I recently used Shelley Bros. for my mother's grave marker. I'm an artist/designer, so I needed someone who could work with me on a highly customized design, working me through options and details of manufacturing, and be able to handle artwork I created for carving into the granite. Shelley did not disappoint, and I'm extremely happy with the outcome. Technically they are flawless, having direct control over the entire manufacturing process, and design-wise they were able to interpret my intention, and add 3-dimensionality to my 2D drawings as discussed. The only slightly negative part of my experience was that in the beginning they were very busy, and not available yet to work out the details of my order. However, they knew our deadline the entire time, and got things done when it needed to be, which is what counts. I supposed the details just didn't need to be worked out as early as I had anticipated. I would absolutely recommend them, and I will be continuing to work with them on our family headstone. read more

When I was selecting a headstone for my family member, I wanted one that was similar in style to the headstones of other family members. They helped me pick out the right size, style, and materials for the stone, and were willing to exactly duplicate the style of the lettering from the other family headstones. When the stone was completed, Shelley Brothers did all the coordination with the cemetery to in order do the installation of the stone at the gravesite. It is very difficult to loose a loved one. While grieving, decisions and arrangements need to be made for burial. I recently lost my husband and found Shelly Brothers in Guilford to be both compassionate and helpful. They walked me through options and cost and never did I feel pressured to choose anything specific. They listened and even agreed to meet a second time so that my daughters could be involved in the decision process. Once a plan was drawn up they completed the stone to our specifications. Today, I drove into the cemetery to see the stone placed and am extremely pleased with their work . Shelley Brothers have been in business for many years. My family cemetery is Alderbrook in Guilford, CT close to Shelley Brothers. I purchased a flush monument from Ed Vroman in 2007 after the sudden death of my Dad of a heart attack at age 70, and while Ed seemed somewhat aloof, he did create a stone for me and I was very satisfied. As my family has always used Shelley Brothers, I went back to have an upright monument created later for my Dad's grave since his remains were placed in a different area. Now, I live up in NH and drove several hours to meet Mr. Vroman at the cemetery in September 2014, where he took a tracing to recreate the same size and shape of my great grandfather's monument at the cemetery, and the plan was to add a butterfly to the top of it where in the example there had been a cross. I received a quote by e-mail from Shelley Brothers which I accepted, and they accepted the deposit for half the cost, which was a deposit slightly over $2,000.00. Once I started sending e-mail trying to get the design at the top worked out, I received no replies at first, then an unexpected reply basically telling me to get lost. While I was slow with dealing with them because I have heavy family caretaking responsibilities, they never warned me or let me know I was doing anything that would make them want to stop working with me. I am dismayed and disappointed, as now I have to start all over again, when Ed had agreed to work with me and I agreed to their price. I was not warned they didn't want to work with me or given parameters to work within. Read for yourself, but if I were a person looking for help with a monument, I certainly wouldn't want to deal with a company that wasn't able to do better than this. In fact, their web site is full of claims about how they welcome your questions during such a daunting task of preserving a person's legacy with a monument. Judge for yourself, this is verbatim e-mail exchange: April 1, 2016: Hi Stephanie Ed said you will need to get him what you want for the 8x10 raised carving in order for him to order your granite. I called after getting this e-mail and talked to Donna, who advised me to send an e-mail instead of calling, so I sent this: July 8, 2016:Hello Donna, I found a butterfly image that is somewhat close to what I'm looking for. I'd like it to be straight up and down as opposed to flying sideways, and I'd like it not to include the vines or flowers inside the circle. Is Ed able to take this idea and mock something up for me to look at that could adorn the top of the monument, what would be next steps to finalizing the image to g on the front? Can you send me some suggestions that might include a little nature with the butterfly, like some evergreens and mountains in the back? Let me know if this is asking too much, or if I should do a sketch first. July 11: In any event, who does the artwork for the monuments at Shelley Brothers? Is there laser carving, so you can provide a picture that gets scanned? I am an artist and a photographer, but unless I know what you can work with, I don't know how to work with your company.
