Today was our first time seeing the menu at Shelly's and at first glance things looked pretty decent. I was not expecting too much from this restaurant though, it's just too small, for a full service restaurant. Remember that this place was originally a Dairy Queen from the 1950's. Size is important for a good quality restaurant. The first thing is the staff is nice and friendly attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The experience of the cooking staff was an experience that was not what I expected but it happens wherever you eat. Sometimes it goes wrong sometimes it's good, the omlet was not cooked properly and still had runny eggs in it. The biscuits and gravy were spot on and my wife's sunny side up was cooked properly. Overall we had a great time at Shell's and they served a great cup of coffee! We will be back to this little place everyone has a bad day

Cuba, Missouri --- Shelly's Cafe" (since 2012?) is a Route 66 neighborhood local favorite eatery ... owner operator "Shelly" workin' the grill next to grill-master "Willis" (real sorry about the blurry pic Willis ) ... my breakfast "Stack" was enormous & tasty-riffic PLUS great presentation ... "Been There, Seen It, Done It" over the years of traveling Historic Route 66 (5 times) and always look forward to the Shelly Cafe smiles ... "Run-A-Way Bill" was here! ... and will return 07.17.20

Tiny cafe in a tiny town. 95% locals yet you're made to feel welcomed. Patrons told us to grab a seat when we walked in. I got the vibe everyone knew everyone and this is the place for locals to catch up on the latest. Our server was attentive, establishment is not large but works. Food was absolutely delicious. I had blueberry pancakes that didn't even need syrup, son destroyed his bacon and cheese omelet with hash browns and toast, and spouse got ham steak and eggs with American fries. We usually go to Lebanon for another delicious diner but we just found another great place to change it up.

    Not sure....

Once again, breakfast all day! Bacon was awesome. Nice thick cut, not the thin stuff you get some places. Eggs cooked perfectly. Biscuit was GREAT. Service was pretty good and prices were reasonable. Strange layout to get to the restroom, but oh well....

We stayed in the oldest operating hotel on Route 66 located nearby for a night. Before we headed out we had breakfast at Shelly's. Great staff and food at a great price. A lot of character inside and out. Parkings no problem and we plan on stopping by next time we head down Route 66.

What a fun restaurant on Route 66. We stopped in for breakfast and ordered the daily special and pancakes (order the sausage for sure- slightly spicy). Both were delicious.

Is there a friendlier place or a better place to have breakfast in Cuba? I don't think so. Sweet cafe, good food, nice owner. Go!

Ours was Ashley and she was attentive and informative. The meat lovers omelet I had was just like me at the end of my meal, stuffed. Most omelets that I have had, which is a lot, that say they have cheese in them, the cheese is hard to find. But not here, the cheese ( your choice of cheese, was front and center. My hash browns were crispy nor soft and soggy. My wife ordered her eggs like she enjoys them and they were not exactly right so Ashley took them back and the next set were, to quote my wife, the BEST, she has ever had. The sausage she got is made right there and was outstanding. We learned from Ashley that the owners were in the kitchen fixing the food and source the burgers and steaks from their own cattle. They also bake the pies and cakes on site. We now have a place to bring visitors to our home in Saint James, such a real great find. The bathroom was neat and clean and parking is plenty and an easy walk for older patrons. Please stop in and let them know that the 'spoon player' sent you. Plus they do offer a military discount Oh and great music for dining ambience

The staff is always friendly and welcoming each time I have visited and overall feeling you can spend all day in this place and feel at home. I came today to try their coffee flights. Then theme was St Patrick's. They are small which is perfect because anything bigger would've sent me flying on the sugar! Each drink was different and thoughtful. The flavors blended well with the coffee. I would've liked to have tasted more of the coffee but I have no complaints. This round of flights was tasty with my favorite being the Lucky Charms which tasted like they infused cereal milk into the drink and the Clover with white chocolate, peppermint and vanilla with that striking green hue. They change their flights often, so give them a follow on FB and Instagram to keep up with what they have next.

I had a Dirty Chai, which I really loved: espresso, chai spice and steamed milk. It was just the right sweetness. The building used to house a hat factory and they have examples of them above the doorway to the restrooms, which were clean and bright, like the rest of the place. Just kind of a cool place all around, and like I said, definitely would go back again! Close to the Amtrak station and the riverfront, and in the historic area of downtown Washington.

A Chia-Tea-Espresso Disaster at Art & Joe's…read more I approached Art & Joe's Expresso Bar and Art Showcase with the anticipation only a true aficionado of the "Dirty Chia" could muster. This drink, a harmonious blend of spicy chai tea and the divine elixir of espresso, is more than a beverage; it's an indulgence that elevates any day into something special. On this crisp fall day, I ordered my beloved Dirty Chia, expecting to savor its wonderfully warm, spicy notes, perfectly complemented by a robust espresso shot. However, what I received was an affront to every sensory expectation: - The Aroma: Instead of the anticipated spicy chai and rich espresso, my senses were met with... nothing. No inviting scent to prepare my palate. - The Taste: That first sip was a shock. What should have been a symphony of flavors was a cacophony of blandness. It was as if someone had diluted table tea with Folgers, stripping away all character and warmth. - The Aftermath: My heart, once full of hope, now ached for my beloved St. Louis gem, Kaldi's coffee, whose reputation was besmirched by association with this debacle. With a heavy heart, I turned away from the counter, my steps slow and deliberate, as if mourning the loss of a cherished memory. Out on the quaint Main Street, where nostalgia typically hangs in the air, I found myself discarding what should have been a moment of joy into the nearest trash bin. Rating: No stars. This was not just a missed mark; it was a misrepresentation of everything a Dirty Chia stands for. I am left baffled that Art & Joe's, a supposed staple in this charming hometown, could serve such a travesty. For those who cherish the magic of a well-made Dirty Chia, steer clear until they reconsider their approach to this sacred blend. to complete the post I was forced to award a star, so this is the token star.
