Food is awesome . We go camping at Duckett Mill campground, usually 2-3 times a year. This is our 1st trip this year since my Dad passed away March 1st, 2026. I admit that Sherry's Bait and Barbeque had me fooled. The word "Bait" needed some explanation. For local fishermen trying their luck at Lake Lanier, it is a convenient one stop to get fishing bait and that super BBQ sauce dwich to go eat on their boat. But, it is BBQ we want, and Hall County / Gainesville area has plenty of choices. We opted for Sherry's and braved a traffic laden 53 highway that made us patiently wait and turn into the driveway to Sherry's. The red colored store had a small counter, and the menu was on the wall. We ordered the Family Pack with a full slab of BB Rib, the upgraded sides of Mac & Cheese, and a special stew called Brunswick. We also ordered a full pound of the sliced Brisket. 4 buns and KC bbq sauce completed the order. We did the take-home. Sherry's BB ribs were nicely prepared with a mild, non-lingering smoky flavor that is easy to devour. The sweet KC sauce complemented the meaty ribs as well as the vacuum packed sliced Brisket that melted in your mouth with every bite. We sprinkled just a bit of seasoning on the Mac & Cheese and Brunswick Stew. The Beans topped with a slice of Brisket and smothered with KC sauce placed inside the soft bread bun earned praise. Placed an order for pick up on Mother's Day (happy Mother's Day mom!). Everyone was really friendly, from placing the order to picking it up. The location is pretty interesting, there is an actual bait and tackle building in the back, the bbq building and some outside seating. The amazing smell of bbq hits you when walking in. We ordered 1 pound of pulled pork, 1 pound of brisket and 1 quart of Mac and cheese. The pulled pork is usually a fan favorite, but I would say theirs is pretty average. Tasty for sure, but not amazing. The brisket was MUCH better than expected. Most bbq restaurants in Atlanta have great pulled pork and only ok brisket, I would say their brisket is up there with some of the Texas greats. Not too fatty but very tender, easy cut with a fork. Not too salty either (a lot of brisket is too salty imo), just the right level of seasoning. The sauce was sweet and savory, with a bit of vinegar. The mac was super creamy and loaded with cheese. Good little bbq place, stopped in today for lunch. The bbq sandwich tasted very good was big enough to share! I had the potato salad and Brunswick stew for my side. The potato salad was good nothing spectacular but good the Brunswick stew was very thick with vegetables and meat. Husband had the brisket, he said it was good but not great. Stopped in today for take out. Got a pound of sliced beef brisket, half pound of pulled pork and a pint of slaw. The slaw was excellent as was the pulled pork. The brisket was OK but some slices tasted a bit dry and tasted old (in the past it was excellent.). The total bill was $38.75 with tax ( brisket $22.50, pork $9.50, slaw $6.75 ). My visit was on a Thursday between noon and 1PM and they were not busy. The place was very clean and there is plenty of free parking. I would have awarded five stars but the brisket wasn't at the previously tasted level of excellence. At $22.50 a pound I would hope they would not let "dry brisket out of the kitchen." On my next visit if the brisket is below par I will not return as other places serve quality brisket at a much lower cost. I had the misfortune of eating at the food truck. They were quick to take your money but boy were they slow to serve. Literally 3 people ahead of me ordering 1 plate each from a limited menu and it took 15 minutes. Than after we leave and get 10 minutes away realize there is no bread of any kind in this pork dinner. Barbecue places are everywhere here and unfortunately the two times I've tried this place were underwhelming. The food is just okay, I find it very similar to Dickey's. What really put me off it was the service we received. Staff wasn't very helpful when we asked questions, even after telling them we had never been there before. And when we asked for more sauces to go with our (dry) meat were snapped at that it was $.50 for each extra sauce. Honestly, even though this restaurant is just outside my subdivision, I'll take the time to go in to Gainesville or Dawson like to get barbecue elsewhere. read more

Fantastic! I just love the mom n pops. I lucked into finding this place as it was the my last hope before making my turn for the lake house. Sherry, Terry and family could not have been nicer. The restaurant is clean and the food is made was love. All homemade, no junk from a can. The monster mega crappy franchised restaurants out there could learn a thing or two from business model like this one. Yes... it cost a little more to have fresh ingredients, but guess what...IT'S BETTER! Pulled pork was tender and delish and the Brunswick stew was on point. Sherry's is nearby our home and had been on my list to try for months. I ordered take out and wasnt as impressed as I had hoped for. I had the rib plate - the ribs were dry and the Carolina sauce watery. My boyfriend said his sliced brisket was good. For sides, we had the mac n cheese (2 out of 5), green beans (3 out of 5) baked beans (2 out of 5) and Potato Salad (5 out of 5 FANTASTIC). We may come back and give it another try. read more

Stopped by this place for lunch and got 2 pulled pork sandwiches. $17. They were the normal size sandwiches you get at most BBQ joints, I have to say this was the driest BBQ I've ever had in my life. When I was eating it my mouth felt like I'd been walking through the desert with my mouth open and no water for 3 days. I poured every drop of sauce on it they gave me and the meat was still so dry. We had been wanting to try Sherry's for quite some time since they are north of us, away from all traffic in Gainesville, GA. They have a very nice set up but unfortunately falls short of what I have come to expect out of a BBQ place... A good brisket, amazing sides AND friendly service!! My wife joined me for this so she normally gets a veggie platter and ended up with MAC & CHEESE, GREEN BEANS, BBQ BEANS and POTATO SALAD. The MAC & CHEESE was good, cheesy with good cheese taste and the POTATO SALAD was OK, not bad but nothing spectacular. The GREEN BEANS did not taste good to us though and after one bite we thought "are they burned?". The BBQ BEANS tasted like ketchup and had a strong flavor to them, so if you're into those type of beans you'll like them. I ordered a 3 MEAT plate and ordered an additional side since it only comes with 1 side, so I picked the MAC & CHEESE along with CREAM CORN. The MAC & CHEESE as mentioned above was good and the cream corn was creamy and tasty. The pulled pork was OK and could have been a more tender but with their carolina sauce it was good. We have tried many barbecue restaurants in this area and just recently tried Sherry's. We were very impressed by the quality of the food and the friendly atmosphere. The portion sizes were great and prices were reasonable. We tried a brisket plate with cream corn and coleslaw. All I can tell you, is the cream corn is the best I've ever tasted! I had a pulled pork sandwich with macaroni and cheese and Brunswick stew. The sandwich was gigantic! I couldn't finish it! The mac & cheese was incredible... the best I've had outside of grandma's kitchen and the Brunswick stew had a nice kick. There was pleasant banter of people coming and going talking of fishing. I was excited to finally try this place - they have both brisket and tri-tip, which are hard to find in Georgia! I went in to order takeout on the first Saturday they had reopened their dining area, which looked to be set up appropriately (half the tables were blocked off), but two of the three people I saw working there weren't wearing masks, as required in the COVID-19 era. One was a young man who wore his mask under his chin, the other was a man who emerged from the kitchen to hand out an order. I left without ordering. I hope they change their approach, because we really want to try their Q, but only when I can be more confident they can be more respectful of their customers of a certain age. read more

Not Just for Fishing Tackle First of all, if you are not into fishing, don't let the name fool you. Yes, they do have fishing tackle/supplies and bait out back. But inside you can enjoy quite a meal. My retirement buddy and I went there for lunch today. I had the pulled pork sandwich with slaw and Brunswick Stew with sweet tea to drink. My buddy had a sliced brisket sandwich with potato salad. Our sandwiches were on large buns piled high with meat. Both were tender, juicy and delicious. There were three types of barbeque sauce in squeeze bottles. All three were good. My favorite was the KC Hot. My coleslaw was fresh and delicious. The Brunswick Stew was thick and flavorful with very fresh tasting ingredients. The Sweet Tea was really good. My retirement buddy really liked everything on his order also. In summary, we both were surprised at the quality and taste of everything we ordered. We will definitely be returning here. read more

We are staying at Duckett Mill campground and wanted to try a hole in the wall BBQ place. We were not impressed at all. Staff was not friendly like most other southern BBQ places. Pulled pork was very dry on a cold seeded hamburger bun. I have never been to a BBQ place that didnt butter and toast the bun. Kids chicken tenders were the worst I have ever seen at a BBQ place. $5 for 2 small microwaved tenders and a small snack size bag of chips. We will never go back. read more
