When I got home I realized they had mixed the other color mistakenly. I get it. Mistakes happen. I went back the same day, brought another chip and showed the same person that had mixed the original batch what had happened. They acknowledged the error and mixed a new batch but insisted that I had to pay full price for the new quart. Since he wasn't the manager he wasn't authorized to give me "free" paint.

This morning I went to John Boyle Decorating Center (Benjamin Moore) in Wallingford. I planned to…read morerun in, get my paint and run out. Well 1 1/2 hours later I left. I spent that time talking with Aaron about painting my cabinets. We discussed color saturation and the way it absorbs and reflects light. I showed him pictures of my cabinets and discussed the prep work I had done so far and how painful and time consuming this has been. I am fairly skilled at painting but I have never done cabinets before and I have this picture in my mind of how I want them to look. I have researched this over and over. He advised me on product and the differences in primer types and application. He helped me choose just the right shade of wall paint. He had re-done his own cabinets and I got the benefits of his experience. We also ended up talking about my kids, his girlfriend, a project he is working on right now. The owner jumped in too when he wasn't waiting on other customers. I did not feel rushed or bad that I was taking up too much time. The owner carried my box of paint to my car for me and I didn't even ask him too! The bottom line in all of this is we need to support small business. You can see Home Depot and Lowes from the parking lot but I can guarantee that you will never get the level of service I got. I left with more than product. I felt relaxed, informed and appreciated. If you have the need for paint, stop in but don't plan to run in and out if you don't have to.

But to my surprise I see they also offer flooring, blinds (Hunter Douglas & Grabber brands) and help with installation. I primarily went into the store to get one-on-one help choosing paints for my walls. The gentleman helping me (Rick) asked a lot of questions but it was to help narrow down the immense number of paint colors available. Their paint pallet samples are fully stocked for you to take home. They welcome you back if you are not satisfied with your first, second or THIRD choice of colors. The store has 4 interior doors that we would like to be metal. I explained to the gentlemen what I was looking to do. I had the door width and height, swing and that we wanted them to be metal. He asked me if I was a contractor, which I responded no. Every question I asked, such as, is the door depth inclusive of framing and sheetrock for metal doors, I was met with some snide comment about how a contractor would know this answer. I asked what other information he would require so I could come back with the complete information he was requesting. At lighting speed he rattled off about a half dozen things. I asked if I was bothering him and he said he usually works with contractors who know this information. I said will you only sell to contractors, his answer was no, but they know all the information he is looking for. So rude, so condesending. Off to Tull Brothers.

I called a friend who suggested that we dismantle the innards of it and take it down to Builders hardware to see if they could change out the locking mechanism. That they did and rather quickly, even filing down some areas of the new one to ensure a perfect fit. These guys are awesome!!!
