We stop at Sheldon's for their lunch or dinner buffet fairly frequently since it more or less halfway between home and a relative's. Lunch buffet is about $10, and it includes very good fried chicken, tasty (but slightly overcooked) ribs, country style veggies (greens, yams, mashed, green beans, corn, those sorts of things), and on this most recent occasion, pineapple pudding (think banana pudding but with pineapple) and blackberry cobbler that was replaced with an apple cobbler later. Meals come with cornbread and fluffy rolls. I've also seen ham on the buffet before. Everything was hot and delicious, better than most steam table fare. You leave stuffed, no matter how hard you try to avoid overeating. Hardly gourmet food, but it is just plain great country eatin'. For the price, it is an excellent meal. read more

I stopped at Sheldon's on my way through the area with only the hope that it would be open on a holiday. I was delightfully pleased to discover that this is a real gem of a rural restaurant; the sort of place where you can get lots of down-home food at a reasonable price. Little family owned affairs can be hit and miss, but Sheldon's pulls it off nicely. The wait staff were polite and prompt and on top of everything, and the buffet food was actually some of the better buffet food that I've ever had. Creepy, is the word. Pulled up and its very empty for lunch time. Couldnt tell it was open or not. There is a motel attached. Humongous place. Dining area to the left bare cement floors. My family has been coming to Sheldon's for as long as I have been alive. We drive from PA to visit family in the area and stay overnight in the motel. My favorite part of the trip is enjoying a delicious, made-from-scratch breakfast at Sheldon's restaurant! The weekend breakfast bar has some of the tastiest southern delights one could ask for. Fluffy pancakes, eggs, slab bacon, grits, eggs, fried apples, and the highlight of the meal, biscuits. If I could sit all day to enjoy five plates of food, I would. Additionally, dinner at Sheldon's is just as memorable, though I favor the first meal of the day. Specially, their yeast rolls are life-changers. Trust me. Sweet tea? They have the best. Fried chicken? Don't get me started. You won't be disappointed by any of their offerings. Mr. Sheldon and his family have operated this motel and restaurant for over 70 years. They close at 8. We arrive at 7:25 and the buffet is still lit up but we were told by one lady that the buffet had been shut off for 20mins. The lady said that we could still eat there if we wanted to. As we were grabbing our plates, another lady comes from the back and says that we couldn't eat there because of how long the buffet had been off and that it was against the food code or whatever. read more

I've just learned that Sheldon's has done away with 2 of their senior employees since new management has taken over. I am only familiar with one lady, Jewell, who served a family from NC last year, along with relatives from nearby. We all enjoyed our meal, but even more than the food, the welcome from our waitress made for a very pleasurable lunch! Jewell kept us smiling with not only her service but also her interest in us and her friendly attitude! No matter how good the food is in any establishment, if I suspect that they're showing any slight to long-term, loyal employees, I will not return. Room was almost 70$ per night. No ice after 9pm...have to go in Restaurant for ice anyway. No coffee makers in room. Was a dead earwig bug in my freshly made bed on night 2. Room was really in need of TLC. Housekeeping didnt make my bed on day 3...left bedspread on floor! Restaurant meals were very good...but I waited 20 minutes for my bisciuts and gravey at 9:45am...with 4 other people in Restaurant ....slow coming with coffee. I travel to the area to visit family almost yearly. Convenient...but will travel the extra miles to a Farmville motel from now on.... read more

It's everything you expect from a motel. Our room was freshly cleaned and included all the necessities (fridge/microwave/TV). We tried the regular size burgers in the restaurant, I can't imagine any of the bigger sizes because the regular was a decent size and juicy delicious. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant with my family for 30 years. It rarely disappoints. We travel between Richmond and Clarksville to the lake and we always find time to stop at Sheldon's. I am not a buffet person and typically won't eat them, but I always have the Sheldons buffet. The home cooked food is always fresh and the yeast rolls and corn bread alone are worth the price! Great restaurant to bring the family to. Great atmosphere and overall service is usually good. Sometimes they get busy but you have to be patient. The food here is incredibly mediocre. It's one of the only restaurants around, unless you drive to Farmville, and I think this place still exists because tons of local people settle for something close, but who knows. I'm almost sure the owner makes more money than he knows what to do with, but I could be wrong. The wait staff here is incredibly nice, though, so that's got to be something. We walked in the restaurant and the waitress never looked up or spoke. We were the only people in the restaurant and waited 10 minutes for her to finish wrapping silverware to take our order. The food was barely warm and when we said something about cold food, the waitress told us the water got too hot under the pans of food and they had to turn it down. Had lunch there today. We both had the buffet. It was delicious. Fried chicken was good and they had so many good vegetables my plate runneth over. Everything looked good and it was very clean. Update: 10/19/17 Today I talked with the owner Dharmendra a Patel, he explained that I was charged the additional money for stains that could not be removed from the linens and towels (coffee and makeup), not because I had stolen them. He was very apologetic for the treatment I received from his employee over the phone. I understood that w whole lot better than being accused of stealing. He even offered to have his employee call and apologize to me as well, which I told him was not necessary, him contacting me was enough. He even offered to refund me my money and did even after I told him not to do because I did have makeup on the wash clothes and my daughter did make a coffee mess. Thank you, Mr. Patel, for reaching out to me and getting this issue corrected. I changed my review from a 1 star to a 4 star. As stated before, the rooms are clean, enjoyed how the parking was directly in front, and the quietness. The spiders were the only terrible thing, and that was because of the little ones. read more

MUST READ AND SHARE . How many of my friends know my mother, Jewell Anderson? If you know mom, you know she has worked in the same place, locally, for almost 27 years as a waitress. She is the hardest working 80-year-old woman ( proud of her age)I know. The local business has changed hands now a couple times. Mom continued to work as hard for each new owner as she did the first owner who hired her. Mom worked the same schedule for 20 years, until Jan.6. Her hours were cut down to ONE day a week. When mom called to speak with her new employer, he told her they were doing some remodeling and needed to cut back. Mom wanted to speak with him in person, and he responded that "over the phone is the same as in person". In our little area, where a hand shake deal still means something, "over the phone" is not the same as in person! So, he finally agreed to give her 10 minutes of his precious time and said he would call her back to schedule a convenient time, but then he never contacted her back. So, Mom being Mom, went by there. She asked him if he could explain to her why she was cut back to just ONE day a week and he told her a different story! He told her that he had received complaints from customers. Now, instead of having a face to face meeting with her to discuss the complaints, prior to cutting her back, he chose to spring this new excuse on her, remember he had already told her the hours were cut back due to remodeling. Mom's long-time customers began to ask why she wasn't there, so the newer girls that work there told them she had retired, which wasn't true. Mom QUIT after her new employer offered her a different position in the kitchen 3 days a week. Mom was making $2.35 an hour plus tips. Which compared to minimum wage, is a drop in the bucket. Of course, mom declined that retched offer. Mom has always been courteous, friendly and presentable at work. She has clients from Keysville to Richmond to Tennessee, that come in just to check up on her. The new owners are not local to our area, so the feeling of community isn't very strong with these folks. I hate to see any business go under, but we all know that if you don't have local support, your business won't thrive. It is my hope that all my friends will share Mom's story. The kicker is when you have to go the register to cash out and the employees that double as hotel front desk clerks and restaurant cashiers make it their mission to blow their cigarette smoke all over your #$%&..... And now for the food. The majority of the food served is from the buffet. Fried chicken, instant mash potatoes, corn, greens. Not really much to say. I do have to admit the yeast rolls were pretty good. Just about every time I was there the rolls were hot and melted in your mouth. If you like rolls GO! We had dinner here and were very disappointed. We skipped the buffet because the food was dried out and congealed looking even though it was 6:45 on a Saturday night, normally prime time in a restaurant. My husband had filet mignon which was inedible, I had fried oysters which were just edible, but that's all. The rolls looked good but were tasteless. Service was slow. The restaurant itself is supposed to be some historical landmark but is really just old and dingy. My wife and I work together. Our business takes us to many locations in Virginia and into N.E., N.C. We can eat wherever we choose. Our criteria is: 1. clean bathrooms 2. good food & 3. being treated nicely. My wife and I go through Keysville, Va. about every 3 months. We look forward to having our evening meal at Sheldon's. We've been doing it for many years, and haven't been disappointed yet. Usually, we'll have the Buffet. My wife especially enjoys their fried chicken; I do, too, but I always try to eat a little of everything, especially over at the Salad Bar. Last Saturday, we passed through there and instead of the "Soup of the Day", there was a pot of the best tasting Pinto Beans that I have ever had. The staff and even the owner, when he's there, take time to speak to us both. We've always left full and happy, and every 3 months, we look forward to our having our evening meal in Sheldon's! Jewell herself has worked at sheldons for over 27 years had greeted and taken special care of each and every customer that ever graced the doors of this restaurant until recently under new ownership our precious Jewell of Charlotte county was forced out due to workplace bullying. In a small community like ours this kinda stuff on how you treat people will leave a bad taste in your mouth ! My family stayed at Sheldon's recently for a family reunion. No complaints on the food or the meeting room. Plus the staff was very friendly. But the rooms need a good bit of work. They seem worn down. Plus it's not very handicapped accessible. We had some family members stay there for the weekend and he had his wife in a wheelchair. Ever try pushing a wheelchair across a gravel parking lot? Plus there wasn't even a little bit of a ramp to get on the sidewalk in front of the rooms. I felt sorry for him having to get her up and down from the parking lot. They asked for a handicap accessible room and were put in a regular room where the wheelchair wouldn't fit through the door. I also think it's not very good when you have to go to the restaurant to get ice for your room. If you need ice after they close, you're out of luck. I lived in keysville for 5 years before I tried Sheldons. Family always said it was good but expensive. Went there a few weeks ago for the breakfast buffet because we were told that, thats the time they have the best food. If thats the best food coming out of Sheldons I will never go back. Food was cold, tasted off, and like it had been there for a long time. Dining is cramped and small. Waitress wouldn't come around until we called another one to help us. Will never visit again. Also if you want drugs and a nasty place to sleep Sheldon's motel is the place to go. Loud people are always hanging out there. I'm afraid my car would get broken into or myself getting mugged if I go there on a weekend night. read more

We didn't eat at the restaurant. The buffet didn't look appetizing. We did stay in the motel for two nights. Typical motel, but not recently updated. Beds were advertised as queens, but were fulls. Myself and my husband had a very hard time sleeping as he is on the large side. The room was clean. It had a mini fridge and microwave and flat screen tv. The front desk said there was wifi, but my kids couldn't connect their iPods to it as it didn't come up on their device as an available service. I was fine with it, but parents that rely on this as entertainment for their children would be frustrated. I am unsure as to the hours of the office, but those that arrive later will have to get their keys from somewhere else because the office is closed rather early for a motel. Bathroom facilities were okay. Water stains by the drain in the shower/tub due to a dripping faucet. All in all not a bad place for the middle of nowhere. read more

We stopped in around 6:00 Saturday evening. We were passing through and were actually going to stop a Cruise in cafe but didn't find it. Since we were hungry we decided to try this place. You walk in and seat yourself. Checked out the buffet on our way through and the food looked old. The place looks old and tired to me. The server came over and asked if we wanted the buffet or a menu. We opted for a menu which was small in choices. I chose the smoked ham. I asked what the sides were and she said pretty much any sides that were on the buffet. I chose green beans. We also ordered mozzarella sticks. The sticks were undercooked. Our server asked if we wanted our sides then or with our meal. I thought that was kinda strange. She was however very friendly and upbeat. They were only two servers and she was hustling. She delivered my ham then went over to the buffet to dish up my beans. The ham was so salty I barely ate any we had been on the road for a long time and just wanted to get home so we just paid and left. Would not go there again read more

I have grown up with the belief that Sheldon's was the place to go for great food, meeting family , friends, and having reunions. Last evening I was shocked to see hardly anyone there this close to Christmas. It use to be the place was packed with hardly a place to sit. I looked at the building and never would I ever think It looked tired and in need of repairs. I had been reading reviews on line and I couldn't believe them. A friend and I met their to chat and have a meal. It was a wrong decision. I looked at the salad bar and it looked wilted, and not very appetizing. We looked at the buffet, and I was more displeased. The black eyed peas were over cooked looked like they had been siting there since lunch.The green beans were the same way slimy, and salty. The tomato pudding looked good until you tasted the sugar, which some people have hard time with. I finally messed with the food until I just left it. I wish this place would try to be liked it use to be. Waitress are very nice and try to be helpful. If things keep on like this one day you might have no visitors. read more

i stayed here from July31, 2015 till august 6, 2015 and the people working at the desk were very nice and very helpful. the rooms were nice and clean except there was cobwebs around the edges of the wall around the bed, which i just took a rag and wiped them down, no big deal, other than that the room was nice, but the shower head was a older fixture and everytime i would turn the knob it fell off. i enjoyed my stay there also except one day i had the do not disturb sign on my door (it was 11:30 in the morning) and the housekeeper started banging on my door yelling housekeeping. i dont think she should of done that, when people are traveling you dont know their schedule or if they got in late that night and some people that were staying there were working. (they should never bang on the door and yell when there is a do not disturb sign on the door.) Yes i would stay here again, but next time when i have a problem with anything i would report it to the manager, which i didnt this time. i also loved that they allowed pets to stay there, cause i always travel with my dog. the rates for the rooms were also good. i didnt eat there so i cant comment about the food, but i could smell the aromas coming from the restaurant and it sure smelled good.:) read more
