1st time and only time. My friend has an allergy and it was not taken seriously or with care. He only ordered a bagel with pork roll. He only needed the area cleaned. Then my other friend ordered her bagel and the lady who took the ordered answered the phone mid taking the order and walked away. when someone else came over to ask if someone was helping the original lady returned and said no she didn't take ANY part of their order. the eye rolls and attitude given over a simple request that should already be taking place in any establishment is insane and unacceptable. making sure the space is cleaned for any food establishment is necessary and disgusting that it is not being a priority here. when my friends went to pay the guy at the counter looked at their order and goes "wowwww". this entire experience shocks me beyond as it is in the wonderful state of NJ. might I add I ordered an egg everything bagel with butter not toasted, and honestly a bit over priced for what it was. the bagel was flat, unflavorful (crazy because it is an EVERYTHING bagel), and more than $3. should be called a nothing bagel instead. wouldn't recommend this establishment but would recommend management speak to their staff to change their attitude unless of course their staff is only learning from "the best". read more

I'd actually gone to this place for a long time because the bagels are good. The owner has always run hot or cold but I have let that slide until two weeks ago. Simply ordered six bagels to go. Waited about twenty minutes for them. Now, it should be noted that they have no good system -- you constantly see people that order after you getting their orders first. However, I asked the owner multiple times to check on my bagels. He was incredibly rude, yelled at his staff, and said "I don't know what to tell you." So I have moved on to another spot, where they astonishingly give you your order right away without the side of belligerence. Never going back to Bagel Hut again. read more

Finding a place that bakes their own bagels is always exciting to me especially when they make pumpernickel and rye bagels. Bagel hut offers the delicious fresh bagels but they do not list any prices anywhere not even in their takeout menu. Whenever I am in the area I always look forward to their pork roll, egg and cheese on a plain bagel plus a couple of pumpernickel and rye bagels to go. Anytime is good for the best bagel! My son and I stopped in around 11am for bagels. I got an everything bagel with cream cheese and my son got an egg bagel with butter. Since my last review back in 2015 some things have changed with the location. They renovated part of the store and opened up the dining area to be able to sit at a tables and enjoy your food. They also have tables outside to sit. It also has a great self service coffee counter where you can fill a cup of coffee and add whatever you like. There is a large amount of options for dairy items in the fridge as well as suger options. Also bottle pumps to flavor your coffee. I am very particular about how I like my coffee made so it is a nice addition to be able to do it yourself. The staff is so friendly and quick to get your orders done. Today wasn't busy at 11 but I have walked in with a big crowd and they are always working quick and efficiently. It is defiantly worth the wait for the bagels. There is a reason this place has been open and busy consistently for several years. I think it's been here over 10? Also a great go to lunch spot! They have lunch specials posted and a full menu on the wall to order hot breakfast or cold cut sandwiches. It's not just bagels. Great place! read more

My girl came from Holmdel, today she wanted a bagel and said let's go to her favorite place near her old house. We went to this ordinary strip mall place and found an extraordinary joint! Bagel hut is a winner!!! Full blow awesome!!! The bagels are huge and just damn great. The house made cream cheese spreads are equally great. Lots of space, fast friendly efficient service, lots of drink and hot beverage choices and an owner who is a personality fitting for food Service. They also stay incredibly well and these folks do an awesome job ensuring that they are not undercooked. Very Small place... Yes, they are located in a strip mall right on Route 34 at the front end this time. Signage isn't the best. Actually drove around once to find this place. They have two tables inside, plus 4 high top stools by the front window. Bagels were still warm for my order and was ready in 10 minutes. Noticed that they have 6 flavored carafes of coffee off to the left as you wait. Plus your standard caffeine/ decaf right next to them. The Pignoli cookie flavor peaked my interest but was empty. :( My order was 6 bagels mixed, medium coffee & newspaper. Plus, buy 6 and get one free. Which I made it to a Jersey staple. Taylor ham ( or is it Pork roll down here?) egg & cheese on everything bagel. Prices are fair. My total was about $17. Look I'm not from around here. Having grown up in Brooklyn, NY, I've become accustomed to a certain level of quality which I expect from a "good" bagel store and unfortunately many NJ bagel shops miss the mark. Bagel Hut however, checks all the boxes, putting them in the "great" category. They have: * A Clean and properly maintained kitchen. * Freshly boiled then baked, soft on the inside/firm on the outside bagels. * A variety of delicious cream cheese spreads made in-house. * Quality sandwich construction for traditional fresh lox or egg and meat based breakfast staples. * Wide assortment of coffees/beverages * Some tables to have your breakfast there or on-the-go. * And most importantly, an incredibly hard-working, down-to-Earth, immigrant family man, running the place with old-school, no-nonsense, quality and service. Matawan easily has at least half a dozen bagel options. I've tried them all, and I keep returning to Bagel Hut even though it isn't the closest or quickest sometimes. The food and service are exactly the way New Yorkers expect them to be and every time I go there, it makes NJ feel more and more like "home" for a transplant from Brooklyn like me. read more

I have yet to find a local bagel store that is close to the quality of bagels you get in NYC, and I've been getting my NYC style bagel fix from Whole Foods of all places! Honestly, their bagels are very good, having most traits of a quality bagel: nicely sized, a bit crusty and blistered on the outside, and soft inside. Actually my local Whole Foods sources there bagels from a bakery in Queens (I actually know which one, but will not divulge that information). On a whim, I decided to stop by Bagel Hut; it being the most highly yelp rated local bagel store. Bagel Hut's store is divided into two seperate areas; one dedicated for the bagels and other goods, and the other a cafe/dine-in area. I ordered a Black Russian and Pumpernickel bagel, but unfortunately when I got home I saw that I was mistakenly given a Poppy seed bagel. Ordering foible aside, the bagels were excellent, and nearly on par with some of the better bagels I've enjoyed in NYC! The first thing I noticed was the girth of the bagels.....these are big boy bagels! Secondly, I saw the pock-marked blistered exterior, and finally inside was so warm and soft. Taste was on point too; the Black Russian being the most unique as I was told it's a Rye/Wheat blend along with onion. Well it certainly smelled like onion as the smell wafted in my car. I loved the earthy taste of rye and with a generous helping of whipped cream cheese, I was in bagel bliss. The Poppy seed bagel tasted very good too, as the poppy seeds gave that unique bit of nuttiness in each bite. Another sign of a good Poppy seed bagel was that the seeds were getting stuck in my teeth LOL! A small knock for the ordering problem but Bagel Hut is darn close to NYC quality! read more

I've stopped in here a few times. It's conveniently located next to my hair salon, so it's always quite tempting to go over after and splurge on a yummy bagel! I feel a bit mixed about this place, but one this is undeniable: the bagels are fantastic. Fluffy, filling, flavorful, and taste just like you are in a deli in Brooklyn. Living in central Jersey it's hard to find a REAL bagel shop, bagel hut is the real deal. A few things could use some work, however. First, the coffee here isn't very good. Twice now it's been cold and the dark roast tasted watered down. It was lukewarm another time. I feel like when you have a bagel, you just need to have a good cup of coffee. It just wasn't a great pairing. The ordering process is a bit disorganized despite the signs... order here, pick up here, yet I ordered at a different counter. LOL! The first time I came here I didn't know where to get my coffee cup and I wasn't provided any instructions and when asked was given a vague response. Service seems to be a mixed bag. There is a credit card minimum of 5.00 but they let me slide once with 4.00 and change, which was nice. No one is overly friendly but they aren't not friendly. Professional is a good word. The hut does have ample seating, both in and outside. No one rushes you out, so you can sit and take your time. I've seen kids with their parents eating happily, etc., so I think it's a nice spot to bring the family. I have sat outside grading a bunch of papers alongside a sophisticated elderly looking man reading a newspaper. It was a nice atmosphere, both of us were working and munching on our bagels, serious style. hahah. Overall, 5 stars for the bagels, 3.5 stars for the experience... the mediocre to poor coffee is a huge disappointment and star dropper for me. So is mediocre service. Came here once before & I didn't remember how I felt about it! So I decided to give it another shot. I walked into a pretty disorganized mess with people unsure of where to go to get in a line. It was really hot but what else do you expect on a Saturday morning in the summer? Forgiven. When I finally found my place in line I gave my order. I wanted a blueberry bagel but they didn't have any at the time. I got an onion bagel with light veggie cream cheese & egg whites. My boyfriend and I split home fries. While I waited for my food, I looked around at the coffee area. Not going to lie, the place needs a clean up...... It's pretty grimey...... I touched something, I forget what, but I got something sticky on my hand & all I know is, the thing I touched wasn't supposed to be sticky.... There was shit all over the floor & a mess everywhere. Even the tables & counters needed a deep cleaning. (This is why I gave the place 4 stars instead of 5.) One great thing though is, I asked an employee for an iced coffee. She brought me a large plastic cup with COFFEE ICE CUBES!!! I love that this place just goes that extra mile because there's nothing worse than watered down coffee. She didn't skimp out either, it was FULL of coffee cubes. About 15 minutes later they brought our food out to our table. The bagels were packed stuffed & the bagels themselves were HUGE! Love it. The eggs were fluffy & you could see all the veggies in the cream cheese. The bagel held everything together nicely & it was all really good. The potatoes were also really nice. Although the place is a little disorganized & a little dirty, it won't detract me from going again. I might just take out next time. read more

But just last week I spent $30 on three (!) breakfast sandwiches (pork roll, of course, you know me) and it was sub par. Way too skimpy, way overpriced. Thirty dollars for three sandwiches! Not only are they extremely nice, the food here is consistently the best. Their bagels are better than any surrounding shops, and they have a variety of foods to choose from.
