Recently the shower handle came off in my hand as I was turning it on. I noticed that the metal stem had broken from the Moen cartridge. I went onto Youtube to search for videos on how to remove the cartridge. I followed all the suggestions and was still unable to pull the cartridge out. I had been deferring repair of a very annoying "rattling" of the pipes every time the master bath toilet was flushed because I thought I needed to re-pipe my 60+ year old house at a heavy cost. I finally got tired of putting up with the problem and looked for a plumber who does not do re-piping to give me an honest opinion. I found Shellback Plumbing and Drain on Yelp, and they booked an appointment for the next morning. That's after another plumber told me that his techs were so busy that he couldn't make an appointment for me and that I should call back in four days. Shellback's tech, David, arrived a few minutes early, came in with booties on, and almost immediately diagnosed the problem as a worn out "cartridge." (I used to call it the faucet stem.) Fortunately, he had the part on his truck, so I had him replace both the hot and cold faucet cartridges. He was gone in only 75 minutes, the problem was fixed, and the price was reasonable. We had some water pooling in the front yard and figured it was a leak in the line feeding the sprinkler system, as we barely water during the winter. Shellback sent out Adan, who arrived on time and was a godsend. Adan gave us a clear rundown of what to expect, and once we gave the go-ahead (and the rain stopped) he excavated down to the service line and found the leak...which was over 3 feet down! He was able to quickly make sense of all the pipes he found, and show/tell us what was going on. Adan was always communicative about what he was doing and the next steps, and he was always very polite and professional. I happened to be replacing the garbage disposal in the kitchen sink that day, and Adan answered a few questions and saved me a trip to the hardware store for a couple of clamps, a foot of rubber hose, and a new air gap to connect the dishwasher! Had water leaking from shower under the wall in master bathroom. Called Shellback because of great reviews. Sent plumber and water restoration specialist fairly quickly. They informed me that I had significant water damage and they would file a claim with my insurance on my behalf. Didn't hear from them for about 2 weeks, so I called 3-4 times over the next few weeks. Was promised a call back each time. At least 2 months have passed and I have yet to hear back from anyone. It's extremely disappointing and I can't even wrap my head around why they would treat a customer this way. Now I have to start the process over with someone else. read more

Very disappointed. I had a clog in our pipes in our condo today, sadly a repeat issue I that knew what was needed to fix it. My normal plumber wasn't available so I decided to try out Shellback Plumbing. They sent a out a man named Sergio and I explained to him what was needed. He told me I was wrong and wanted to pull my whole toilet out for $395 when other plumbers I've had there before only charged $85 to snake the line from under the sink. We recently, 8 days before Christmas, had a water leak, and called Shellback. Kevin arrived soon after and began investigating, he then found the leak was in the cement slab and explained the best solution to be a complete home re-piping. Awesome service and responsive to all calls and concerns. We had "Orangeburg" which was a poor material for sewer lines because it absorbs moistures. Well guess what, over time, this can result in the pipe deforming, like flattening, ours was in an oval shape. Which we saw on the camera inspection. This deforming disrupted the water flow and gave us a huge back-up. To make matters worse, Orangeburg pipe is also prone to tree roots growing into it, among other issues. The only reason I have given Shellback Plumbing 4 stars instead of 5 stars is I feel they are heavy on the pricing and I wasn't given a breakdown of the pricing until I asked. Even then it was less than I expected. An invoice should spell out what was done and the hourly wage in this case the hourly wage was $165.00 an hour and $187.50 an hour Wow. You can stop looking for an honest and hard working plumbing company, you found it! Gary has done a great job putting this crew together. Danny, Tyler and Fernando were all amazing. I had a HUGE, multi-phase project, lots of plumbing related components, that I had been planning out and budgeting for, unfortunately I had a water service line that broke that kicked everything into high gear a little ahead of the schedule I had planned... I have OCD, and don't deal well with things not going the way I was planning, and Danny dealt with my crazy just fine. From the morning texts from Jenny in the shop letting me know that he was on his way, to his cleaning everything up every night before leaving, the communication with texts and phone calls during the day when I wasn't home (because I have to work to pay for all this somehow ;-) ) , I was never surprised when I came home because I knew what was going on when I wasn't there. He even discovered a gas leak in the line before the meter that probably saved my house if not my (literal) life. He met the technician from So Cal Gas that was dispatched to fix the line and showed him what was going on. He clearly explained every step of every phase, let me know about a rebate for my new tankless water heater that I didn't know about, got me a great deal on a whole house water treatment system, AND when things went a little wrong with the pipe liner installation with a sub-contractor (you can't always be perfect) he took care of everything and made it right. I should also mention that they had to dig up, back fill, and re-dig up my front yard a few times over a few weeks (I did say this was a big project) in late August/early September. It got hot and they still put in a full day and then some. tldr - exceeded my expectations, and I am a pretty picky person. I did my research, spent literal hours on Yelp looking at local plumbing companies and decided that Shellback was the way to go. No regrets. They have a customer for life. read more

In a greedy, uncompromising world, this looked like a different company. I had maybe 3 calls with them for some plumbing work and each time, there was no roughness in the conversations, and there was willingness to help as soon as they could and a fair price quote when my problem was explained to them by phone. Note that I found no other plumbing company to have ever given me a price quote over the phone. And also please note that not all service quotes can be offered by phone so please do not insist unreasonable things from them. It turned out that when their plumbing technician visited my rental property, he had to do no work because the things turned out to be all good. Yet, he spent about 30 minutes without being upset or arrogant to wait till a SoCal Gas Co inspector came in and confirmed a few things. And for this, this company charged me only a visit fee (and that too because I called it out as with honesty I wanted to pay something to them) that was lower than most other plumbing companies would charge. I would encourage people to go with this company in general and more specifically if you get comparable quotes from multiple parties. I think the way they work demonstrates that the work and business culture that some big companies can only talk about but not put into action 100%, has been steadfastly put into place by this company.
