Not that Shelley's needs another raving review, but I was very satisfied with Shelley's service, professionalism, communication, and honesty. I originally took my truck to a nearby shop and was told that I needed all new brake pads and rotors, as well as new shocks. I was surprised because the weekend prior I had the truck inspected when I took it in for an oil change. Given that the nearby shop wanted to charge me well over a thousand dollars, I took my truck to Shelley's for a second opinion. My experience here at Shelley's was incredible! I just moved to TO, and I wanted to find my new go-to smog check place. I began calling some places; another place I called locally says that they charge $75-80. Next was this place; called at 12:15 PM on a Tuesday to see if they had any availability and they said to come on by & the price was around $60! Immediately when I came in, Garrison introduced himself as the gentleman on the phone & he took care of my request right away. He even offered Porto's cookies (available for all customers!). I saw online for the other place that it took about one hour, so when I asked him how long he would need, he said that he could be finished within 10 minutes! I sat outside, waiting on a bench, and the mechanic Jerry came out within five minutes, and said that my car was ready!! He was also so friendly and polite! I am so happy to have found my new smog check place -- as a woman coming to these places myself, I am always worried about being upcharged or scammed, and I felt so welcomed, comfortable, and well taken care of! A solid mechanic. I take my Prius prime and my fiat 500e here about once a year when routine maintenance is due. Every so often or VERY rarely will I take them to the original dealer mechanic because they charge far too much for far too little. Shelley's has reasonable prices and a decent wait time: usually same-day service. The only gripe I have is that, in the past, their reservation system was extremely inconsistent and it took some persistence to reach a customer service rep to schedule an appointment. I think they're a lot more consistent nowadays however. read more

My trusted mechanic retired so I didn't know who to go to when my check engine light came on. I asked my friends and they recommended this place with the caveat that they are honest and expensive. As a first time customer, I would come back again and my rating is 4 stars based on the average of service work, billing, and customer service. Here's the breakdown: Service work & explanation = 5 stars Billing & credit card fee of 4% = 4 stars Customer service = 3 stars My hubby dropped off the car on Friday and we were supposed to get a call back for the diagnostics but that didn't happen. They closed at 5pm so we had to wait over the weekend and reach out to them on Monday. They were so busy with so many people and cars being dropped off, that we had to try 3 different times to get an answer. Once we found out what the issues were and authorized the repairs, we had to wait until the parts came in and got the car back around 3pm on Tuesday. I had to call on Tuesday to see when it would be ready for pickup and this time I got a call back, albeit 3 hrs later from when I called. If you're not in a rush for your car, then this place is ideal. They are so busy and since this place has a reputation of being honest, everyone wants to go to them so there's going to be a wait. It's not a deal breaker and having honest people is worth the peace of mind in the long run, but it's something to consider if you have appointments lined up. I paid by check to avoid the 4% fee but I am disappointed to see them pass down the cost to the customer since they are expensive and have high volume of clients.... read more

Paul and Jerry are my hero's! This past Saturday, I heard intermittent grinding from the back, right hand bottom of my car. Since it was late afternoon I decided to book appointment online for Monday morning with Shelley's Precision Auto Center. I've heard nothing but great reviews about Shelley's Precision Auto since the 60's even when I lived in the San Fernando Valley! Family owned business. I planned on having my car towed there. Monday morning I called Shelley's Precisionton Auto to explain my situation. Dave told me as long as my car was driveable there was no need to have it towed. I only live a few miles from their shop. I planned on dropping it off and leaving it overnight should that be the case. They are a busy shop. I asked them to change my oil and transmission fluids should it needed to be done since my car was being checked. I did some research online and my imagination took off, the trouble could have been bearings, transmission, etc. All I kept thinking was here goes my life savings. :-) Too my surprise my car was ready in just a couple of short hours. It was not a mechanical problem. However, it was caused by the driver! Honda Civic's are low to the ground so when I parked in a parking space that had a cement block, my front bumper scraped above it and loosened the bottom panel and caused it to hang down. My car got serviced, oil change, etc. and panel repaired and bolted back in where it belongs. My car rides like a dream Thank you Dave and Jerry for providing fast, friendly service with a smile. I was relieved from the minute I spoke to Dave on the phone and Jerry who had the deed to give me estimates. I new my car would be left in good hands. Repair and service cost for all the work that was done on my car was affordable. The issue got fixed, but a 179 charge to diagnose a problem that doesn't go toward a repair is too high. They might have the same name, but it feels like a different company now. The quality of service hasn't changed, but it feels like priorities have. Shelley's used to be the kind of mechanic where they would quote a cost and come in under. Shelley's has one shining star--Carson (the owner's son). Professional, honest, and actually listens. He quoted my Ford 2020 GT350R correctly for an oil change and even called to clarify the price due to the car's make. I was genuinely excited to try a family-owned business, especially since I work for one myself, and had heard they were great with American cars. So when the slightly older "service manager" arrogantly assumed my car was a Nissan, I was like, surely you're joking. I had already given him the exact specs twice, yet he ignored them, made his own incorrect quote, and then blamed Carson for "not knowing" the right price--when Carson had been right from the start. I could hear him talking down to Carson in the background, and the way he spoke to the owner's own son was arrogant, condescending, and toxic. He promised to call me back with updated pricing--never did. When I called, he said he "figured" I wasn't coming. Unprofessional, dismissive, and bad for morale. If you call Shelley's, ask for Carson. The service manager? The only thing he's managing is to drive customers away--while poisoning his own team. read more

My issue is being charged twice $179 for inspection charges. Which I was not told about. Need to be upfront about that especially when I called first and told them my issues. I would have shopped around. Now my husband said it's on the wall...sorry I didn't read the wall. One for a check engine light which they said was a catalytic converter that they could not fix, I had to take to a muffler shop (Chapo Muffler in Oxnard did a great job at a great price and didn't charge for inspection) I could have gone to Auto Zone for free to read what's the problem. Another $179 to inspect what's wrong with the AC not working plus another $89 to remove and replace blower motor. Plus $95 for parts. They did fix that perfectly so far.... read more

Brought car in for a battery check engine light. $100 to do a quick electrical check. $450 for a rebuilt alternator that I could have bought online for $200. Charged 3.5 hours for at most should take an hour. Grand total $1300 to replace a $200 part. I questioned the crazy markup on the part and the excessive labor charge, to no avail. They charged me $53.70 in labor just to replace a 97¢ license plate bulb. As a 22-year-old girl, I can't help but feel a bit taken advantage of. I brought in my 2014 Ford Fusion for an oil change and a driver-side headlight replacement, and then they wanted to replace my license plate bulb, and the total came out to $413. My fault for agreeing without asking more questions, but I know now most shops charge less for the same work. Maybe this is standard at some places, but it felt excessive to me. I had an appointment scheduled this morning at this shop. I get there only to hear that they cannot do my oil change. My question is then why did u schedule it a week ago when I called?? The guy was rude to me and almost yelled at me trying to tell me how stupid I am for thinking they can do an oil change at 11:00. They are the ones who said Yes when I called and scheduled it. I left there very disappointed as I have been taking my car to this shop for many, many years, so has my daughter and x-husband! They will not after I tell them my experience this morning. When you have an appointment, you think that it will be respected, but I found out that's not true! I would've handled the situation way better if I worked in customer service! Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Extremely unrighteous uncharge on auto parts Came here for a purge valve canister replacement got ripped off of my hard earned $350 in total and that is without the diagnostic. I got charged $170 for a part that's only $60 at most auto part stores and another $170 for a barely 30 minute long repair process. Same fix wouldn't have cost more than $260 at Grand American Tires. A mark-up of %200 is insanely DIABOLOCIAL and UNJUSTIFIABLE in anywhere in this world. A few months later I returned because I had tried to replace my right daylight bulb by myself and failed miserably. Not only did I fail at detaching the old bulb, but I dropped the cover and couldn't find it. They took care of me. After being referred here by a friend I tried for two days to get through to someone on the phone (should've been my first clue) I scheduled an appointment to drop my truck on Tuesday evening so they could look at it on Wednesday. Wednesday comes and goes with no update. Thursday, I try for multiple hours to get ahold of them. Finally reach them and they don't know what's going on with the truck and need to go check with the mechanic, no big deal. No call back. Try for another hour Thursday afternoon and I'm told they think they found the problem and they're trying to get the parts and they should have it fixed Friday afternoon. No call Friday, shop closes for the weekend. I call Monday to explain to them that my truck is full of tools and it's how I make my money as a General Contractor and that I need to get it back ASAP. They tell me the technician was out sick on Friday and is still out but they'll try to get someone else to do it. I call Tuesday and am told if I need it right away I should come pick it up because they don't have anyone to fix it. So after a week I pick up my truck, problem unresolved, dirty and covered in bird shit. If you roll the dice and take your vehicle here I hope you don't mind having to chase them down for an update and have better luck than I did. read more

Honest mechanics, fair prices and lovely people. The coolant indicator on my vehicle went off and I noticed the tank was low. Wanted to make sure there wasn't a leak or worse, so I took in to Shelley's to make sure. After pressuring the hose overnight to check for leaks, they found nothing wrong with it and said the low fluid level was just due to evaporation over time. Gotta love it when you take your car to a mechanic and they tell you nothing is wrong. You can trust Shelly's Precision Auto! On another note, I think it's kinda sad that someone gave them a one-star review for choosing not to work on their modified vehicle due to safety concerns.
