Nanette Z looking for wine near her birthday party restaurant searched online and found Liquors on Allen. It's a tiny nondescript basement shop where you have to be buzzed in if you want to view its wine selection. We were pleasantly surprised that the shop offered a good variety of wines, mostly imported, in all price ranges including a $300+ bottle. After viewing almost the entire shop's selection, she ended up with 3 Decoy Cabernet Sauvignons, 2 Philippe Auchère Sancerre and 2 Chardonnays. After we got to the restaurant we discovered that only 6 were in the bags. Luckily it was 2 blocks away and the bottle was waiting for us. Reliable place to pick up alcohol. You walk in and it in just a little area you wait in line and then ask for what you need through the glass (very security heavy place). Not a place for browsing or being particular. There is an option to get buzzed in to see the wine. The guy working was quiet and to the point. I must say that I'm the living example of the saying: "support your local business." Practically live right on top of this liquor store that used to be owned by my aunt and uncle (the cute old Asian couple, as some of you may remember). They sold it to these super cool, chill Asian dudes. A fair exchange. Ask them what champagne goes well with Mango--they got the answer. Which brand of Gin is good yet reasonably priced--they know. Which is a good Korean drink to gift--do I have to say it again? Or just go down to have convo. Looking forward to see how they revamp the store. The fact that I practically don't have to leave my apartment to get alcohol, that the owners are chill, and that prices are on the cheaper side, I don't see a reason to go to any other liquor store. read more

Exit Allen & Delancey. (no, not the restaurant...the street corner). Descend into the LIQUOR CAGE. This is the spot for all your pre-bar needs, and everything here is sold from behind the protection of bulletproof plexiglass. Don't even try to steal a bottle or pull anything stupid here. Everything's on lockdown till you push your dollars through the little slot to the guy back there. Price guide: 750ml, Johnny Walker Red: $23 1000ml, Svedka vodka: $16 750ml wines--depends, but South American and cheap Italian reds run about $7. You could also walk out of here with way more expensive bottles, but why would you? Go to Astor Place Wines, or a serious wine shop instead. This is a liquor store. read more

Now, this is a rare ghetto liquor gem that will guaranteed vanish within the next few years given the gentrification swallowing up every square inch of Manhattan isle and fucking it in the ass. I just waited innocently clutching my last $20 trying to thwart the obsessive voices in my head: "Should I? Or shouldn't I? Should I? OR Shouldn't I? Aren't you trying to be sober, Liza? How close does this bring you to your goals? Is it really gonna make you feel that different? And on and on... till the 'reasonable' voice slams down saying 'ah what the hell'." What the hell indeed. So I'm standing there with my $20, pretty determined to follow through on this innocent purchase that only I sillily make difficult and dramatic. Sillily... What a word, eh? I'd never say that word aloud - it's so awkward. So there were some glamorous bitches from London behind me dressed in fake leopard furs and chunky heels, and then some people who were not going to the same party came in behind them and that's when one of the dudes yelled: "YO TAK!!!" This family-run liquor store is really clean and cozy. They have a great wine selection and one of the store owners has a really great knowledge on whiskey (one of my favs)! Definitely feel free to ask them questions! I believe they also host tastings from time-to-time. read more

Stopped by looking for a liquor to celebrate with friends. They took really good care of me! I was asked for what occasion, what kind of drinkers they are (apparently, it matters), etc. I walked away with a limited edition of a whiskey that they had; not bad at all. I was also there when they had a wine tasting; the person they invited was very nice and knowledgeable. Looking forward that they have more of them! A hidden treasure in LES! This wine and liquor store has great prices, and tax included already! Another perk is that they accept credit cards. They have a wide selection of wine and liquor, and even Soju, Sake, and Chinese wine. The best part is the people, they're all fun and down to earth. They're always there to help too.
