Really dig the ambience of the old building. They say it's haunted, you be the judge, I didn't see any ghosts. With great service. There was a new server training in. They were very attentive. The drinks were good. I had the Sheeley old-fashioned, made with Bulleit Rye, a fairly standard Wisconsin style old-fashioned. My ribeye was just a little overcooked and my wife smashed burger was just a little undercooked. The food overall was pretty good. I'll definitely go back. It's taken years since I left town to finally make it back here under the (not so) new ownership. I've heard such good things and so when we found ourselves with an open afternoon, we stopped by for dinner. The ambiance is casual with lots of fun things to examine on the walls - some historic, some new. We started with the Brussels sprouts, loaded with bacon and Gouda cheese. The service and ambiance is wonderful! The overall menu and food quality is terrible, unfortunately. I've been there several times because my dad loves Sheeleys but he and I both feel like the food is not great and it's expensive. I would LOVE to see them fix the menu and food. I was driving into town at 7am Saturday and slowed by this cool old building thinking it would be neat to stop and check it out but it was closed of course at that hour. Later that evening my son and his girlfriend took me there without me knowing. We had great appetizers the Brussel sprouts and cheese curds were amazing. My burger was also very good and the sausage soup was also great. My drinks were stiff and we met the owner. She was kind enough to try to put hockey on for us. Will go back for sure! read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! I've lived in the Chippewa Valley for over 29 years and have never been to the gem until tonight. The atmosphere is fun and casual and intimate. We ordered the Boom Boom Shrimp and the Mushroom Bruschetta to share. These were both fantastic!! The shrimp were slightly spicy and very juicy and balanced well with the greens. The bruschetta was more of a flatbread but it was earthy and also well-balanced. This was some of the best food we had in years. We couldn't resist more so we ordered the walnut burger and truffle fries to share. The fries were good but the walnut burger was tender and light and topped with all kinds of yumminess. This is a place I've been missing out on and a place we will be back to very soon! read more

Worst meal I have had in a long time. Did all the specials for the day and was completely disappointed. Hot chicken sandwich was greasy, pickle dried out, side sauce had a old film on it. Shrimp tacos were over cooked. Flour tortillas hard as a rock, lime wedges dried out and cilantro old and wilted. Had to ask for utensils. Can I give it a 3.5? Drinks would be a solid 5... Food is a 3. They are trying to be fancy, but don't quite attain it in my opinion. It's pretty expensive for a smaller town, and if the food were executed well, I would absolutely pay for the variety they have on the menu. BUT it falls short. I had the beef carpaccio, to which the waitress exclaimed, "Excellent choice!" It was pretty subpar actually. It was sliced WAY too thick to eat as carpaccio, and the dollops of horseradish and undressed arugula didn't do it any favors. The hubby had truffle fries and shrimp, both of which were really good, but for $13 fries, they better be freaking mouthwatering! BUT, on the bright side, the drinks were absolutely awesome. I had a bloody mary, and he had a spicy margarita of some kind.. They were both unique and very tasty! Went here on a busy Saturday night, expecting "sub par" slow service based on being here a few years ago and not being to impressed. We were sat right away and greeted by a super friendly Hawaiian guy that was filled with stories and wasn't the "fake" nice you usually see with servers. Our FANTASTIC! truffle fries came out for the appetizer nice and crispy (definitely recommend this before or with your meal). Then came my mushroom and blue cheese burger, which no lie was probably the best overall burger I have ever had. I ordered shrimp tacos and a salad and I did a add on of shrimp for my salad.. and my husband ordered there steak.. we also ordered there boom boom shrimp and tat was the only thing that was good. i have been here a few times after work for a few beers.. always feel rushed and that they are trying to make room for new customers closer to dinner time..but i have never experienced a saturday night quite like this before. honestly the worst experience i have ever had out to dinner. we came in (a party of 7) at 515 and were asked if we had a reservation. we didnt. instead of problem solving with us the server asked a table to get up and relocate. (there were open tables upstairs and downstairs mind you). we sat down, no drinks were taken and my baby didnt get a high chair for 25 minutes. ordered drinks from the hostess because our "server" didnt come back and she was great! but then our server took the drinks from her mid order, didnt continue to ask what drinks we wanted and walked away. We over heard her say "this is my table" quite rudely to this hostess. The hostess ended up walking out quitting within that hour They told us. We got our drinks 20 min later. one of us ordered a bud and it was expired! Tasted terrible! Turned out.. all of the bud bottles were expired and we had to switch but said nevermind we dont want one. another dirty martini was straight vermooth (went up to the bar to ask for olive juice and waited 15 minutes with a baby in hand). We ordered after 30 min.. and waited another hour plus for our food!!!! We had it by now and wanted our food to go. 3 kids an hour n a half later we were telling people walking in the door to turn back. Got 1/3 of our food, and 1/4 off the cost after complaining and had to still wait 15 more minutes for the rest! We left with missing yet another meal, got $50 off a 100+ tab (doesnt sound like an apology to me), and still got charged for the expired beer! Our server did not come back once asking for a drink refill within the 1.5 hours and didnt give us any update on our food. It was honestly the worst experience i have ever had anywhere. we will be calling tomorrow to get compensated for another meal we did not get. Ate at the Shelley House Saloon a few years ago. Thought it was very good and upscale by Chippewa Falls standards. Price to match that. Vey good. Tried it again today, especially based on their website and Yelp menus. We got there at 7:00pm. About 3/4 full. Immediately we were told that they were out of the fish fry. This is Wisconsin, we invented the Friday night fish fry. They were out at 7:00. WHAT? Then why still have it on the handwritten chalkboard specials board? We were also very disappointed in the menus. Their on line menu included a charcuterie board, humus, chicken and waffles, strawberry feta, smoked poblano tacos, pastrami sandwiches, bank mi, lamb chops, yellow curry, and artichoke char. Absolutely none of these were on their paper in house menu. The actual menu was extremely small and really not high end food. A burger on a pretzel bun. Bar food. Other mistakes on the in house paper menu. Their was a tune poke bowl. The main ingredient was raw salmon, not tuna. The waitress said it was a typo. So fix it. I finally decided on shrimp tacos. According to the menu they were battered and fried. I got two tacos with unbattered pan fried shrimp. While it was good, it was nowhere near what the menu said. I won't go into the Yelp menu, it was just as screwed up. While the food was tasty, it wasn't at all what they said on line. It wasn't even what their in house paper menu said. read more

Been here several times and time for a review. All stops ended with the same result, excellent food and very good service. I've been here when they were super busy and when they were slow. No difference, excellent food and very good service. Summer time they have a nice outside patio to boot. Most recently stopped for a mid afternoon lunch, I had the Cajun flatbread and brew. Absolutely delicious. The burger my wife had was equally good according to her and the french fries ( I commandeered from her) were maybe the best I ever had. Anything I have ever had here from salads to fish and beyond have always been excellent. A well stocked bar with revolving tappers in place too. Do not pass go, if in the area stop and sample their diverse menu. (one caveat regards parking, it's appears limited. If no room on the street park in the lot to the west. I never write a review or complain about a dining experience but I can't let this one go. Called to see how long of a wait and they said they could seat a party of five right away so we headed over. We get there and we are told by the hostess she didn't know if she could seat us as they were under staffed. Finally seated 20 min later we order food right away as we are very hungry and with small kids. 1:15 min later our food comes. No one is hungry anymore and just tired and all we want to do is get the bill and leave. The waitress is also frustrated and says we need to to talk to the owner who we never asked to talk to . The owner shows up at out table clearly overwhelmed in tears and after 20 min of her sitting at our table listening to her sob story we finally got the whole bill and we were on our way. Most bizarre and horrible dining experience ever. Burger King is next door and a much better choice. read more

We have been to Chippewa Falls numerous times and searched for "good eats" look no further. We have found the holy grail of yummy flavorful dishes. I have had Stuffed medjool dates in Chicago Avec and I will say these stuffed Gorgonzola bacon wrapped dates are worth driving to eat. The Chef at Sheeley House may surpass the famous Chicago dish. The Maple Dijon sauce is mouthwatering. And the sweet salty creamy tart savory goodness wrapped up in a pocket of medjool date is outstanding. I'm so happy to met Jes Moran! Were told "We don't have that, we haven't been able to change our website, but we do have halibut"...priced in the $20's. Also Walleye which was higher priced. We just don't want to pay those prices for a fish fry, so left. Sheeleyhouse, get your act together and have a menu on your website that's up to date. Went out of our way to go there for the cod dinner. Their menu is pricey on all items so be prepared. Ambiance & vibe of old building is very cool & historic. Our grp of x5 were seated on the 2nd floor-which we enjoyed. Our hostess & our server were friendly. The server was efficient w/drinks & bringing out our starters: stuffed dates wrapped in bacon & mozzarella meatballs were excellent. WHEN our main plates arrived (90 mins after we ordered) our food was above avg but not superior... esp after waiting 1.5 hrs. The food is pretty good. Not worth the wait if you are hungry. I've been here twice. The first time it took over an hour to get our 3 appetizers we ordered. Which came at the exact same time as our food. We were starving by then and didn't really get to enjoy them. It was pretty good so we figured we give them another shot. We ordered 1 appetizer and it took about 45 minutes to get. It was tasty, however don't go there hungry. Not sure if I'll give it another shot. Neither time it was busy. Maybe 2-3 other small tables. You shouldn't have to wait an hour for an appetizer when slow. Like I said the food was pretty good too which makes it disappointing. My guess is they do it on purpose to get you to order more drinks. Which it really didn't. read more

I like the history behind the building as much as the great food. It is a little pricey but well worth it!

We have been Eau Claire natives for 36 years and have recently moved to Hallie. Much to our surprise, Chippewa Falls is growing into a strong contender in terms of the food scene - with Sheeley House leading the way. Their appetizers are amazing (Boom Boom Shrimp), their burgers are spot on, their dry-age steak special was phenomenal and their menu changes quite frequently. Burgers and portions were great. I'm not big on the seasoning they use on the fries but I suppose I could ask for plain next time (I just didn't know this time) also they wait staff could check in on you more but otherwise a pretty good experience! We randomly stopped by at the end of a long Tuesday to have a few more drinks. What a great choice. The bar was great the service was excellent. To make a really long story short a push-up contest was the deciding factor on us dining there the following Thursday night. 30 of us. No easy project for a small kitchen staff of two with less than 48 hours to prepare. When we arrived we were greeted like royalty and served crab cakes and some sort of delicious bisque. Totally unexpected in a small town pub in northern Wisconsin. The filet I ordered was cooked to perfection and it was by far one of the best steaks I've had in years!! After dinner the owner, Jess, graciously told us the history of the building and how she came to be the newest (and the best in my opinion) owner of the Sheeley House. We had a great experience. Hats off to Jess and the staff at the Sheeley house! If I didn't live 1500 miles away I'd be there weekly! read more
