very picky with my hair cuts since my hair grows so fast. I think Pinky did a fine job, but then again, it's pretty hard to mess up a simple bob hair cut. And my hair is really easy to cut and manage. I've never had a hair cut that I hated. I don't usually color my hair because I don't want to ruin it for the donation but after Pinky cut my hair, I found out from my co-workers that they go to Pinky for color and she's pretty good at it. However, they go to different salons for their cuts. As I was waiting for my hair cut, I looked around and saw that the customer base at this salon is on the older side (50s - 60s) and the decor is a bit shabby. It's not really a salon for the young and trendy. I normally go to PR Partners in DC and feel like that is more my environment than this salon. But the ladies who work at Shear Relfections are super friendly. read more

I can't say enough about how much I loved my experience here!! It had been a very long time since my last salon visit, and being new to the area, I was excited to see if this salon would be the right fit. I will 100% be coming back from now on! I was greeted warmly at the front desk and paired with Julia, who from the start was incredibly welcoming and fully invested in making sure I was satisfied with my visit. She took the time to ask me about my current hair routine and what I was looking to achieve, and helped me feel much better when I shared I was nervous about cutting my hair. I've had poor experiences with previous stylists not knowing how to work with curly hair, but Julia obviously is a master of her craft and went above and beyond to give me a cut that works with my style. She also gave me a deep conditioning treatment that completely transformed my dehydrated hair. She then suggested products that I could use to continue my hair care at home and gave me step-by-step instruction on how to use the products effectively. I never felt pressured to buy anything, but after seeing the incredible results I was more than happy to splurge on these quality products!! I am disappointed. After reading a lot of different reviews on Yelp, I decided to go here. The main reason why I wanted to go to a salon was because I had an urge for lighter hair and didn't want to end up with some weird yellow-orange hue because of some drugstore dye. My stylist was Pinky, maybe she's great at threading eyebrows, but my color sure didn't come out right. I naturally have dark brown hair and I wanted to get a honey blonde color. Well my color turned out to be a reddish brown which isn't even much lighter than my natural hair color! After I told the stylist that the color didn't look like the swatch at all, she said my hair was still wet and that it would get lighter. Yeah right. This was my first time dying my hair at a salon - the appointment started twenty minutes late + wrong hair color = not something I'd be willing to pay 80$ for (that was a full color job and sitting under a stationary hairdryer). The lady at the reception desk was very nice, the atmosphere is nice too. Everybody is very nice and polite. But I wouldn't come back there to dye my hair. read more

I have been trying to find a good hair stylist for awhile; after a very bad experience at a chain salon... I started doing things for myself. Well let's say that the last box of hair color didn't give me the result that I expected. ACK!!! In my eyes I was seeing something darker than what I wanted and was that a green hue I was seeing? Doh! I did a lot of one line searching and reading reviews and decided to go here; I like what some of the other reviewers said, and called for an appointment. I was very happy that they listened to my story over the phone. I was also impressed that I got none of that attitude that some places will give when they find out that you have been messing with your own hair. They were extremely accommodating, and I was able to get an appointment within the hour of calling. AWESOME. Sharon my hair stylist; sat me down and looked at my hair. She talked me through all my options, and stated that she didn't see the green that I was seeing. She very well could have sold me into a double process and highlights before hand. I found her honesty refreshing. Violet shampoo was her recommendation, the way that she spoke I knew I could trust her. I was greatly relieved. As far as the hair cut, she was awesome... my hair is long a couple of inches below my bra strap. So I get scared each time a need a trim, afraid that I will need a 4 inch trim... but I also know that long hair isn't pretty if it doesn't look healthy. I was very happy that my trim was just that, I don't think she took an inch off and the long layers were touched up nicely. She worked with me to get my bangs the way I like them. She blew my hair strait, and gave me some tips with using a flat iron. My hair looked great... I was very happy. Now for the best part, the price... it was extremely affordable. I was kinda expecting a la carte type pricing; an extra charge for long hair, an extra for the flat iron... I was floored that price that was listed on their web site was the price I paid. I will never go to another big chain store again. I am very looking forward to my next visit; I will be getting highlights if I can't get used to this darker shade... I feel awfully rude, but I feel my last review was too generous, seeing as I have to look at this haircut. The one who cut my hair dyed it really well but consistently rejected anything I asked for. I asked for my bangs cut, so they didn't hang in my face, and she didn't do it. Asked for my hair shorter, she barely cut it. It's lopsided and there's one chunk that's longer than everything near it. She wouldn't even cut the hair in front of my ears. I said that it stuck up when I put my glasses on, she said to grow it out. I cut them at home. I want to be nice. I do. And she dyed my hair really well. But I have to pin my hair back, to make it look shorter and more presentable. I thought that, since I can handle it, and that since she dyed my hair well, that I should leave a more pleasant review. I called about a week ago and asked for any stylist -- I'd never been before -- and was given a Saturday, 12 pm appointment with Chrissy. I was thrilled at how quickly it was to get an appointment, and at a prime time on a holiday weekend (the only time I could go, because I'm on college break just for a few days). When I got to the salon, I was promptly greeted, offered to sit down, and told where to change into a smock. I showed Chrissy a photo of the hairstyle I wanted, cut and color, and she started to emulate it. I was worried that it wouldn't turn out like the photo, because I was going blonder than I usually am and was nervous about the big change. But Chrissy did an AMAZING job on my incredibly thick hair! The highlights look amazing and the cut is the perfect length. The best part is that the price of the cut and full foils was over $50 less than my other salon!
