1st bartender: asked for my order then my friend's, then mine again because he forgot, then my friend's again because he forgot and then mine again. Basically could not remember 2 drinks at the same time. 2nd bartender: recognized her from the local post, she actually got her manager there to throw several people out just because she didn't like them. 3rd bartender: took any drink you set down even if it was full. To the person who said that they skip your songs for regulars - not at all true. Those regulars just know they can use the app to sign up before they arrive. The only way a singer gets "skipped" is if they don't go up to the stage when called. Then, in order to keep things moving so that more people get to sing, the next singer will be called up. This is one of the most fairly run karaoke rotations in town! On Saturday nights, the host won't even take tips to bump people up. read more

I get my nails done in the same plaza as this bar. I finally decided to check it out and I've been going back every since. I love it. The bartenders are always friendly, the drinks are cheap, the food is good, and it's a great place to play pool and listen to music. They also have Karaoke in the back, every 1st Saturday. Yes, I said in the back. Lol the place is huge. I'd been there about 5 times before I realized there was a back karaoke area. After visiting a fancier upscale overrated bar in the Domaine I was on the hunt for a dive bar. Well I found it and this is not only a dive bar it's a dive nightclub. Yep that's how it advertises itself and I have to say they nailed it. Shenanigans is HUGE. So big that it seems there are no people there but if you look around you realize it's more crowded than it looks. There are lots of pool tables (free) and there is darts and table shuffle board, pinball etc. So lots to do. And there is a stage. This night that was an 80s band that were awesome. I saw that they also have karaoke here. So basically something for everyone. Drinks were very cheap and staff was nice enough. This place seems to have a very friendly crowd. I had a great time and it would definitely be a regular place for me if I lived in the area. read more

Whenever I witness a domestic violence disturbance on "Cops", I imagine that their night began at a bar like Shenanigans. What's amazing is that I have nothing but good things to say about Bum's Billiards. But those rare, fleeting moments of goodwill I feel for Bum's never fully transcended over to its shabby cousin across the strip mall. I found myself here a few nights ago, since I was subject to the whims of my friend Jersey and the ex-boyfriend issues that had cropped up since her recent return from the Land of Snooki. We began at Bum's, where I ended up fighting with the country mice over the jukebox. Those Wonder Bread bitches tried to drown out my Lady Gaga with Johnny Cash, but the efforts were futile because they just didn't have the "cash" that mattered. One shot led to another, and so we opted for a change of scenery and went to Shenanigans. Although the bright lights of neon domestic beer signs and NASCAR-themed pinball machines isn't all that different across the way. Shenanigans is set up like any suburban watering hole, with the usual staples of pool tables, dart boards, and that ridiculously depressing feeling of smoky desperation. But hey, a drink's a drink--and I had a straight girl and a couple of her straight friends as buffers. The bartender was a girl who was not very friendly, but I didn't take it personally. How would you like slinging drinks for inebriated old men huddled around the bar? There's not really a whole lot to do here, except drink and hope that your friends get tired enough to leave. If memory serves me correct, they sometimes have a karaoke night, where girls get up on the stage and sing the same three Taylor Swift/Carrie Underwood/Kelly Clarkson songs on rotation for a few hours. Guys with backwards hats and passe Ed Hardy T-shirts are usually found throwing darts or playing pool. Thrilling. I had fun because I was with Jersey, and I could smoke inside. By some unbelievable loophole, we're allowed to smoke, which might be the one and only reason I would ever "look forward" to returning. Basically, I think I'd prefer to keep *my* shenanigans safely--and more appropriately--downtown. read more

This could be my new favorite near-to-home happy hour joint. I went here at 5pm with a friend and a plan for some Wednesday evening drinking and bar games. It was nice and quiet in the cavernous bar, with the jukebox playing classic rock at just the right volume. Approaching the bar, I see Jameson Gold shots on special for $2.50.. (!!!) The last time I was in here, a month or so ago, I noticed the draft beer taps held Bud Light, Coors Banquet, and.... Real Ale Devil's Backbone?? Guess what, they still have DB on tap and they don't serve it in bullshit 10 oz glasses just because it's 8.10% ABV! I order two of those tripel ales and a shot of super smooth Jamie Gold. She says "that'll be $11." Friends, that's how we keeps it real on the NW side. Real cheap. We get some darts at the bar, and play a game on one of their 4 boards. Some blowhard's loud talking urged me to get far away and play a game of pool instead. Getting away is easy here because the bar is so big. I try to get change for the pool table from the waitress, who informs me that POOL IS FREE. Fuck yeah, this night keeps getting better. We play some pool, then shuffleboard (also free), then get a little hungry. I ask if they still have a cafe in the back. Nope, they haven't in about 4 years. Whoops, that's about when I wrote my first review of Shenanigans. BUT, we can order food at the Jardin Corona next door (solid Mexican food), and they will deliver it to you she says. Sweet! I run over, order tacos, and they're brought TO THE POOL TABLE, about 10 minutes later. Drinking, eating, playing pool, and feeding the jukebox. All for about $40, including tips. And they don't allow smoking inside anymore! What's not to like? read more

Somehow, I was convinced into coming to Shenanigans by my friend who called this place a "shitty dive bar," but according to her, dive bars are supposed to be shitty, and she was excited (before we even saw the flashy sign outside). It did not turn out to be how it was described to me, but better. It was much cleaner and quieter than I expected, but it was a Monday night after all. "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys welcomed us as we walked in (and other Backstreet Boys songs came on throughout the night). It really set the vibe, along with the TVs, pool tables, darts, and lighting inside. The drinks are very cheap (but $10 credit card minimum), so that's definitely a plus. By the end of the night, I had decided that Shenanigans was a classic (and would make a great movie set). I have a feeling we'll be back. read more

Everytime I have gone to Main event, i always end up here to finish the night off somehow. With that said, it's because all my friends are karaoke fiends. Which for me its okay because Shenanigans has some great drink specials most nights. The place is pretty big and even if you dont like karoke, you can play shuffleboard, pool, and darts. There are plenty of tables and chairs around though I think more could be placed on the dance floor since no one really dances, or at least when Ive been there. Some of the shorter chairs probably should be replaced as the padding looks pretty grungy and old. The high chairs are much better imo. They have a special every day of the month and some of it are pretty funny and witty. For sipping I usually get Angry Orchards cider and theyre $4 bucks a pop. Its a $10 minimum for credit cards and its probably worth just keeping your tab open because they will only let you charge your card twice if you keep closing it. read more

A diamond in the rough if you're looking for simplicity and good people. My friend and I are new to Austin and we went looking for "karaoke" bars and we scoped out 2. One was Graham Central Station(nice if you're teen and like country music) and Spotlight Karaoke(unfair KJ, poor karaoke selection, smokers). We drove by Shenanigans and saw that they do karaoke as well. So we gave it a shot and we were very surprised. The drinks are reasonably priced and the karaoke is what really surprised us. They have a better selection that some of the other places that specialize in karaoke. The crowd is very respectful and everyone gets cheers no matter how great or how badly you sing a song. And the karaoke heads that come out and are actually good aren't full of themselves. They're there to have fun and act a fool which(to me)is what karaoke is all about. And the KJ's are super cool! Rae Rae, Billy D and JT are awesome. They even let us bring our own karaoke jams on a flash drive! My only complaint is the mens bathroom. It's practically a closet! The place in general has the potential to be an amazing joint but I'm not the owner/manager. For what it is, you get a cool laid back experience. We'll be coming back for more fun! read more

The bartenders are amazing, especially Rachel, who strike up amazing conversation and always so welcoming. When you drive up to this place at night and see the giant neon sign lit up with "SHENANIGANS", you can't help but feel like you are about to be transported into a flick like Porky's VI. That didn't stop me from going inside for my friend's birthday karaoke, tho. For karaoke, not bad. They have an oddly large stage for doing your thing, and a fairly loud p.a. Not the biggest catalog, but decent. 1 star for that. The stage is also kind of segregated a good distance from the bar, so it's not like the weirdo Common Interest deal where you are singing to a bunch of people who are also watching the Super Bowl at the same exact time. The rest of the place is filled with darts (nicely placed where drunk people are way less likely to be hit, an extra star for that), multiple pool tables, some kind of video poker? quiz? perhaps? and carpet. Ug. Carpet in a divey bar. No. But! oddly, the place didn't reek of smoke like I would have expected a place with carpet to, being as old as it appeared. Another star for that. (There's a weird fenced off area on the sidewalk directly outside that appears to serve as a smoker's 'patio'.) If your destination choices of the evening include the Canary Huts or this place, I might opt for the Shenanigans just because I like saying that word and the karaoke is better. Or you are planning to shove a bunch of steaks down your pants in the supermarket checkout so nobody sees that you are stealing them for your frat party. read more

If you are in the area, and want a laid back time, Shenanigans is a good place to hang out. There are six or seven pool tables, some dart boards, and regular karaoke. What I like about the set-up here is the Karaoke is way over THERE, and I can sit way over HERE and keep chatting with friends. There is a high ceiling in the karaoke area, and when it gets lower by the pub area it tends to block *some* of the singing. There are several TVs and NTN trivia boxes are available. There always seems to be a waitress on duty, so you can hang out at your table and get your favorite libations refilled without having to elbow your way to the bar. This isn't a dance club, a night club, or a place that many under the age of 27 will find interesting. It is a nice watering hole with a laid back crowd. read more

Cockroaches-- Hell no. I live right behind shenanigans & often times walk there with my boyfriend. The staff is SO rude. Every single one of them purposely ignores us- at the bar & at our table(whatever). The final straw was last night, my boyfriend & I were sitting up by a pool table by some neon lights. After about 10 minutes my boyfriend jumped up AND FLICKED A COCKROACH OFF OF HIS ARM! Waited for the "waitress" to come by our new table right in the front and politely let her know. She said "ew, that's gross" and walked up to a regular near our old table. Not sure if she was trying to confirm what happened or what. Never apologized. Dance floor is a pretty good size and they have an electronic jukebox with a pretty good selection. Band that was playing there on NYE - is a house band and they made themselves sound oh so great and so did the venue you but to be TOTALLY HONEST - the band sucked lemons!! For being in the City of Austin (Williamson County) - they post on their door "No Smoking" but they sell a cigrattemachine inside the venue for like $10.00 a pack - thank goodness I don't smoke anymore. Allegedly karaoke happens here but I'm fairly certain I would want no part of it. It's a very large stage though! I inflict damage to the ear holes of random people on a regular basis at Shannie's. I still don't know which nights of the week are typically reserved for Karaoke, but whatever nights they are, they are DRUNK. The KJ - RayRay - is a doll. She doesn't mind my constant hip grinding and references to female genitalia. You've never heard Khia's, "My Neck, My Back" until you've heard it from yours truly after a sad night of drinking until you can't feel feelings. The staff are super friendly and never openly mock or judge you for acting a damn fool by your choice of jukebox "hits" or inappropriate comments that marginalize minorities. In fact I'd say they encourage it. The lovely bar tender and server know most regulars by name and will often follow you on your way out to make sure your drunk ass is not the one behind the wheel. On top of being almost next door to my sisters' and best friends' apartment, this local dive is sure to be a favorite for any looking to admire the finest of North Austin talent and fashion. read more
