Very good bagels. The place has been around since 1974 and it looks like it but not in a bad way. The bagels are fresh and the mini bagels are delicious too. The shop pays homage to Brooklyn with lots of memorabilia to look at everywhere. If I lived closer I'd frequent this bagel store. read more

Popped in to this cash only bagel place that I had seen listed in best NJ bagels. They are known for the French Toast bagel. Took it home and it lived up to the reviews. A strong French toast flavor not just powdered sugar made the bagels. It was if it was infused with maple syrup goodness. Curious to see how it would be with Taylor Ham. Next time for sure. I've been to half a dozen bagel places along route 35. This is my favorite. Yes it's cash only, and yes they are sometimes short staffed. But I love their crunchy bottom, chewy top bagels and the raisins aren't chopped into tiny, indistinguishable black dots. They are generous with the cream cheese and the coffee is ok. They have a lot of sandwiches, but I haven't gotten to that yet! Servers are friendly. read more

I used to love the food at this place for a reasonable price but this experience will be the last I have at this bagel store, I will never be back. The price of these two bagels one of which is a mini bagel with cream cheese and the other is supposed to be a regular sized everything bagel with pork roll egg and cheese. They both are the same size and they are small so I got two mini bagels and I paid 11.75!!!!!!!!!!!! the price is double of the surrounding businesses and the bagels use to be so good they are base model at best now and double the price!!!!! The cream cheese I couldn't even eat it tasted toxic. The smell in the store was awful it usually always was but the taste of food kept me coming back but now everything is just bad and the price is outrageous. The service is slow which it always has been but like I said the food use to speak for itself. The bagels at Sheepshead are awesome! The cinnamon toast crunch bagels are a favorite among my family and we eat them with butter and syrup. Or you can just eat them plain in the car ride if you can't make it all the way home. Their other bagels are good too. This used to be my favorite bagel place for years; there used to be a friendly staff, great bagels. They don't take plastic but no big thing. Like many places, things have changed. And it's for the worse. I went in to get breakfast the other day. A cranky older woman, who appeared distracted and was counting cash and handling money. I watched her as she began to prepare my sandwich order without having the decency to put on gloves or even wash her hands! Bills and coins are loaded with disgusting germs, and health code rules requires putting on disposable gloves before handling food especially after counting out and handling cash. No thank you. I told her, I'm not eating food that she made after handling money. She said "it's ok", whatever that means. No - it's not ok. The menu prices do not reflect what they charge you. They raised the prices according to this employee, but the menu on the wall still has the previous prices. No signs to indicate prices have been raised, just pay us whatever we tell you...because Putin or whatever the excuse de jour is at this place. I can afford a fifty cent per hike, but I'm not eating food touched by a worker with low health standards and very germ infested hands. She didn't care. Neither do I. But had a gift card for Sheepshead, so I dropped in and Wow, hands down the tastiest bagel I've ever had... I don't want to eat anything else just BAYgels! I will say they are extra thick and chewy, my jaw did get a workout! Only issue is that every week when they pack my order, they put my bagel sandwiches in the bottom of the bag, and then a dozen bagels directly on top. So when I get my order, I have to remove the dozen bagels and am left with a smushed mess of bagel sandwiches in the bottom of the bag. Seriously makes absolutely no sense.
