My…read more2009 BMW gave me a low coolant warning while I was driving toward the George Washington Parkway and I pulled over into the Exxon station to see if they could put coolant in for me. In the two minutes I stood explaining the problem to Babu--the world's most quietly confident automobile technician--it was clear from the puddle under the car that this wasn't just a low coolant situation. This was a massive coolant leak. It turned out a tube had completely ruptured and the day (not to mention my engine) was saved by having pulled into the station before I got on the highway. I left the car in Babu's capable hands and told him I'd like to have him repair the leak and also do the routine service and recharge the freon as long as I was there. He called the next day with a very reasonable estimate and all the work was done 24 hours later. He even identified a small oil leak I already knew about, and gave the same assessment as my other technician at my last routine service--that it was a small leak, would be hard to repair, and it was a judgment call on my part whether to fix it now or later. I decided to have it taken care of this time, and was grateful to know that two different sets of trained eyes had agreed on the problem and its severity. Long story short: I had a good feeling about Babu when I left the car with him, and an even better feeling after I picked it up!

The quote came back for over $2,000 for brake fluid flush, transmission fluid flush, radiator flush, tire rotation, and oil change with $150 diagnostic fee that would be waived if we went ahead with the work. In giving me the estimate all the extras were rattled off without even mentioning the chief complaint, the shimmy. I paid the $170 oil change, and $50 tire rotation in lieu of the diagnostic fee. The next day I took the car to Clarendon Tire where they did a road pressure balance and resolved the tire pressure sensor for $75. I will never have Anderson Sunoco do any work on our cars. That experience was a disgusting money grab that demonstrated either dishonesty or incompetence.
