My family has been coming to Sheldon's for as long as I have been alive. We drive from PA to visit family in the area and stay overnight in the motel. My favorite part of the trip is enjoying a delicious, made-from-scratch breakfast at Sheldon's restaurant! The weekend breakfast bar has some of the tastiest southern delights one could ask for. Fluffy pancakes, eggs, slab bacon, grits, eggs, fried apples, and the highlight of the meal, biscuits. If I could sit all day to enjoy five plates of food, I would. Additionally, dinner at Sheldon's is just as memorable, though I favor the first meal of the day. Specially, their yeast rolls are life-changers. Trust me. Sweet tea? They have the best. Fried chicken? Don't get me started. You won't be disappointed by any of their offerings. Mr. Sheldon and his family have operated this motel and restaurant for over 70 years. If you find yourself in Keysville or are in need of some serious southern hospitality, take a trip to this hidden gem.

Just good country food from the lunch buffet.

But...since…read morebreakfast choices were a bit more than their sandwiches, I went with the pork BBQ sandwich with slaw. It comes with potato chips. I'm sure I could've up charged to fries or something else but wanted to save some pennies. The waitress offered sauce and I should've taken her up on it as the barbecue was a bit dry, but tasty. The service was friendly and quick. Not much to the inside as far as decor but clean. I was a bit disappointed to find out AFTER I had eaten my meal that I was charged more for not paying in cash. I understand that credit card companies may attach a fee to the use of their card. However, this should be included in the price of the CHOICE on the menu, not a surprise ending on a receipt. It could also be mentioned before ordering and/or printed on the menu above or below the raw food warning. Otherwise, if you're looking for a quick bite to eat and have cash, I can recommend the pork barbecue. Get the sauce.

When we contacted the server and brought it to her attention, even showing her the omelette, she replied, "Oh well, it was supposed to be on there." She then went and checked with the cook. She came back and reported, "The cook said he put it on there, so maybe it's on the other half." Upon checking the other half, we found only 3-4 pieces of mushroom and tomato pieces. Who only fills up one half of an omelette with the ingredients requested!?! No adjustment was made on the bill. Service was less than adequate. No lemon was provided with the water and tea, even after requesting it. No ketchup was provided for the potatoes and onion rings, we had to ask. No butter was provided with the toast, again, we had to ask. Needless to say, we won't be returning. This was our first and last visit.

The bartender greeted me and asked if I wanted the regular menu or was the lunch menu sufficient. I perused the lunch menu, which had several different options. Surprisingly, everything on that menu was half price! What a deal! I ordered the most expensive item, the catfish sandwich, which was only $10. Even though they were very busy, I got my sandwich within ten minutes. They call it a sandwich but there ain't no way I could eat it like a sandwich, even with my big mouth. The catfish came with onion, lettuce, tomato, and some kind of sauce on a toasted sub roll. It came with a knife. I cut off the first bite. It was .......... GREAT! Wow! I have always gotten BBQ or fish tacos before. Fantastic blending of flavors. It came with a choice of a side and I chose fries. The fries were barely alive. Good flavor but partially limp. That was the only negative. I wish I lived closer to Farmville. I would make them regular visits during the week. They keep teasing us about expanding to Madison Heights but no action yet.

The BBQ sauce options were limited and frankly not very good. I had been looking forward to eating here based on things I had heard but it was very disappointing. My wife had an Aperol Spritz that was terrible. The bartender had made it using carbonated water instead of prosecco. She did remake it when we told her it was not made correctly. Hopefully they were just having a bad day.

Lovely decorations and definitely has a 50s feel to it. I got the bacon jalapeno burger omelette, fries and 2 slices of toast are included. The omelette was delicious and chock full of toppings, my only possible complaint would be that the cheese coverage didn't reach the far end. However, that can probably be specified beforehand and its not enough to knock of a star. Regardless of this, I loved it. The bacon and burger were full of flavor and the grilled jalapenos had just the right amount of spice. The grilled onions on top were a great touch. When you're done with your omelette and there's leftover toppings on the plate, you can use fries to sort of scoop them up (awesome). The service was also great. The waitress was talking to regulars, and even asked us what we were up to today. Food came out pretty quick and she asked us if we wanted refills the moment our cups were low. Overall, nice little place. Forgot to get a picture of the food because I was so focused on eating. If I ever come back through the area between the operating hours of 8 and 2 I will certainly be going here. If I happened to pass through after they closed I would probably break in for the pie. (Kidding)

This is a must-visit for diner enthusiasts. The building sits on the north-south main thoroughfare…read morethrough historic downtown Farmville, an area once lined with tobacco warehouses. It is very small, with about fifteen stools wrapping around a classic service counter. According to the menu, the diner is a "One-Master Model 15-Stool Valentine steel building," made by Valentine Manufacturing Company of Wichita, Kansas, in 1955. They have a small parking lot in back of the diner. I parked there and then saw a bathroom entrance sign -- after a 2 1/2-hour trip, nature was calling. It is a very clean bathroom located at the rear of the building, with a separate entrance from the parking lot. There is no access to the restroom from inside the diner -- a unique and nostalgic feature you don't see much anymore. I walked around to the front of the building, entered, sat down on a stool, and was greeted with, "Y'all having a good day so far?" I had a half sweet/half unsweet tea and the Cheeseburger Deluxe with no mayonnaise. It came with lettuce, tomato, pickle chips, onions, French fries, and cole slaw. I put ketchup on the fries, but the fresh tomato alone provided plenty of flavor for the juicy, delicious burger. The French fries were crispy and delicious -- exactly what you hope for at a classic diner. The cole slaw was outstanding and clearly tasted homemade. The pies looked incredible, and because the cheeseburger platter was so good, I had a piece of blueberry buttermilk cake topped with whipped cream -- wow! There is also a clearly posted 3% surcharge if paying with a credit card. Prices are reasonable, so it didn't feel like an issue. This was a great overall experience, and I would recommend this classic, nostalgic mid-20th-century diner to anyone traveling through Farmville. It closes at 2 pm, so plan accordingly!
