Full of natural light so you can see the true color of the beautiful yarn. They have a few looms out and the selection of yarn is amazing. The owner is very helpful and informative! I haven't knitted in years but was recently traveling in Copenhagen with a friend and she made a point to visit so many yarn stores, I think it rubbed off on me. Anyways, no one greeted us. There were a few customers in the store while some women were crocheting or knitting at a table in the back. We walked by them (I even scooted a chair in) to look at yarns and they didn't stand up or say anything. Finally, dad and his daughter walked over saying they wanted to buy something so I went over to get in line behind them with some yarns. Bad service, nice selection of yarn as well as books and patterns and accessories. Not cheap but organized nicely and easy-to-find items (which is important when there's no one there to help you.)

They even said Jody Long had visited the shop in person- wow! They had plenty of wool, alpaca, silk, and more-- a good, high-end selection overall. The two women who were working were very nice and provided me with a lot of feedback (when asked) on yarns for various projects. I loved their cute Pride display and left with some beautiful Juniper Moon Cumulus yarn. If they'd had more in the colorway I'd chosen, I would have bought more. I don't visit Half Moon Bay frequently, but if I find myself in the area again, I will definitely stop by.

My best friend is a florist and was blown away by our creations. The owner, Melissa, is a gem herself. She's so incredibly talented, creative, and hospitable. In general, I think the shop could have a larger plant selection (lack of selection could be a seasonal thing?). I liked a lot of the planters and option to mix and match plants in them but didn't see a lot of plants that caught my eye. I ended up going somewhere else afterwards and took home 7 plants. There are lots of plants to check out, along with interesting pots and wall containers for them. There's been a growing selection of carnivorous plants as well! Over the past few weeks I've picked up two Nepenthes (tropical pitcher plants) and a very small sundew, and I'm very happy with my purchases. They had some lovely sarracenias (North American pitcher plants) that were tempting but I didn't purchase. This year I've had a renewed interest in houseplants, especially carnivorous plants. My son and I have been trading tips and figuring out what conditions are best for each type of plant. The owner was very helpful with some advice for our fiddle leaf fig plant (in most cases the answer is more light, assuming you aren't overwatering). Once when we come in there were lots of cuttings of succulents being propagated and small sundews being grown; the shelves are full of little surprises like this. Looking forward to our next visit, since I still have room on my plant shelf for one more hanging plant!

I visited a few other needlepoint shops in the Bay Area before finding City Needleworks and I can say that without a doubt -- Elena is the best! The first day I came in, she helped me pick my threads, offered decorative stitch advice, and got me all the supplies I needed to be ready for my first project. A solid 20 projects later, I am loving needlepoint as a hobby and frequent City Needleworks! I get my canvases finished here and find that the finished product turns out amazing and with a pretty fast turnaround time. The threads they sell from the shop are premium (no dmc) and they also host stitch nights, so it's nice to come in and just spend time with fellow needle pointers. I would recommend that if you are interested in needlepoint, a wide variety of cute canvases, and tasteful service, you should stop by City Needleworks!

I ordered them via my local store, received timely updates, and had an excellent experience with the White Glove Delivery. They are just the right scale for my Restoration Hardware Dining table that is designed for small spaces. Sadly on the first use we discovered that the coefficient of friction between the bare wood feet and our tile floor produced a loud screeching sound. According to the Store staff it is not advisable to attach glides to these chairs....I suspect it is that the legs are too thin. I ordered a set of Silicone & Felt Chair Leg Protectors...which did the trick.

The new location is still in cute downtown Los Altos, but seemed smaller than I remember. Rent must be so high for shops downtown. It seemed like their inventory was reduced, too, but it could be that the new shop was arranged differently. Or I may be misremembering. The staff person greeted me immediately and came over to see if she could help me find anything. The store was busy while I was there, which was nice to see. The selection of yarn was good with many brands I'd never heard of before. They had some beautiful silk yarn I was tempted to buy but didn't because I wasn't sure what project I would use it on. They also had beautiful knit and crochet samples throughout the shop.
