I stopped by today near closing time (I would have been there 15 minutes early but it was super difficult to find the store because they don't have an exterior sign--there is apparently some dispute with the contractor, and the shopping center won't let them put up a banner sign--note that it's next to the Mattress store) and only got there about 2 minutes before closing. I had called about 5 minutes before because I was lost and desperate to get my paint sample before they closed. Adam answered the phone and calmly described how to get to the store, and helped me as if he was not in the slightest hurry. I repeatedly apologized and told him I was sorry to come so late, and he repeatedly reassured me that it was fine and it was his pleasure to help me. I brought in two painted foam boards and told him that I wanted a color of the darker kind in the same tone, but halfway between the darker and lighter board. He mixed several different samples for me, including painting them on my board and drying them with a blow-dryer, and adding more mixture until I was satisfied with two samples to take home. Needless to say, this took about 45 minutes, which means he was probably late getting home to dinner, and for that I'm so sorry (but also so grateful, since I have to pick my final paints for my contractor in the next two days)! This kind of great service is exactly why I come to Kelly-Moore (which is family owned) rather than its competitor, who will remain nameless (also, KM has much better prices). But the kicker is that I needed a pint but they said because of "supply" issues they could only sell by the gallon. How convenient. This "supply" issue is an old worn out excuse for highway robbery. I see car dealerships with tons of cars now and yet here this paint company gives that excuse. If they no longer have the formula which BTW was a PP product and all they can do is match at at the price of a gallon go someplace that won't "force" you to buy a gallon and who can also match it for less than a gallon. I will never ever go back there. I might as well throw money out on my lawn.

Painter's paint store. A friend who lives nearby introduced me to this gem. I go here for stuff I…read morecannot get at the other SW stores or when I have a project nearby. For my 1952 duplex, I really wanted to remove the paint from the all-metal vintage kitchen cabinetry and expose the silver on the original cabs and add stainless appiances. Basically, I just want a silver kitchen with splashes of saturated color. Because it is in a wet area, I did not want the cabs to rust, but needed to clear-seal them. So, stripping was in order. As was a clear prophylactic for ultimate protection. For the fastest, sexiest and easiest stripping job, I found Peel Away Smart Strip. It is supposed to be "green"... at least they had green on the label. I wouldn't eat it, though. Another SW had run out of Peel Away, but this old standby had some buckets. A good stripper... I will drive across town and pay good money for that. For the clear-seal, I talked with the guys here about the best commercial application for protecting and sealing the exposed metal. His suggestion worked perfectly: Sherwin Williams Chemical Coating Opex acrylic clear metal lacquer cut 50/50 with lacquer thinner and then sprayed on in several light coats.
