My class is taught by Abby on Wednesdays, who is really patient, an excellent instructor, and an incredible potter herself. The other teachers are great too - I've admired all their work on the greenware rack and have heard good things from other students. As for price, it's very reasonable - $480 for 6 weeks and you can do benchtime if you need or miss a class. For me it's totally worth it to have a little refuge in my neighborhood to hang out and make things. I've already replaced a bunch of my bowls and mugs with handmade bowls and mugs and my friends are now asking me to make them things since I've gotten a lot better since I first started. If you're thinking about signing up - DO IT! It's so worth it.

First, they're more expensive than most other studios in New York City. Earthworks is also more tight and cramped than others. There is little room to move around and no place to set your toolbox that is not in someone's way. WORST of all it's a very uptight place with strange, unnecessary, rigid rules and strict, odd policies. There is a high-strung vibe in this studio and you can feel it when you walk through the front door. There is a new owner and a fish stinks from the head. And why post images on social media of beautiful work that was NOT created or photographed in this studio? They steal images from the internet and post as their own. What does that tell you? There are other studios in the city. PLEASE don't come here.

The print was weathered, sentimental, and irreplaceable, as the artist had passed away, so this piece needed a lot of care. Mahub carefully repositioned, reframed, and remounted it with a beautiful matte-finish mat, and literally ironed out the years of wear with a machine to make it look as good as new! I am so pleased. Not by their work, since I didn't actually have any work done, but with simple communication and professionalism. I stopped by in person in the summer of 2013 to ask if a small section of porcelain from a brass bed frame could be repaired. Anatoly said it would be difficult... especially since I did want to spend a lot.. but he said he would look into it and get back to me. I never heard from Anatoly once. I called him about 4 times over 7 months and he said there was no update. Whne I called to see if there was any update good or bad he said 'Try me again in a month or so'. That was it. Now some 7 months later without a single call to say 'Hey I can't help you' or a 'No luck but I'm still trying' I called him and got the usual 'I don't have anything for you' I told him how disappointed that I never recieved a single call or update even if it was to say he couldn't help. And I told him to keep the piece. I don't know if his lack of professionalism or common decency as a business owner was due to my project not being a lucrative piece for him. Or perhaps his workload being such that he didn't have a spare minute or two to update a customer... all I can say is, despite being my being very friendly and checking in with him, I felt ignored and unimportant.

The Unit was shipped on time, and handed off to a great freight service. Usually the last mile is a problem for some furniture services because of the service the company chooses. I can tell Vitsoe makes sure every part of their customer lifecycle is taken cart of. The unit itself is beautiful. I remember first seeing it in the Dieter Rams SFMOMA exhibit years ago, and have wanted it ever since. It's well constructed and timeless, though I imagine if you're considering buying it you already know what you're getting.
