Neither was the tap option working so I came in to pay cash to also get the cash price and him and another Mexican lady are talking about the hundred dollars in my hand before I even got to the register did I look sketchy? I wasn't Mexican. I wasn't a bum anyway. I told him that the machine didn't have the sticker and I've seen scam. He's like oh no it's not a scam. I went here to get just to get enough gas to be able to drive to another gas station to get cheaper gas. My fault for not getting it in my own neighborhood. Gas prices are crazy, even worse on the west side of the city. So I'd suggest looking around because there are some gas stations out there that are way cheaper. read more

If there was an option for zero stars this place is well deserved. Cashier was extremely rude. Not pleasant at all. She must have been having a bad day but I was a little shocked. I used my Ralph's rewards number and it said I would receive .40 cents off per gallon and I filled up. I realized it only gave me. 10 cents off which is huge as gas is so expensive right now. When I told her about this she just said, "It happens here." I used all of my Ralph's points and lost all the credit I accumulated. I usually go to the 76 across the street as their cash price is generally cheaper but they were closed. After using my .40 cent per gallon discount I still paid more than the Union 76 cash price. Sucks hard! I needed some water for my car (while purchasing gas and oil here) and the dour-looking attendant points me to the water/air station across their lot. There happened to be someone parked by it and she probably assumed they were using it. (me): - do I need a token or anything to turn it on? (her): - it'll be on for you -thanks Sure enough, it was not on, I trudge back to her -it's not on (she gives a dumbfounded [or should I simply write 'dumb'?] look and turns on a switch) I go back -- still not on. Asked for the key for restroom and this guy was like "you guys never buy anything when you come here." My boyfriend responded with "we do too purchase gas here. Its my favorite gas station." I then asked him if he wanted me to bring a statement in for proof of purchase. (I stopped by in the morning to fill my tank with gas) He replied with "you can go somewhere else if you're going to be talking like that to me" Hell yeah I went somewhere else. Ive gotten gas here a couple of times, and it's on my list of stations to check out on my way home. It's not far from the 10, it's on a far corner so it's easy in, easy out while you're headed to the highway, and it's relatively inexpensive compared to other Santa Monica gas stations. It's not the most expensive -- some stations peak at about $3.15 these days -- but it's not the least expensive, either -- $2.99's not a bad price. It's on the low end of the middle at $3.03 right now. As long as it stays on the low end of the middle, I'll keep it on my list. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! I stopped for gas a couple of weeks ago and the screen malfunctioned after I inserted my card and entered my PIN. I checked my bank account and no charge went through. Pressed for time, I hit CANCEL and CLEAR on the screen twice and left. Later I discovered a $60 charge. Shell customer service recording said to file a claim with the bank, which I did only to have Shell refuse to give me back my money or the gas I am owed. Talked to manager Carolina twice and she confirmed this has happened many times before yet still I am out of my hard-earned $60. These people are scammers. Off to court I go to sue them. read more

I frequent this station regularly using my card at the pump, so I was surprised today when, after swiping my card, I was asked to see the attendant. Had the magnet fairy in my card died? When I went inside, the attendant told me I had to go back to my car to take the fuel pump out of my car and put it back on the stand. (Sub-complaint/sub-waste-of-time.) When I returned, he requested I tell him how much money I wanted to spend on gas. "Fill 'er up, please." But oh no, he needed an exact amount. Ok, wow, I had no idea how much it would cost to fill up. Not only had I never performed this calculation before, I never even considered it, ever! (Do others do this calculation before going inside, I wonder?) There were so many questions that must first be answered: How much gas was left in my tank? (If only the dial on my dash had useful numbers instead of the letters F and E.) How many gallons does my car hold; is it 14.5 or 15? What did the sign say about today's price for regular gasoline? In retrospect I could have solved this riddle using the equation: [(2) + 14.5] x $3.09 = $38.625. But then, to further complicate things, the attendant tells me I must not go over. (The Price is Right, anyone?) Anyway, I must be a simpleton, because with the pressure mounting and a line quickly forming behind me, I decided on $23.00. HA! As you could guess (or calculate - QUICKLY now), I ended up only 73.33% full! (Care to check my math?) So now I have to go back and get MORE gas before the end of the week. Today at around 9pm, I stopped by and asked for air Me: can I get some air? Him: 1 dollar. 1.50, you have to pay, are you a customer? Me: I said no but immediately remembered I heard / read somewhere that there was a law to let whoever ask to provide free air & water. So I sad: "I thought, by law, you are required to provide free air" Him: I dont know about the law. You have to pay or buy something. Then I walked out I googled up just now. Very convenient and yes often times this Shell is one of the cheapest around and like fellow reviewer Peter D stated " it's right next to the freeway and in Santa Monica." The guy that cleans the station is a little questionable especially when he sneaks up behind you and tells you to make sure that you recycle! It's not cheap here, but I like the convenience of this gas station. It's right up the street from Ralphs supermarket, and when I shop at Ralphs I get rewards points I can use at Shell to get a discount on gas. It's also right across the street from the Santa Monica Freeway entrance. Try to avoid it on weeknights, though, if you don't like to wait, because it gets crowded. A lot of people are heading east on the freeway at the end of the day and stop to fill up before getting on the freeway. Best time to get gas here in my experience is in the early morning, before 7:30 a.m. read more

My credit card got stolen and was used for $90 in gas in Houston, Texas. I think this gas stations pumps have been compromised. I usually use my debit card at this gas station to buy gas. Recently I got a call from my bank that someone was attempting to withdrawal a large amount of money in New Mexico. I thought ok someone has stolen my card info somehow. What's unusual is that my wife has used two different cards at this gas station to buy gas and both these cards info has recently been stolen and gas purchased at other gas stations. Whoa! Small surprise here. Prices aren't bad. Actually, they're pretty darn good considering it's right next to the freeway and in Santa, freakin', Monica. Double checked the pumps. Clean, but I still use some GermX right after watching that video on YouTube. It's not that big and can get crowded pretty quickly, especially right after work hours. Not as cheap as the Arco across the street, but you don't get hit with a card fee. No frills, unlike the Chevron across Michigan, but it's usually the same price or even cheaper, and that Chevron has annoying TV sets blaring celebrity news and ads at every pump. read more

This and the 76 station directly across the street are the best places in the immediate area for the lowest priced top tier gas (I've confirmed it on http://gasbuddy.com for the 90404 Zip code). Sure, it's more expensive than the ARCO station across the street, but it's not apples to apples since ARCO is not a top tier gas. However, if you don't value "top tier" certification, then go to ARCO but only if you pay cash or with an ARCO card. Otherwise, ARCO charges a fee. read more

go here! the guy that works there right now smiles and look so happy to see everyone every morning, he deserves a raise. he's also halarious, and getting gas is a major thing to me because sometimes it's my first human interaction of the day! he even told me how important breakfast is to remind me to keep coming back, even though i purchased a 600 calorie muffin. their gas is cheap and convenient because the left turn there takes 5 minutes anyways so i can gas up by the time i would have waited in line to turn then cut through the station to go to work. read more
