I was on my way back from the Chicago Western Suburbs, driving back to Milwaukee after visiting my dying father in a hospital. I had to take a call from a close out of town out of the country relative and it was too cold standing outside to talk to I ducked into the nearest store, this one. There was no one else in the store, and the sales guy came up to see if I needed help but then overheard enough that he politely and discreetly turned around and surreptitiously went about his business. When I finished the phone call he recognized I didn't actually want any paint and left me be even though I didn't leave. I can't explain why but I was staring at some cans of paint, and later it registered on me that they have a pretty good stock, and of course Benjamin Moore is a high quality paint. I think one of the foundations of good customer service is reading customers and figuring out what we need. I'll tell you when I do need paint, I'm coming back here even though it's 45 minutes from where I live. It's next to an excellent Thai restaurant. One more plus, the owner supports the Northwestern Wildcats.

JC Licht was suggested to me as a distributor of Hunter Douglas blinds - to say the least I am so happy they were recommended, they were wonderful to work with. The decorate was absolutely great, she knew her business and her decorator eye and suggestions were really appreciated. I can't say enough about, I believe his name was Andy, but he measured and installed the blinds - wow, you can tell he has done this for sometime. Again, as he was measuring he was asking different questions about how I wanted the blinds to work, again since it has been approximately 20 years ago there were some different issues that were corrected by Andy and what a difference it made. When he installed the blinds he was so knowledgeable, experienced and fast - no mess. All I can say is this was my first experience working with JC Licht, but will definitely use them again.

Kameron was attentive and also made our kids feel welcome in the store as we worked with him through what we needed for our project. He was insightful, attentive and fast, knowing we needed to move quickly. At one point, while both employees were working in the back, I overheard them checking with each other to ensure that all customers in the store were being attending to and nobody overlooked. Additionally, they are very helpful with expert advice when you request it, and there is never any pressure. They also carry everything you need, no matter what you are painting. We took on a big kitchen cabinet refinishing project ourselves and two years later we are still amazed at how luxurious the finish came out with our bold color choice. The finish was so smooth and it wipes up beautifully when smudges happen. Way better experience than any big box store!

While trying to manage my moms transition from the hospital to a skilled nursing facility, my own leave of absence from work, and missing my last child's last football game and all the other senior year activities - I was overwhelmed. I also needed to choose the right paint colors to make their home as attractive to buyers as possible, which in the best of situations is challenging, but I was in a serious pinch. Thankfully, God IS good - all the time! I walked in to JC Licht because they were the closest store to my moms SNF that sold BM paint. Ada (not sure about the spelling, sorry Ada!) approached me and I told her the three paint colors I thought I was looking for - but I really had not had time to consider how much natural light or lack there of, or how the colors would look with their hardwoods, or any of the other dozens of things that can make a paint color "all good" or terrible. She listened to every bit of information I could give her, and confidently told me the paint color and trim color I needed. And she was 100% right!!! She also helped me think through all of the other items I would need, helped me choose the right caulk, make sense of what tools I really needed (as well as what I didn't) and set up an account for me. I thought we'd be out by the middle of November, but as October moved into November, moved into December, I realized that she was right again! I needed one, it cost nothing and saved me a bundle! This young woman knows her stuff and she was SO much more than kind in her assistance to me. Should be a breeze: just look me up, right? Two people working when I walked in: a man helping one customer, then a woman. No greeting, even though they're eyeballing me (first red flag). After some time, the woman does come over and asks if I need anything. I explain the re-order request -- and she's instantly stymied. Apparently, the man is the only one who knows how to look up someone's profile. No worries! Everyone's been the "new guy" at some point, right? Except this dude's also struggling with basic customer service skills. At no point does he acknowledge me. In fact, he kept ignoring his coworker's request for just a bit of help WAY too long to justify. Finally, after a painfully long struggle with the computer, I give up and head over to the Benjamin Moore guys on Milwaukee Ave (who end up being AWESOME, by the way!) Mohammed is owner of this family operated store (Soto Furniture). I must tell you we shopped many larger chain stores, and this past fall had ordered a set and paid in full at Value City furniture. We waited the 4 months for the furniture only to find out they went out of business and never called or refunded our $. Over $4k lost. The bank actually refunded our money because we used a debit card. That is another great review coming. Anyway, we found another set at Ashley and I came across Soto Furniture which is an actual Ashley dealer. Soto had the same furniture set and we saved $1k - no kidding. Why would you not support a local store like this. Furniture was delivered today and the crew was fantastic. Nothing better than supporting a local business who I feel truly appreciate our business.
