I love this humane society. I lived in Sheboygan, WI for about ten years and have adopted three animals from SCHS, two cats and one dog. Each and every time I went in with the intention of adopting, SCHS workers helped me pick out the pet that best suited my lifestyle. I adopted my first cat when I was only 19. When I found that she was lonely I went in to adopt another cat and they allowed me to bring in my first cat so that we could see how she reacted to the new cats. It was fantastic. The staff was so friendly and flexible. On top of that, they really listened when I was living in an apartment, 21, and ready for my first dog. Rather than push a larger, older dog on me (it would have been understandable since they had so many that needed homes!), they set me up with a smaller terrier. He was the perfect dog for me in so many ways. I had never considered a terrier before, but when I needed to move I was grateful that I had a dog that would be accepted into apartment buildings and could ride with me in the cabin of an airplane. I still love the woman who helped me for setting up such a perfect match! The only negative is that their space is small and dingy looking. However, they are apparently planning on upgrading in 2013. In short, if you are willing and able to adopt do it with SCHS. read more

had tried calling them numerous times and numerous days about a puppy I had adopted from someone that has originally gotten him from the human society and was just trying to get information on the puppy as the owners lost the paperwork. and left numerous voicemails. and still nothing back. I don't live near there to just drive there and talk to them read more

Notice that there are more Negative reviews, than positive*** I am so angry and mad about my experience with the Sheboygan Humane Society. I will never donate or do business with them again. I have had six or more Great Pyrenees (Pyr) dogs (I know the pros and cons). I have one now and we would like to add another to our family. I saw that The Sheboygan Humane Society had a Pyr that was up for adoption, so I spent the hour filling out their on line application. No one contacted me. So we went to the Sheboygan Humane Society to see the dog. I brought the family and our dog. We met the dog. Loved the dog. It's a Pyr. We asked if we could have our dog meet the shelter dog to make sure that they interacted well. They indicated that it would have to get approved and they would call us to set up a day and time. OK???? So.... we waited 4 days and no called us back. I left messages and finally they called me back and said that they would NOT allow the dog to go to a home that had other pets. This dog had been placed by the Humane Society four time and was returned by each family. The complaints of the previous owners were : Apparently, the dog does not like to be caged for 8 hours a day. It does not like cats and I don't like cats (smart dog). It barks. Pyrs Bark. It likes to stay outside (vs 8 hours in a cage). Seems one person, who has not met me, can determine I am not qualified. So went to a meet and great 6 days ago and asked for a cat to be put on my application to save for me. He was on a stray hold and had to be on it for 5 days. Get s call at 11:30 telling me the cat is available. Get another call at 1:47 telling me they are moving on. I work night shift snd 2 hours is not enough time for anyone to respond to a voice message. This is not good customer service and I will NEVER adopt from that place ever!!!!!!!! I applied for a cat adoption. Instead of leaving me a voicemail saying that, they got my hopes, had my on hold for awhile until they finally answered she had been adopted. Would have easily been sufficient in a voicemail. read more

We drove all the way to Sheboygan to meet two of their dogs that we were interested in and right when we got there and asked about the dogs they said they were no longer taking applications for them. This place needs to either answer the phone (we had called around 10 am before we left and they sent us to their busy line) or update their website more and label the dog as pending. We want to add an addition to our family but it's a little hard to do when places like this don't help out the customers and waste our time when we could have been looking elsewhere. read more

My grandmother recently had to make the painful decision to have her beloved cat euthanized due to a terminal illness. I contacted the Sheboygan Humane Society to assist in this matter and made the appointment to have the cat euthanized. I made the trip to Oak Creek, WI to pick up the cat from my grandmother and bring her to Sheboygan to be put down. When I contacted the Humane Society to let them know I was nearby with the cat they informed me that they could no longer do it because it was not deemed an "emergency". At this point I could no longer get the cat in to my private vet until the next morning to be euthanized. I was not prepared to house a sick cat overnight and had to go out and purchase a larger kennel to comfortably house her overnight. This was more than an inconvenience. After taking the cat to my vet to be put down I travelled back to the Humane Society to take advantage of the cremation services they offer. Paid $55 plus tax for a private cremation. That was over 6 weeks ago. I just got the ashes back today and only because I have been calling to inquire frequently as to the progress. This is horrible customer service. I have used their services in the past when it was under old management, and service was always great. The staff was pleasant and knowledgeable however, since the new manager has taken over things have rapidly gone down hill. read more

Over the years we've adopted 3 cats and 1 dog here in Sheboygan. Best thing we could have ever done. Two of the cats are still with us as is our rescue dog. Unfortunately one of the kitties got very sick and left us to wait for us by the Rainbow Bridge. The staff is always so pleasant and helpful. Really like the idea of bringing in one of our residents to meet a possible new addition to the family. Always works and will be doing it again tomorrow as we need a companion for our naughty little Rascal. read more
