What a fantastic hardware store, high recommend over big box, do not buy propane from them expecting a deal, current propane costs per gallon are less than $3.00 I just had to by over 4.50 a gallon for 20 gallons of propane, much cheaper at other propane dealers. A few years ago, I purchased a new Weber Grill from Brownsboro Hardware. They delivered the new grill and removed my old grill. Today i visited the store to buy a replacement part for my grill. The store clerk advised me to check with Weber to see if the part was under warranty. I went online and my new part is covered under warranty and will be sent to my home. Worst service & communication ever. I called to schedule my grill to be cleaned. It took several calls over 3 1/2 weeks to get a return call to schedule, another 2 1/2 weeks to have them come out and then cancel 20 minutes before they were scheduled to arrive due to threat of rain. Stay far away from brownsboro paint and hardware if you need propane refills. They will absolutely rip you off every time. I had two 40 lb. Lp cylinders to refill--one was empty and the other half-full. These hold 9.5 gallons when empty. I went here and the man said I'd have to pay before filling. I said I don't know how many gallons needed as one of my tanks is partial. Their store policy is that they will charge you for a full tank even if yours is only half empty! I asked if they don't have a meter that reads gallons on their equipment, he says they do but 'it don't matter' they charge for an entire fill up even if I only needed ounces of propane. This is ridiculous as anywhere else charges by the gallon. In this case they would gladly overcharge me for 5 gallons, or over $20 with their already high per gal price! How would you like to get charged for your car's 20 gallon tank if you're only topping off with a half tank EVERY time you bought gas?! This is blatant thievery and these people are crooks at the highest level. Anyone who refills their propane whether it for rvs or grills, or whatever never brings total empty tanks-there's always some left in the tank, just as you won't wait til your car runs out of gas. They seem happy to rip off everyone who walks in the door for a refill. I wish their supplier charged them for 5000 gallons everytime they needed their supply tank topped off with 500 gallons. Zero stars if possible for these thieves. read more

I love this little store. I was in desperate need of ice melt for our ice storm and everyone else was out but these folks had what I needed. I should have started with them first but dumb me wasn't thinking. I was able to get 5 bags of ice melt for my home. Their shelves were completely stocked and have all the supplies you need for our stupid wx. The staff was very friendly and helpful with what I need. Please try and support our local shops. Just a great hardware store. Yes, they're a bit pricier than the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowe's, but the service is exceptional. You're greeted at the door and if you ask for help, they'll take you to what you need. Knowledgeable sales staff that's always willing to go the extra mile. BTW, the store is much larger than it looks. There's 2 floors of hardware! Also, bring your propane tanks for refill. They are having a big Father's Day sale on Grills. So I decided to go look at a Weber Genesis Gas Grill. I've done a lot of research and Weber makes a good product and they stand behind it with a 10 year guarantee. They have the full selection of all the models on display outside so you can see each one and check out the benefits and features. Jim and his staff are most welcoming and helpful. The also have a deal where they will deliver, assemble, install and haul away your old grill. It's more than a good deal because they donate them to someone who sells the old grills for scrape and then donates the proceeds to a local charity. If you have natural gas or propane they can do all the necessary hookups for a nominal charge. They also carry a complete line of tools and accessories for any Weber at reasonable prices. Some of which are also on sale. They are doing some grilling this weekend so if you get there at the right time you might get a free lunch. read more

Incredible experience that lasted only 5 minutes and that's a very good thing. I walked in to find a screw driver because we had just moved to a new apartment and while fixing up the old apartment we didn't have a screwdriver because our tools were packed and moved. I didn't have much time so I wanted to run in and out. An older gentleman walked up and asked if there was something he could help me find. Told him what I was looking for and explained that I didn't need anything complex because I already have all of it I just need a quick fix, and he showed me a 5 buck quick fix that did soooo much and came in super clutch. I've had a change of heart about hardware stores: as much as possible, I plan to go to locally owned hardware stores. I love Brownsboro Hardware! As soon as I walk in the door, I am warmly and sincerely greeted by people who are truly happy to see me. They are very willing to help me find exactly what I want, and to discuss the merits of what I am thinking about buying. There are nice people at the big box hardware stores, but do they really need my business? The smaller stores do, and they are willing to work for it. I patronize them because I really don't want them to go away. Brownsboro Hardware is spacious and attractive. They have a beautiful paint department, as well as some interesting gifts. At Brownsboro Hardware, I can be done with my shopping and on my way in the time it would take me to park at a big box. I like that! read more

Came in during a busy Independence Day weekend to get the supplies needed to DIY a dresser I'd gotten for free online and wanted to beautify. I was greeted fairly quickly and asked what help I needed. A young gentleman took me all around the store picking up the items I requested. When I went to the paint desk, I had a similar experience where I got what I asked for. In both instances I would have loved if they had suggested other items I might have wanted to consider to help my project along but it's not their fault they didn't know this was one of my first DIY projects! I came back a couple of days later to return an item that I didn't end up needing and was treated in a very friendly manner as I did so - always appreciated when you don't get any 'tude about returns! These guys are so helpful. They always have 3-5 people working so someone is always available to find what you're looking for. And unlike the bigbox stores, if you need a washer for your faucet, you'll pay 59 cents as opposed to having to buy a whole faucet "kit:. And they'll tell you what to watch out for when installing (feel the seat etc.). Support your local hardware stores, they'll save you time and money!. read more

For second time in 6 months the staff has been rude to me for just trying to get propane refilled. The first time, the worker seemed put out to do it for me. The second time the cashier was upset that I assumed they swap empties for full ones. I didn't know or care, just wanted propane. I have lived in this area since the 70s and have gone to this hardware store since I was a kid. I even bought my Weber grill from there. This place is outstanding. The staff is top notch. They know where stuff is and have good ideas. They are friendly and available, which sets them miles apart from those big box stores. I go here for as much of my home improvement and gardening needs as possible because the service just can't be beat. Every once in a while, they demonstrate their Big Egg grills, and you can sample a variety of grilled goodies. It's just a great place. Amazing helpful experience today at Brownsboro Hardware. I recently moved and the hardware to set up my bed disappeared. Went to Brownsboro Hardware and immediately was asked if I needed help. Reg was extremely helpful and patient. I'm not very handy but Reg asked all the right questions and we got exactly what we needed! Reg is the BEST!! He has my vote for employee of the year. I used to think hardware stores were total yawners and big box stores were overwhelming. After shopping at Brownsboro Hardware, I have made an about face in my opinion about hardware stores. When you walk into the Brownsboro Plaza store, you are greeted. Joyfully. You don't have to go it alone either. Within a few minutes, one of the friendly staff is reaching out to offer help in finding whatever gizmo/garden device/paint product you vaguely heard about and wanted to check out. Staff offers to help/advise, plus the post office on the upper level, plus the gift/card section, plus the non-overwhelming store size makes this place a pleasure to visit, browse, and ultimately the logical place to make your hardware/gardening supply/stamp purchase. If you go there, be sure to check out the aerial photos of the Brownsboro Road-Watterson Expressway-Shelbyville Road corridors from bygone times; they're hanging on the wall next to the key duplicate counter. Fascinating! When the big box stores grow up, I hope they will be more like Brownsboro Hardware. (Btw, Yelp, I've never been to San Francisco. Perhaps you have confused me with a west coast Angie S who appreciates Brownsboro Hardware so much that she doesn't mind the long commute to get there. ) read more
