My wife, who is 42, wasn't allowed to buy a lottery ticket because she didn't have ID. Fine--maybe that's the rule. But then I, a 36-year-old with grey hair and a full beard, was denied a lighter because I didn't show ID. The cashier insisted it was "state law," which is completely false. You don't even need to be 18 to buy a lighter in California. The staff here move like they're in slow motion and act like they've never been trained. It's like walking into a break room at a retirement home where no one knows what's going on. I'm all for protecting kids from adult products--but that's not what this is. This is incompetence, plain and simple. To the owner: pay a little more and hire people who can think. Right now, your store is staffed with the most clueless group of people I've ever seen in customer-facing roles. Do better.

Now, when I am at these places, all I care about are the following: is it easy to get into the lot, are there plenty of pumps, are the prices competitive, is it relatively clean, does the car wash use "soft" cloths instead of bristles, is it easy to operate the car wash payment station. All of this is A+ here. I don't expect warm and fuzzy, no conversations, no health foods. Just clean, reasonable, and efficient. In and out in less than 15 minutes, which is all the bandwidth I have for doing this. It is also easy to access from the 5North. The only drawback is trying to access it from any other street -- not doable. So, I put up with the inconvenience and make sure I do it on my way home from points south. What else would I like? Well, a full service gas attendant, gratis, but that's only in New Jersey. So, I am happy. As gas/carwashes go, it's a 5.

It takes five cents off a gallon when you enter your phone number. Shell fuel has always been good. Customer service has always been great. There is a small mini mart at this gas station, but there are a lot of snacks and drinks to buy. During the middle of the day it does get crowded, so I often fill up early in the morning. BROKEN DOWN CAR WASH…read more The car wash is old & busted. It's the OLD kind where you pull in and stop, as opposed to the NEW ones like the one near my house, that pulls you through by your tire. So, I pulled in, obeyed ALL the green lights, red lights and the apparatus moved back and forth over my car and it never cleaned the front OR back and only did the sides. I'm not done yet...you also have a wonderful, clean, and convenient drive thru car wash you can purchase for $13...with a bonus of getting 20 or 30 cents off your fuel! I forgot which one it was. Then I was able to use my Ralphs Rewards for more money off!!! The car wash was a "magic wash" better than any of the ones I seen in other shells. But you have to drive onto a track. Someone came out to help me but I was still missing the point. Once I got it, the man was nice enough to actually soap down my front and back windshield by hand! Wanted to try to tip him whatever cash I may have had but he disappeared like a magical elf!!! All around wonderful experience!!!

When they had to refund the cashier refused to refund the correct amount and said "Oh well" when she told him this is not how much it should be. Today, while waiting to pay, a woman who had just filled up her tank went up to the cashier to get her change. She showed her receipt, saying that she paid $60 and the change due was #40, but the cashier would not give her the change or look up the transaction. Stay away from this place, they should be investigated and shut down.
