Had my appointment with Richard, not a pleasant experience! A complete disappointment! If you are looking for a complex hair color technique, this is not the place for it. Also, if you enjoy your hair being pulled forcibly different direction, during washing and drying, well Richard is your guy. Have been to a different salons throughout the world, never before in my life my hair was washed with such a bruit force! Richard also believes that in order to make your hair look smooth he needs to put a ton of product in it. Never once he asked if I would be okay with any king of hair product, or if I am allergic to certain smells, etc. The shampoo that smells like a clove is not something that I would've ever approve of. Also the brush that was used to dry my hair had a hairs from previous client on it, disgusting! Yes the owner who calls their clients Trolls telling you a lot about their business. I have been going to Aveda salons for the past 15 years. When my salon in AMI changed their business hours, I googled 'Aveda salon near me' and was happy to find Shear Rituals located less than 5 miles from my house. I booked my first appointment with Aspen and we immediately clicked (which is pretty important to me). I told her what I wanted, showed her a couple pics and she did an amazing job. I booked my 2nd appointment with her last Saturday for a overall refresher of highlights and cut. Again, she did a great job. Although she is quite younger than me, I feel like our conversations are effortless. I see that most of the complaints for this salon are regarding the cost, but if you view the services ahead of time and have gone to an Aveda (or any other 'upscale' salon, this should not come as a surprise). This is one of very few things that I splurge on but to me, it's worth it. I love the atmosphere of the salon and the staff is very professional yet keeps the experience fun and relaxing! I recently relocated from NY to FL & desperately needed someone to completely redo my tape-in extensions, cut & color. After searching I came across Shear Rituals and worked with their amazing stylist Francesca who exceeded my expectations. She was extremely professional & installed my extensions, matching the exact color I wanted, better than any salon I have been to in NY & I've been getting extensions for over 10yrs. Typically my tapeins were installed tight & when they grew out would fall flat, Francesca took her time with placement & my cut so that this wouldn't be the case. Honestly would recommend Francesca for any service but if you're looking for someone specifically for extensions, she's your go to! I've already booked my next appointment with her. read more

I give this salon two stars because I didn't have any complaints above the partial highlight that I had done. I didn't walk out of the salon going "Wow.... my hair looks amazing! " But the highlights were okay. I had just gotten highlights & low lights put in my hair less than two months prior. However, I did not end up liking the dark around my face. Hence, my choice to only get a partial highlight. I simply didn't need a full highlight again that quickly. The reason I only gave the salon two stars is because I ended up paying $180 for a partial highlight & a blow dry. No cut. $150 + $30 tip. I was quoted $75 for a partial highlight. OK. Fair. And $25 for a blow dry. OK. Fair. What I was not told when I was given the quote for the services I needed was that it's $25 if you need toner. And it's another $25 if they have to mix up more of the bleach/highlighting mixture - Not sure why a second bowl would be needed for a partial highlight anyway? I live just outside the city of Chicago (where prices are typically higher than here in in Bradenton, FL) & I've been getting my hair highlighted for many years & I've never spent $180 on a partial highlight and a blow dry. I was shocked. I, like most women, am on a budget. And I feel very strongly that when a price is quoted, all of the possible charges should be included in that quote. And I also feel that, before the services are performed that would incur those additional costs, a client should be informed. Bottom line, I felt blindsided by the charges when I went to pay. No, probably won't be going back to this salon anytime soon If you're on a budget, this is not the place to go. If you're not on a budget & are happy to leave a salon feeling ok, not great, but okay with the services performed, this place is right up your alley. After reading the business owner's response, Mark, I have this to say.... I'll keep it short & simple because there were several things that you referenced that are untrue. I won't respond to lies. I ALWAYS tip a minimum of 15%. Always. (In this case I tipped 18%). Why? Because I can afford to. And because many years ago I relied on tips to live. And I remember those days vividly. The stylist does not deserve to take a hit for an unethical situation her employer created. If you want to insult me for tipping your stylist very well, that's an insult I'll take. I can't remember reviewing any other salon in recent years. Ive been going to the same salon for years at home in Illinois. And I certainly haven't ever given them a bad review. I think it's says a lot about the character of the person who responded to my review that they would insult any other salon no matter how inexpensive their services may be. But that's just my humble opinion. Lastly, I assure you, not being able to afford your services is not my issue. I will never ever, ever, ever be wealthy enough to overpay for services or be taken advantage of when it comes to my finances. Quite frankly, that's why I have what I have. It's interesting that your response focuses far more on insulting me when you don't even know me than it does addressing the issue that I had at your salon. I was charged $50 more than I anticipated because I wasn't told about possible additional costs. That was my problem. You should just correct that to avoid a situation like this happening again. And then you won't have to insult customers. Imagine that! read more

Ive been looking for a salon since Ive moved to Bradenton last year and came across the great reviews here. From the outside the salon doesnt have much appeal but to my surprise the inside is absolutely cozy and very clean. I made an appointment with Makeena for a cut and style and she was wonderful! I went last week to have cut and color and despite the hair dresser doing all that he could to follow the instructions of what I thought I wanted, unfortunately I wasn't happy with the outcome. I called the following day and was welcomed to return and discuss the things that I did not like about it. The team pulled together to work me in between their already busy schedules to give my hair the overhaul that it needed for me to (eventually) love it...in honesty it took a couple of days to embrace it. I had my longish hair styled there, she did a great job. However due to my work environment I needed a style that was shorter and kept the hair out of my face. I went back after a few weeks and explained this to her. I showed 2 pictures of what I wanted. She disagreed with me that they would work. Unfortunately I allowed what I thought was her expertise to overrule what I wanted and we went with a butchered version of a bob. I hated it and it still was falling in my face. I called the next morning and said as much and was told to come in and it would be fixed no charge. I did and again showed her the original pics of what I wanted. I was told that since it is really another haircut I would have to pay in full again. At that point all I could do was agree. Incredibly she butchered this cut even worse. The worst was how insulting she was when she was trying to pad the price of the cut. She said she needed to blowdry it (another $10) because I wouldn't possibly know how to style it. During the cut she did not attempt any small talk and almost seemed annoyed that I did not like her original idea of a cut. I think she butchered the second cut on purpose. It cost me nearly $100 to get this. Luckily hair grows and lessons learned. Follow my own advise and if someone is unwilling to listen to your needs and is unknowledgeable about how to cut a style find another stylist. I had a highlight and color with Lucaya at this salon and I could not be happier with her. My appointment was at 5 pm . When I checked in I asked if that was enough time for root touch up as well as highlights which is what I booked it for . While we were discussing this Lucaya came out to greet me and reassured me she would try at least to give me a few highlights as they close at 7pm . Long story short she took it upon herself to stay late and give me full highlights as well as the other services. Her work is excellent and she is friendly and attentive just the right amount . She also explained everything and was very upfront about pricing . 5 years ago I was quite upset with this salon but I'm very happy I gave them another chance and Lucaya may now become my regular hairdresser. EXCEPTIONAL experience today!!! I knew this appointment would be worth the wait and I'd find my forever stylist after a year of trial and error. I easily made my appointment online and they put me with Makenna, who specialized in color correction. During consultation she broke down what we could do to take my hair from red to blonde/strawberry blonde and settled with lifting it to rose gold (her suggestion) and intuitively it was something alive always wanted, so she hit the mark. Her lead stylist came by as well to help and make suggestions and was very knowledgeable. Makenna told me we had a whole team behind us, because everyone was interested in this dramatic change, making me feel taken care of and supported. What a wonderful experience!!! I made my appointment with Richard... he was so friendly. He was talkative but not too talkative!!! Which I love. I showed him a picture of the color I wanted, we talked and he showed me swatches of potential hair colors before we chose one. I felt included in the color decision which was so wonderful and a new experience for me. The color was PERFECT!!!! Not only that , he cut my long dark hair beautifully with long layers and a face frame. I told him I wanted to keep it long and he listened! New to this state and have been here twice. I've gotten a hair cut from 2 different stylists and the cuts I've got were great..just not what I showed them in pictures. My last cut was about 4 inches shorter than what the picture showed. She kept cutting more and more and at one point I hear her say " oops" . More than likely will not be returning. read more

Very disappointed. I have been going here for a year for my hair color. The girl who used to color my hair left and deleted my history. It had taken me many sessions for us to get the color right with her. When she left I went back and the new stylist did a terrible job the first time. I went back yesterday and she got it wrong again. Not just that but she didn't seem to care enough to fix it or even understand what I, the customer, wanted. I am a hairdresser myself with 30 years of experience and when my customers left the salon they had to be completely satisfied and happy. It was a reflection on me and they were my best advertisements. I would never send someone out dissatisfied especially when they were victims of some internal salon issues! On February 21st, 2021, I arrived at the Shear Rituals Salon for my appointment with Matthew. I have been seeing Matthew for over a year and have always had a great experience. On this day I sat in the chair and began a conversation about what his thoughts were on a new style option for my hair texture. The conversation moved on to the consistency of an Avida product I had purchased from the shop on my last visit. I was trying to find out if this was a normal occurrence. This whole conversation took place in less than 10 minutes. And during this time, Matthew was leaning against the wall with his arms crossed and a scowl on his face. There was no discussion of new hair styles, etc. At this point, he sort of shrugged and said "I'm not going to cut your hair" and walked to the back of the shop. I sat there in shock - uncertain as to what had just transpired. I picked up my things and went to the front desk to talk to the receptionist. As I was standing there trying to make sense of this behavior, Matthew came charging from the back of the shop shouting "You can't talk to me like that! You can't talk to me like that. I provide a service." I thought if answering questions about ones hair style and products sold in the shop is not part of a service, what is? While the experience was upsetting and confusing, I am equally upset by the lack of follow up from the management or any representative of the salon. No one reached our to inquire about what had transpired, offer an explanation or an apology. I find Matthew's behavior rude and unprofessional, and while this might have been an isolated incident, and I hope it was, I will not be visiting the salon again nor recommending it to friends. read more

Don't make a reservation here unless you're there early. I drove from Tampa, arrived 5 minutes late due to skyway congestion, and was told "sorry, she can't do it. She's booked solid. There's no time" No, "well we could do this instead". All I needed was a bang trim and highlight touch up. If I didn't have time for color, no problem. But that wasn't even an option. That's not how you provide proper customer to a first time customer. The girl (Danielle, I believe?) who answers the phone/books appointments/has never worked in customer service before, also has the worst attitude I have ever had to deal with. When I made the appointment initially, I felt the same way. I'm not an inconvenience, I'm sorry if my phone call came in while you were busy doing whatever else it is you do there.. there's no excuse to act this way. You do not talk down to people in this manner - in any profession. I drove an hour and 15 minutes, to be turned away with no alternative solution. That's unacceptable. I will never ever return here and never ever suggest this salon to anyone I speak to. I'm only giving one star because it's not the fault of the company as a whole; but rather your "receptionist" you have representing you. Matthew has been doing my hair for the last year that I've lived in Florida. If I have a hair cut or style in mind, he makes it look even better than I thought possible by putting his own personal touch on it. Great salon, Kris is amazing! My Aunt Margie was having a hair emergency and we found Shear Rituals based on yelp reviews. Kris was able to fit her in within a couple of days. Everyone in the salon was friendly and very sympathetic to her problem. She was afraid her hair was so damaged that she'd have to have it cut super short and not be able to get it colored. However, thanks to Kris's expertise, she got a beautiful new color, an amazing cut, and a keratin treatment to repair the damage.
