This location has been here forever. It's an old school sporting good store. A little on the expensive side, but if you're in need of equipment, it would be a good place to start. People are helpful, and it's pretty neat and orderly. Fairly large selection and you probably could find whatever you're looking for here. read more

This place is probally better than REI, lots of camping, hunting, and fishing gear. I got my boyfriend some nice hunting boots that I could not find in person anywhere except here. They have the best selection and knowledgable staff. I would come back here again and again. read more

Surplus I want to like Sherpers more than I do, but selection of product and prices could be a little better compared to other outfitters in the area. While their selection of surplus-ish stuff, knives and oddities is vast, they don't have as much in eveyday wear. You could definitely get lost going thru some of the stuff they do stock. read more

I've been to this Sherper's location many times, and I'm glad it's here, but everytime I go I usually think "should this be this expensive" or "service is really missing here". Get your camping and army surplus supplies here. They've got a good selection of active shoes and boots, as well. Small section of fishing supplies for those that can't get to Cabela's or even Dunham's. I'm more a fan of Sherper's in Oconomowoc, or Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops, but I'm glad this place is here for the occasional pop in. read more

My husband and I live in the area and stop in somewhat regularly. We are currently planning a fall camping trip next weekend and found our 30+ yr old screen "kitchen" tent we inherited from his parents finally showing wear beyond repair. We stopped in today to see if we could get a deal on a new one and see if any other camping gear caught our interest. We found a great deal on an American-made screen tent 10'x12' exactly like the one we had for $99 (originally $400). We couldn't grab it off the shelf fast enough! It was perfect! Besides that, the guy on the floor was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions about this specific tent without hesitation. This fantastic service and friendliness has been the norm for every time we have been in here. Better and more focused than the larger Rei or Dick's sporting goods, or Outdoor World, Sherper's has everything you need for camping, backpacking, fishing or any other outdoor sport including hunting. (They also carry paintball guns -- I wasn't expecting that.) No-one gives you weird looks if you ask to try out the sleeping bag. Sherper's has a good selection and at good prices. This is a store for the dudes, and I'm sure our friend Dr. Percival Cox would agree. When I was a kid, I would dream of hiding in one of the tents until the store closed and treating the store as my own personal playground. As a young adult, my friend and I used to play a game wherein we would go to Sherpers and walk around until we could agree on one thing that the both of us would buy. Best outcome: Divers knives..... WITH ankle sheathes! Bad ass. Worst outcome: Government surplus MRE's. Bringing a 4 day ration of these things out into the woods is probably the best weight loss plan ever devised. I still love this store, but there isn't a whole lot of focus. You've got an aisle of random military surplus here, a bunch of tents there and one aisle with the biggest cast iron frying pan on earth. There are flags and caps and machetes. Boots, cots and paintball gear. More or less, it's American Science and Surplus for the outdoor set. If you;ve got the time to kill, wander around a while and you'll find something awesome. read more

Think "Cabella's" or "Gander Mountain" but without the glitz. Think "Army Surplus" without the dingy, creepy feel to it. Military, law enforcement, EMT uniforms and gear. All the basics in outdoor gear is here, with decent pricing, too. The store is a little on the dark side with a feel of organized chaos. Hand lettered signs and a mish-mash of fixtures also gives an outlet store feel to the place. the help is friendly and, well, helpful. I heard a guy on the phone tell a customer no, we don't have it, best bet for something like that would be Rutabaga. That happened on Christmas Eve, something right out of Miracle on 34th Street. Lots of interesting stuff, here and there you'll find close-outs and first rate merchandise that's marked down to here. "Wow! Really? That's a good deal!" I was here on Christmas Eve and watched a guy walk out with a kayak, I can't help but wonder who the lucky guy/gal is and how he's gonna get it under the tree - let alone, gift wrapped. Which gives you an idea of what you'll find here - hats, gloves, fishing gear, camping stuff, boots, marine accessories, the aforementioned kayak, and the special pants needed by coppers and EMTs. Shopping in this store is like walking through my survivalist wishlist. Staff was friendly and they have a great selection of 5.11 gear which I love getting to check out in person before making a decision. This place is the opposite of R.E.I. and that's a great thing. There is no pretension here and the prices are really great. Nothing fancy, just tons of cool gear. I usually buy one of their insanely cheap hats each time I stop by. The only place with hats comparably priced is Walmart and who wants to offer up their precious green energy to support that monster's gobbling up of local responsible businesses. Sherper's selection is way better. Army, bee-keeper, old-fashioned police, FBI... whatever hat you want! They have anything you need to camp plus lots of fun old army stuff to dig through. Some funky weapons too! The staff has always been helpful and friendly. They'll usually have some younger people working the register but the older guy (owner maybe?) really knows his stuff if you have any questions. Been going here since I was a kid in grade school. Love wandering around and checking out all the goodies. In addition to everything else mentioned in the reviews here, I also get some sewing supplies (ykk zippers!) here. If I remember correctly they have buttons too the last time I was there. They have boxes and bins (zippers and stuff) you can spend hours rummaging through. I love their winter hats, and of course a nice boot selection at the back of the store. I think I bought my Columbia snow boots here years back. Love this place. read more

Sherper's is a great place to find hunting, camping, and other outdoors supplies in the Milwaukee area. They've been around for many years. Their Hales Corners store used to be in a somewhat cramped and crowded building, and when the area was redeveloped, they ended up in a very nice storefront that's spacious and well-organized. It is a little on the small side, compared to something like Outdoor World at Gurnee Mills, but the staff is knowledgeable and helpful, and you'll probably find what you need here. read more

Fantastic store! Lots of great product for eventful outdoor experiences. The staff is always very helpful and friendly. On a Saturday afternoon, my kids and I went in to ask about kayak rentals. An employee named Adam R. answered all of my many questions and even took the time to hand write information i had asked him so I could leave with a point of reference to take with me. He knew a ton about their stock and the differences between different models of kayaks & canoes; pros vs. cons and options on all of them. I was quite impressed with his knowledge and professionalism especially since I had my young children with me who were being silly and distracting. He was very courteous, informative & helpful. When we are ready to buy kayaks and supplies, we will definitely buy here! I'm glad this store has been around for so many years. It's a great place! read more

My husband bought a pair of black work boots from S herpers and when he got them home and put them on to walk around in the house he noticed they were not sewn correctly. The eyelets didn't line up. One side was sewn crooked. He tried to take them back. They gave us the biggest hassle like there wasn't anything wrong with them. They would only give us credit. My husband bought a pair of Carolina work boots. He usually wears a size 10 but what fit him was a 8 1/2 and was totally uncomfortable. the boots also came apart where they were sewed together after a week. We think Sherpers sells nothing but factory seconds - boots that were sewn wrong or boots that were mislabeled . don't buy anything from sherpers unless you totally check it out for mistakes during manufacturing. We will not go to that store ever again. read more

The absoulute worst customer service I have ever recieved from a manager named Ben. I was not told a specific time to bring back a kayak on the day and was charged for an extra day (was due tuesday, they did not lose business or else i would have understood and agreed with the extra charge). Previous experience was okay here but after dealing with a manager yelling at me over the phone and the store owner doing the same they made me an REI member for life. read more
