I have never been so excited to write a Yelp review. And it's taken me months to write this review because it's really hard to put into words what Dr. Hughes has done for me. I started seeing Dr. Hughes in November in 2021. I knew that I needed to get serious about weight loss. I was at my heaviest (245 pounds), and incredibly unhappy with my appearance and state of self. I started taking weight loss seriously in July of 2021. The only change I made was starting to workout. October 2021 rolled around and I hadn't lost a single pound. I was now ready to change my diet and started eating meal prep. I had lost about 7 pounds on my own, but my weight was fluctuating a lot. Losing 3 lbs just to put 1-2 pounds back on. I found Dr. Hughes on yelp and made an appointment with her and my life has never been the same. Jenn (her astonishing nurse) greeted me, took my weight and measurements, and sent me off to Dr. Hughes. Dr. Hughes asked me a lot of questions about my eating habits, work environment, home environment, familial and personal relationships, and mental health. It was clear that she was trying to understand me as a human being and how I exist in the world. She wanted to understand who I was outside of my struggles with weight. She asked me about my weight loss goals and why I had said goals. I set my goal weight at 160, which meant I had 90 pounds to lose. She talked me through her program, the foods I needed to eat, foods I needed to stay away from, and exercise to compliment it all. I began seeing Dr. Hughes weekly, and I saw IMMEDIATE results. Her program WORKS. Her method WORKS. So long as you remain consistent, stay on track, and keep showing up, you will see results. She focuses on filling your diet with leafy greens, lean proteins, complex carbs, and healthy fats. She focuses on eating whole foods, limiting sugar and carb intake, and portion control. Her plan and method is SIMPLE which makes it very easy to stick to. I didn't count macros or calories. I focused on eating the appropriate food groups, healthy portions, and staying hydrated. My entire life has changed since I went on my weight loss journey and started seeing Dr. Hughes. She supported me in understanding my relationship to food, how stress impacts my eating habits, the importance of water, veggies, and lean protein. In October of 2022 I hit my goal weight of 160 pounds. I lost 1.5 - 2.5 lbs per week. The weight came off slowly, but consistently. I never starved myself. I learned how to have indulgences in a smart and responsible way. I learned what a healthy plate looks like and how to measure appropriate portions. I learned how to eat out at restaurants, enjoy my meals, and not go completely off my plan or healthy eating habits. Dr. Hughes was a family physician with her own practice for many years before she went into weight loss. I always appreciate her ability to utilize her expertise from family medicine when treating me. We took into account my PCOS and hormone imbalances in my treatment plan and she acknowledged how these conditions made weight loss difficult but not impossible. Dr. Hughes knows what she is doing and what she is talking about. She is an expert in this field. And she will provide you with recommendations based off of peer-reviewed research and decades of experience in the medical profession. She does not guide you down the wrong path with the latest trends or treatments that are all about the bottom line for doctors. The treatments and medications are effective and she has seen previous patients have success with them. Her recommendations are intentional and can be trusted. The greatest gift Dr. Hughes gave to me goes far beyond hitting my goal weight. Dr. Hughes helped me build my sense of self. We unpacked my life traumas, experiences with anxiety and depression, and how all of those things were related to my weight and relationship to food. Dr. Hughes connected with me on a personal and spiritual level. Her compassion, understanding, and encouragement has brought me to tears more times than I can count. She is the first physician I've ever had that I felt truly cared about me. She made me feel so important, heard, and seen. Her team of nurses (Jennifer & Michelle) are very professional, kind, and accommodating. She creates an environment where everyone is welcome and change is possible. My work with her has helped me find who I am and discover my own power. My transformation with her was more emotional than physical, which is how I know it is real. Many times, struggles with physical health are a manifestation of struggles with mental health. And Dr. Hughes treated my obesity by also treating my mind and spirit. Words will never be able to describe how grateful I am for Dr. Hughes. If you're ready for change and results, go see her. She is worth every penny and minute of your time.

I have been a patient of Dr Hughes since January 2018 and it has been a great journey !!! I have been on a lo glycemic diet plan and along with some supplements in the beginning which I was able to ease off of, I have been able to loose over 36 lbs in 6 months AND eat healthy ! I've also learned how to eat healthy when traveling for work and fun which was originally a stumbling block. I have picked up the right tools to use for a successful path and Dr Hughes and Jennifer and have supportive and wonderful to work with. A+ experience

Thanks to the continuous support of Dr. Hughes and her team, I finally achieved my ultimate goal and made it to the stage! Don't wait to begin your health and fitness journey. Pick up the phone and schedule your consult!

Dr. Uyeki does not take United Health Care Insurance anymore even though UHC's website for 2019…read moresays that he is in Network for 2019. The Dr. says that they have not been with UHC for years but UHC says otherwise. This doctor is very selective about the types of insurance he accepts, and the plans in each insurance company he accepts so before coming here I would first call the insurance company to confirm and then double confirm with Dr. Uyeki's office. This can change year by year so always check each Jan 1 as doctors dip in and out of insurance networks. This Office is closed on Thursdays. They speak fluent Japanese here and that clientele makes up a large part of their practice. This Dr. also does not do x-rays in office anymore but does do blood draws and then sends them out. He used to take blood and x-rays and develop them in office--no more. On my most recent annual exam in 2018 on a Friday, he called me the next day on a Saturday to say all the blood results are okay that he had results on before all were completed. By the following Monday the rest of the results were in but he did not call again to say those were okay--I suspect because there was no problem. But after looking after all the results I saw that one test was not ordered that usually is every year (PSA) so I called the office to report that and they got it tested that week. He did not call on that result, I guess because it was okay. The long and short is that with the way medicine is practiced in Los Angeles for years and the influence of Insurance Companies--you need to be very proactive and keep records to compare on your own. The blood draws here are professional and leave no mark. You have to pay for parking in this building. The staff is pleasant. If you don't have insurance, they do take cash--call and ask them for a quote. This office is part of Cedar Sinai and if they refer you it will most likely be to a Cedar doctor.

When he walks into the exam room, he always starts by asking me how life is going and recalls details I've mentioned during previous visits. He listens attentively when I tell him about symptoms I've been experiencing and plans out clear, logical steps to address them. Anytime he's referred me to be tested for something, he's followed up with me about the results within a day or two of the test. He's smart, genial, and well-connected to great specialists around LA. I totally trust him to manage my healthcare. If you live in the West LA area and are looking for a primary care physician, you can't do any better than Dr. Uyeki.

I scheduled an appointment specifically for a urine test that had already been ordered ahead of time. The visit itself was very brief, and afterward my specimen was allegedly lost by the office. Despite this error being completely outside of my control, I was still charged $320 for the visit and another $200 for the follow up visit to tell me the specimen was lost. Throughout my experience, I often felt like the focus was more on billing my insurance than actually providing meaningful patient care. Multiple visits felt unnecessary and transactional, rather than genuinely focused on resolving the issue. What's most frustrating is the complete lack of accountability. Instead of resolving the issue fairly, I received unanswered emails, calls and generic responses from billing and staff stating the charges would remain unchanged. Patient concerns seemed dismissed rather than genuinely addressed. After speaking with others, it appears this may not be an isolated experience. I expected significantly better communication, professionalism, and patient care from a major healthcare system.

In addition, she's knowledgeable and thorough. Because she's an Associate Clinical Professor of Family Medicine, she keeps up-to-date on the latest medical research. The only minus is that parking at the Medical Center is expensive: $9 and no validation. If you're going for a physical and you think you might need to have some lab work done (i.e., a 12-hour fasting blood test for cholesterol), get a morning appointment for your physical and make sure you don't eat before you go in so you can go directly to the lab afterwards. That way, you won't have to come back the next day just for the lab tests and pay another $9 parking. If you're a hiker like me and familiar with the Westwood neighborhood, you can find street parking; metered in the Village itself or free parking in the residential area. It took me 20 minutes to walk from Midvale and Levering. My wife also uses Shirley as her general practitioner, and she loves her. As much as I hate the drive into crowded West LA (everything I need, I can find in the South Bay), my annual physical is something I actually look forward to.

With managed care these days it has become very challenging for Doctors to take extra time with the their patients, let alone after hours follow up with them. I'm very glad I made the decision to have Dr. Uy has my PCP (Primary Care Physician).

I'm glad I made the switch to Linda for PCP, because my previous doctor assumed I was young and healthy, and would fast track our annual visits, but I would also rely on the data rather than a simple number (my age) to justify my health. I will say some of these comments on Yelp talk about the front desk, but my experience was more of the check out desk, who seemed unnecessarily grumpy that morning. There was a prescription that wasn't send to a pharmacy, and I tried to ask the front desk about it, but she snapped at me and said to ask the pharmacy (with attitude). Next time I could do better and stand on my ground more firmly, but as this review is for Linda Narvaez and not for the front desk/ check out person, I am personally rating Linda as 5 stars.
