I never write reviews, ever. I was telling my mother what an experience I had there this morning, and she told me to give them a review on yelp. So here I am: I'm a jersey girl and live on Long Island the past 20 years. I hate their bagels on Long Island, so whenever I go to my best friends house - which isn't too often these days, my son and I always stop. I forgot they didn't take cash because as stated it's been a long time, the owner said don't worry about it and have me my half dozen bagels and iced coffee for free. I was more upset, because we all need money these days. I am beyond thankful & the woman behind me even offered to pay. Thank you so much and the iced coffee was the best and totally made my ride home to Long Island better. I will def spread the word & will come back a lot this summer Much success! read more

I had the most annoying experience there Thursday morning. My order was taken quickly by a nice enough lady. It couldn't have been simpler, toasted sesame bagel with butter. Waited, waited, waited...15 minutes later....It wasn't very busy. Tired of waiting, I asked a gentleman (NOT a gentleman at all) if he knew how long my order would take. He immediately went on the defensive saying he didn't take my order and why was I asking him. He asked me who took my order and I told him the lady had. He accused me of yelling at him (I did not yell. He said I was probably yelling and should remove my mask so I didn't have to yell.). He was quite arrogant and demeaning. The lady came out and said it would be another minute. A couple more minutes my bagel was ready. (How do you stay in business when it takes almost 20 minutes to fill the simplest order?)This rude man was picking food from his teeth several times while I waited and watched. The same hand he was giving people their food and their change. Gross. The floor of the shop was filthy, like it hadn't been swept or mopped in days. I hadn't been here in a while. I used to come here everyday growing up and they were so friendly and always helpful: Recently they have been very rude . I have stood and waited while they took their "regulars" before other customers and have made it a point that they don't like certain people. I will not say the food is bad but the customer service is a big part and it is not the best. read more

I don't like writing bad reviews, but unfortunately I have to give this place 1 star and I'll explain why. It's your pretty stereotypical NY style bagel shop / deli. I'm from NY originally and as far as bagels go these are just "okay". The service is decent but not excellent. Again, it's a deli and it's Jersey, not a big deal. Here's the big deal... about a month ago my sister and her family came to visit so we went there for some egg sandwiches and bagels. Halfway through breakfast my niece yells out "there's a bee in my bagel!". Sure enough, there was what appeared to be a yellow jacket smashed into the side of her bagel. I wrote it off as an "accidents happen" event and moved on. That was one strike. The second, and final strike happened about 3 weeks ago. I got an egg sandwich from there and I was done with the first half and started on the second half. Suddenly I started smelling this vile smell. I realized, to my horror, that it was coming from my egg sandwich. I immediately spit what was in my mouth back out and smelled it. It literally smelled like death. I was mortified. I showed my wife and she couldn't believe it. I don't know if it was a rotten egg or rotten bacon but whatever it was made me start heaving almost immediately. I had that smell and taste in my mouth for days. I was going to bring it back but i was so sick I just wanted to throw it away and hope to get better soon. Needless to say, I never had an experience like that and I never plan on risking it again by going back there. read more

SO SO SO SO good. They used to be my Saturday AM ritual spot--salt bagel with taylor ham, egg and cheese. Yup, I have salt issues. I still indulge once in a blue moon...but it's usually a salt bagel scooped, with eggwhites...no cheese. But it's still delicious! They have all the standard flavors (sesame, everything, salt, cinnamon raisin, whole wheat) as well as some more adventurous ones (French toast, Jalapeno, Cheese). There's also a lot of options for spreads on top. They also serve sandwiches and everything else you'd expect in a deli. And they have a ton of Snapple...I loooooooooove snapple. They do close early, but honestly, after lunch time...are you really going to eat a bagel? Solid bagel spot. Blows the grime ball place in the A&P center out of the water. Cash ONLY. read more

Sheepshead Baygel is Bagel Store/Deli that is open every day but only until early afternoon. Sheepshead Baygels is the best bagel shop in the area. When it is busy it seems out of control but the line moves fast and the orders are prepared correctly. These really are the best bagels. I begrudgingly have to admit that stuff from new york can beat what jersey has to offer....sometimes. I won't take off a star just because they can stand alone on the merits of their bagels. The bagel is crisp on outside, tasty dough, thinly spliced pork roll (on pork roll egg and cheese sandwiches....a jersey treat) too. A little pricey and the parking is horrendous, since it essentially amounts to "just pull in front of the door." But I am nitpicking. Congrats Sheepshead, you get a coveted 5 star review. read more

Shocking that this place has only 3 stars on Yelp when they are miles above the other bagel shops in town in both taste and price. Other reviewers commented that bagels were 'too small' are, with all due respect, full of crap. Not sure if you're used to bagels the size of tire, but these are average sized bagels compared to just about anywhere in the state. The taste is understandably, more opinion based, but I still haven't found a better tasting bagel in Monmouth County. I stop in every Sunday for two salt bagels (which they ALWAYS have, unlike most places) and the staff is always friendly. They've quickly become a favorite Sunday tradition. I will say this, the other reviewers are right about the infamous blonde lady. I've had experiences where she was rude and unfriendly (and even messed up my order a few times), but on one occasion she apologized and told me it was because of their long morning hours. I don't think she's a mean person, just maybe needs less hours or to take it easy a bit. Rest of the staff is very nice and very friendly, so I don't think that one bad egg should give the rest a bad reputation. I even came in one day towards the end of their shift, ordered 2 bagels, and the guy who I believe was the owner, loaded up my bag with about 10, free of charge. I'm hesitant to say 'poor staff' when many of them go out of their way to make you feel like a valued customer. read more

Decent bagel considering that we are not in an urban area that typically has the best bagels. Had a toasted sesame bagel with CC. Price was good and the coffee was very good. Have gone to Sheepshead Baygels a few times. Today....not good. Waited such a long time to get 3 buttered bagels, I think they may have lost my order. Anyways was disappointed when I got to my car to bite in to a hard, slightly burnt bagel. Gave 3 stars because prior visits were "ok". Went here for the first time today. Really good quality bagels. Only complaint would be the butter they use taste more like margarine and doesn't have that salty butter taste I love. But I asked for extra butter and they were spot on with the amount. Some places put on so much butter that you have to wonder what they were thinking - not a problem here. Just moved into area and stopped to get some bagels for my kids between soccer games. They took my order right away. Not too many people in there but the people before me were waiting an awfully long time for their food. Turned out there was a mixup on their order and were waiting for the correct one. Then another guy had a mistake. I get to the field and my sandwich was not mine either! I ate it anyway and it was good. Bagels were good too but they have to get their act together. I think the one kid was messing up the orders because the other employees were giving him a hard time and asked if he had a late night the night before. Hoping this is just a fluke tho and someone was just having a bad day. Regardless it still took an awfully long time to make an egg sandwich. read more

I've been going here for roughly twenty years. Where do I start? Delicious bagels. Boars Head brand deli meats and cheeses, delicious house baked breads, rolls, muffins, cookies, etc....This place can ger BUSY during prime hours, yet never long wait at all. Always well staffed by hard fast workers. Which leads me to the topic of their staff....Idk the vetting/hiring process but through the years the staff has ALWAYS been warm friendly and welcoming and I've always had a great relationship with their people. This was terrible. So the bagels were tiny and pretty much meh. Tasted like they haven't cleaned the grill in forever and the aftertaste is not exactly enjoyable. Let's get past that for a minute. There is this blonde lady who works behind the counter and is a rude, impatient, lazy, terrible server. Like what a jerk. She was almost offended that I wanted to order food. Then she impatiently and angrily takes my order. She knows the guy who orders after me so he got his order before mine because...you know...that makes sense. I even got confused when she walked up to the counter with a bag so I walked towards it only for her to get annoyed with me for assuming that my order, which was placed first, would come out first. I sat patiently and listened to her mutter under her breath talking bad about me for absolutely no reason. Also, I asked for a type of cheese that was clearly on their menu and I pointed directly to it. She appeared to get furious with me and confused and elected to not give it to me anyway. Didn't even bother checking for it. This place is a joke. If you aren't a long time customer they seem to not want your business. I'm still fairly new to this area but rest assured I'll never go back here. I can accept poor service in exchange for amazing product but this is just the worst of both worlds. I hope the blonde lady who worked today (Saturday September 5th) is reading this. Next time you come to work try not to be such a jerk for no reason. Then asked me what my order was about three times ( it was one sandwich). They then said they would make it for me but then tried to charge me again. The personality of the staff aside, these are not the best bagels around. A plain bagel with 2 or more in the bag will consistently come out with one to 3 burned bagels. Not just overdone (which is the usual way way they make them) But burned!! If you were to find a decent bagel in the bag you would find it has an offensive musty taste. I gave the place 4 tries. This place is terrible. Horrible service and mediocre bagels. Jersey prides itself on the quality of its bagels. These bagels are small, overcooked, and have an unpleasantly sweet aftertaste. Not necessarily a flavor you want in your bagel. With so many other options in New Jersey for excellent bagels and wonderful customer service, you would be doing yourself a favor by avoiding this place. The staff's usual behavior is just along the lines of rude and unacceptable. On some occasions the coworkers almost seemed annoyed that I was disturbing them by ordering food.
