I was immediately drawn in by the succulents, and then I saw a bottle vase and, who can turn down a dainty tiara. Need or want. I convinced myself they were all needs. Denise is incredibly friendly and so creative with her visions. I'm planning a wedding (2023) and my friend suggested I check this place out since this is where a lot of her beautiful center pieces and trinkets were purchased. I found more than what I needed. You can tell a lot of love was put into this place. So many little things you may miss if your not looking hard enough. I veered off track and started looking at baby clothes (omg). The outside window decor draws you in --this time it was big stuffed animals in a Christmas theme, and then you go in and see the intricately decorated Christmas trees and wreaths. There is some jewelry that is good for gifts, though I have seen similar for cheaper. If money isn't really and object you can probably find gifts and decor for any occasion. There is a sort of Santa's corner in the back--or at least it had a Santa item in the back, displayed very nicely with other items. Fun place to shop. read more

I LOVE Shelby's Garden! A few years ago a dear friend got me some beautiful yet minimal bracelets from here and I have since purchased many other pieces, really unique stuff and reasonable price, don't think I paid more than $30 for a piece. Was wandering in here a few weeks ago needed some retail therapy, and decided to smell their scent selection, smelled this Capri Blue Volcano hand lotion and went to heaven. The smell immediately comforted me, seemed so familiar but I couldn't quite place it. I go home to research (I thought maybe it was the scent of one of my Vegas cainos and thats why i recognized it lol!) and of course - it's the scent Anthropolgie uses in their stores! Addicting and a known universally accepted scent! To the point where a man stopped me on Laurel and said "Ma'am I'm sorry if this comes off wrong but you smell AMAZING" =) (fun fact for single ladies: based on research men really like citrus or vanilla/pumpkin yes pumpkin scents on women and this is mostly citrus with light floral base notes! Isnt that something...). I asked my husband how he Iiked this because he's never been in an Anthropologie or to Shelby's and he applied like 3x to his hands and sat there sniffing them like Molly Shannon in Superstar. What a fun cute store to browse there is all sorts of stuff the owner must hand-pick everything because it's so charming and there is always something new/fun/pretty/cute to buy! read more

Lovely shop! I work down the block and every once in a while I like to rediscover laurel street and take a little walk. I'm always excited when I get to Shelby's garden, it's such a pretty store, filled with gifts for all occasions, and accented with gorgeous vintage and antique elements. I could spend all day adoring the things in here. There's always an array of unique items, including current holiday decor (Easter being my favorite) jewelry, toiletries, whimsical garden topiaries, even ribbon by the yard (the silks are to die for). My daughter and grandson were in the store on Sunday afternoon shopping and encountered an uncomfortable situation while there on Dec. 6, 2020. I called to speak to the owner Denise, the next day. What a wonderful business woman. She apologized, called my daughter and physically came to my house to drop off a gift for my grandson. She was very gracious to do this very nice gesture. Now that's what I call a grateful business owner who does not want to loose a customer. We stopped in here after having some coffee at SB. It's a neat little place with lots of goodies. As you walk in you'll notice a lawn leading to the doorway. That was pretty cool. At the very back there was a display of teaparty items - cucumber sandwiches, cookies, etc. I was unsure if we were allowed to try the food, but it sure looks tasty. I'd come back here if I was looking for a neat gift for someone...but today was just a window shopping day for me. read more

great little shoppe in downtown san carlos. the storefront is on the smaller side, but they sure do pack a lot of cute things in here! i really like coming in here to shop for anything girly and feminine. they have natural hand creams, female clothes, greeting cards, all natural bath products, and decorations for any season and occasion. they also have some stuffed toys for children. chalk paint is one of their specialty items, so come check this out if you are the artistic type. this really is the cutest store ever. if you're a girly-girl, you will feel right at home here. read more

This little store is so cute. If you're looking for a perfect gift this is the place to go. The staff is really sweet and helpful is anything you need to find. I rented a "Shower Party" stand to stick in my lawn for a bridal shower I threw for my friend. It gave the perfect little touch when people walked up the steps to the party. read more

I love this shop. It has everything I love and it's a perfect place to go to get ideas for craft projects. There are some good deals every once in awhile, too. The customer service varies from time to time. I've noticed that it is difficult to communicate with the salesperson when another customer is there making a big purchase. At those times, I generally just walk out or try and squeeze past. The last time I was there (a few days ago), I was looking for numerous birthday gifts for friends; the salesperson was exceptionally helpful and friendly and was sure to greet me when I walked in. I do have to say that her friendliness and willingness to help me find gifts helped prompt me to make several purchases that morning. They way the store is set up is eye-catching artistic, and whimsical. It's like you take a scrapbook page and turned it into a store. I use to live in San Carlos for many years, moved to San Jose 7 years ago. My hair stylist is in San Mateo and every 6 weeks after my hair appt I swing thru San Carlos and make a deposit at Shelby's Garden. I can always find something I like. It is fabulous for Holiday decorating, and for gifts. Highly recommend. And yes, Denise is wonderful. Her daughter, the shop's namesake, is also a very nice young lady.
