So we bought a house in October. How crazy is that?…read more This house was extremely outdated and was just screaming for a paint job in every room of the house. Lowes, home depot, and Colorworks. Paint was bought at all three. With some things brands don't matter, but with paint, it totally does. The difference was obvious to me, not just in the finished product but also in the application process. The Benjamin Moore paint (which is sold at Colorworks) just went on easier and didn't kill my arm as much as the other two brands. The other thing I can say about Colorworks is that their fidelity to the color is much better than other places. I've never had a problem with color matching when I've had to buy a new can of paint of a color that I'd run out of. Check it out!

Almost a third of their paint samples were missing and what was there wasn't in the right place. When I asked if they had any samples of Manchester Tan out back I was told there wasn't. They weren't able to make me a sample of anything smaller than a PINT (and PS Colorworks, a pint of paint is not a sample) and they couldn't tell me when they would get more samples. The person at the cash register seemed annoyed that I was bothering him and there was a handful of people in the back laughing it up. None of them were interested in helping the customer. I can get small samples of paint anywhere and I can buy Benjamin Moore paint at most hardware stores which is where I will buy my paint in the future. I would hate to bother the employees at Colorworks with my pesky questions about paint.

It is often a busy store--they cater mainly to the busy trade in the Melrose area--so be patient, but if you know what you're looking for, they're great and well organized. While we waited, my son calmly counted the rolls of painter's tape stacked on a shelf, not running around, just counting and stacking. Completely harmless. Out of nowhere, the employee began verbally berating me for letting my toddler make a mess and "be annoying." I was stunned. There was no chaos. There was no disruption. Just a bored little kid counting tape while we waited for service that never came. The tone was hostile, condescending, and completely unprovoked. If this is how they treat parents with well-behaved children, I can't imagine how they treat anyone else. If you want quality paint and a business that treats customers like human beings, go to the Benjamin Moore in Malden or Ace in Stoneham instead. They're friendly, helpful, and professional -- everything this location is not. This store has lost my business permanently. And we've spent thousands as we've renovated our home over the years. But judging by today, they never seemed interested in earning it in the first place.

I needed to match the wood color of my garage door and none of the colors offered by Olympic, Bher and even a Benjmin Moore catalog even come close. A web search turned up forum posts of people getting custom deck stain color matching at Sherwin Williams stores, so I went to the nearest one - the Reading location - where I met Dave, the store manager. Dave was fanatastic. Friendly, helpful and totally professional. He spent a few hours over two days custom mixing a stain on a sample board from my deck to a color chip of the garage finish. It looks absolutely fantastic. What a pro and what a great experience. I literally can not recommend this store and Dave highly enough!

Ryan took care of me and within minutes I had a custom quart size can of paint that I was pretty sure would be a good match. Got home and painted the the spots on the wall. Once it was dry it was a PERFECT match and I was a happy customer. The two young men that work there could not have been nicer. I Ike to support local businesses. Also, they have, next to their register, a potent insecticide for you to mix into your paint to repel bugs. I asked them if it had to be strong enough to do damage to the bugs, how dangerous was it for pets and kids. My answer was "i don't know, they send it to us, we put it out". I think I want to give my money to a store that has a bit more concern for the customer as well as knowledge of their product line and knows how to help a customer. I suggest they drop the 'decorating stores' from their name.
