I purchased my house in October last year and it still had the original water heater, however I put off replacing it since I was pre-occupied with moving in and other priorities. Big mistake! Woke up one morning to a day-ruining cold shower. Using my limited skills, I tried to re-light the pilot light but failed. It would be three more days of cold showers until I finally came across Shellback Plumbing on Yelp. I called them up expecting to schedule an appointment in 2 weeks but was pleasantly surprised when I was told that a technician could take a look at my water heater the next day! Unfortunately, I had to work so I scheduled for that Friday. Darn! Jimmy arrived Friday night to take a look and immediately was able to diagnose that the Water Heater was suffering a crack in the inner core and the pilot light functionality was fried. No problem though, he could come right back the next morning at 10am and install a new water heater. Awesome! And he did come back...at 8am! Even better (because we had somewhere to go Saturday afternoon). With expert skill, he removed the dead water heater, making sure to take all the precautions necessary not to flood my garage, and installed a brand new one with an upgraded pilot light system complete with a new-fangled LED light system. Smashing! And then he suggested common sense upgrades like insulating the piping, among others. He then hauled away the old water heater. The whole job was accomplished in just about an hour. I had them come out and they recommended actually it was Gary recommended that I do a repipe, I thought about it and I thought they would have to jackhammer the house just to find the leak. I called Shellback on Thursday to fix a shower faucet which delivered only cold water. Julio came out the same day and replaced the cartridge of the faucet, and also the pressure balance unit. Julio showed me how the shower was delivering the chosen mixture of hot and cold water. But the next morning, when I wanted to take a shower, the faucet handle worked so hard that I almost could not turn it. I called Shellback and they arranged for Julio to come back out late the next day. I seems that he was unable to make it the next day, and I rescheduled with the dispatcher for him to come out Monday morning. Monday morning, Julio came and again replaced the cartridge, but the handle still worked much too hard. Julio had taken out the first replacement cartridge and it worked smoothly in his hand, and so did the new (second) replacement cartridge, although when he put it onto the shower faucet, it worked incredibly hard. Didn't make sense. I sat and thought about it: handle shaft turns easily when you hold the cartridge in your hand, but incredible hard when its on the faucet; it must be binding somewhere, but all that holds it onto the faucet is that it fits next to the pressure balance unit, and is held on by 3 screws which Julio tightened securely. So, it must be the 3 screws are too tight, no? I made that suggestion to Julio, who backed off the 3 screws, and the faucet worked fine. My point to this story is that only a technician with 100 years of experience on this particular model faucet could have foreseen this problem. It was a pleasure to deal with a service provider who boasts of and follows through on a mission of integrity. In my case, a problem arose, I only had to call to get what was really the company's and the technician's very best efforts to resolve the problem. Julio spent hours trying to solve my problem, and ultimately, we solved it. I believe that many other companies would have given me a supplemental bill or, trying to cut their losses, would have merely refunded me any charges and disappeared, leaving me with a problem that I hadn't had before I called a plumber. Julio is a very nice young man, and in my opinion, he handled this problem in a very professional manner, both technically and with integrity. Shellback Plumbing and Drain also handled this problem with precisely the integrity which they advertise. Based on my experience, I will be glad to call Julio at Shellback Plumbing and Drain for any future plumbing problems, secure in the knowledge that their integrity is not merely an advertising gimmick. read more

My water main sprung a leak and Gary was able to save me thousands. The pipe was irregular and other plumbers said I needed a "full water service" from the meter in the street to my house. However, Gary located a shark bite fitting that he was willing to try before committing me to such an expensive job, and it worked! Can you put a price on honesty? Gary came to my house to do a routine cleanout clearance with a snake. The snake got stuck 10 minutes into the visit (usually that's not good news to a customer). The problem was a poorly designed cleanout by a previous plumber from over a decade ago. The poor design allowed tree roots to grow into the line. Gary gave me great price to build a new, more efficient dual cleanout system that was a better fit for my house's drain system. He and his team were curious, professional and most importantly... worked CLEAN! When I got home in the evening there wasn't a shred of evidence that there was any digging in my flower bed area or driveway. The valve to our house broke cause I thought I could do the job and save some money, NOT! Called late Tuesday night and Gary said he'd be there first thing in the morning. Showed up right at 8:00, looked at it, gave me a price (less than I had thought), went and got the proper size and got the valve replaced with a way better unit (very professionally installed) and fixed the drip problem in the upstairs bath too. We just moved into our wonderful circa 1973 condo apartment in Sherman Oaks and we love it. However, our kitchen sink was also circa 1973 and its ancillary workings were in a mess. Thankfully, we had taken a shower and it was scorching 106 degrees outside, so taking a cold shower wasn't a problem for me, but not for my 3 year old and my 7 month old babe. Without thinking, I had dumped a bunch of uncooked rice down the drain. As a result it clogged the gears of the disposal. I called Gary at Shellback in a panic to see if someone could come out to fix it. Gary thought it could be a quick fix, and walked me through manually moving the gears so that they would work again. Hot water heater goes out at our house on a Thursday night. Drive over to Lowes at 8AM on Friday morning because they advertise "call before noon, same day installation". I'm getting ready to pay and they say "Monday at the earliest". I pay anyway because what choice do I have, then call Shellback as a backup because we'd used them on our rental property and we were pleased. They were there at 10AM and done by 2PM. Worst experience ever with any plumbing company. Refused to install the correct size replacement faucet. Also, after the wrong faucet was installed water leaked all over the bottom of the cabinet!! Also, water sprayed all over the area behind the sink. Now we we have to hire another company to to fix it correctly! Very unsatisfactory‼. ADDENDUM: Management fully knew about this problem!!!.
