I had an excellent experience having my first ever MRI at the Wellesley Shields Health MRI office. Julia and Larry who conducted my MRI session were very kind, patient and professional. I had many, many questions and I was quite nervous. They put me at ease and made me completely comfortable with the procedure. I had particular concerns about the contrast injection and that went off without a hitch. Also, I had to contact the main office a few times prior to the procedure to provide information and they were very responsive to my questions. read more

My wife and I have been using shields and rebound there in Wellesley for years. We have always been treated wonderfully by everyone there. There has never been an instance where we weren't made aware of everything that was being done for us. The staff has always been very informative, pleasant, and treated us as if we were family. How someone could fear for there life while there is ridiculous. To me, that person is the mentally unstable one. Lisa has always handled herself in the utmost professional manner, has never been un pleasant, nor have there ever been issues with putting the die in our arm. I'm not new to the MRI rodeo. I'm not new to MRI's with contrast dye. What is new to me is that about half of the dye is currently sitting in my arm and I have a ruptured vein. Lisa, the technician that I had for my MRI went ahead and put the IV into my inner right elbow. Once she started to inject the dye, my arm was on fire. She promptly removed the IV and did a quick 2 fingered massage (which nearly had me in tears) and finished the injection in my right hand. By the time I got to work, which is about a half an hour from Shields, I had a giant hard white lump the size of a grapefruit in my arm. I could barely use my arm, so I left work and went to urgent care near my home. 3 hours later I was told that she did not follow protocol. I've received a few phone calls from the radiologist checking in to see how my arm is doing. I appreciate the fact that he seems to really care that I was manhandled, but I've never had such an experience. I'm a regular blood donor. I'm constantly complimented on my veins. Lisa told me I had weak veins. That's a first. She then said the blood flow stopped. Then she said my vein collapsed. Then she said my vein ruptured. Well, which is it? A, B, C? D for all of the above? It's been over 36 hours since the injection and I have blood pooling in my still swollen arm. Terrible, awful experience.. No preparatory discussion with me about the procedure and then.. when I was on the table and had to adjust myself physically to be comfortable for 40 minutes of laying there, and had some questions regarding the high contrast dye MRI, the injection, etc.. the technician (who was clearly mentally unstable) was annoyed and oddly hostile toward me. It was sort of alarming. From the moment I got on the table for the MRI, I was treated as though this was just a big rush and any questions were intruding into her schedule. It was obvious that this technician was angry and triggered by something that created a kind of sadistic streak.. No really! She grabbed my arm to jab the needle in me with the gadolinium (high contrast dye) and no kidding, my arm was bruised 6" x 2"! This was seriously scary. I am not exaggerating in this review. Then I had to lay there in the machine fuming at first by how I was being treated, I calmed down and tried to shrug it off but it was tough. When I showed photos I took of my arm to the director and someone else, there was this sweet welcome for my feedback but nothing was done, Since I was not taken seriously when deciding to report this to the director, I decided I needed to warn others, at least about this one technician.. I said to the person in charge .."she may actually be a good technician but.. " and before I could finish my sentence she said.."Well yes, that's the thing she's really one of the best we have.. and it's hard to believe what you're saying.." 1) The customer is always "wrong" here... 2) The technician's name is Lisa. * Be warned, 3) I'm fairly positive my life is now in danger. Bad customer service.....I had specific questions and asked to speak to the radiologist prior to the test. I was told that was not possible. Turns out once I left the receiption area, I was permitted to talk with the radiologist. If you ask for something that isn't already in their system, it's not going to happen. I wanted my reprort faxed to a different doc than the one who ordered the test since it was not my regular physician. I provided all the stats they required to add the new doctor. I was given nothing but flack....after much back and forth, the receptionist agreed to send it. It was not done despite being reassured it had been sent. In order to learn the results, I had to sit in traffic and drive back to pick up the report. They do not email anything. Calling to complain fell on deaf ears. Go elsewhere if you don't want to wait for information. read more

This is not a true open MRI at the Wellesley location. I called before my appointment and spoke with a receptionist because I had questions regarding the MRI machine. I suffer from anxiety and claustrophobia. I was told the machine was open on 3 sides and it was in no way a cylinder. She described it as, "two hamburger buns." When I got to my appointment and saw the machine I was so upset, because it was not what they described. There are three types of MRI machines: Traditional (closed cylinder), Wide Bore, and High Field Open. The machine at Wellesley was a WIDE BORE MRI. I am beyond upset and so much time was wasted with this appointment. I will be going to CDI in Dedham. They have a true open mri machine. Unacceptable Shields! read more

My experience at Shields MRI in Wellesley couldn't have been any better. From the centralized scheduling process through the professional and compassionate care I received on site, this place proved that it is top notch. Because of my claustrophobia, I was assured that I would be scanned in the larger (open) machine, which I was told would make for a much more comfortable experience. Prior to my appointment I had the pleasure of speaking with the receptionist, Mechele, who shared with me a little more detail on the machine mechanics and what it would be like and whether I would be head first or feet first. She couldn't have been any more helpful. Upon arrival, I checked in, was greeted by Mechele and introduced to Lisa, the lead technician. Lisa took my history and while doing so, she made me feel at ease, explaining to me what the procedure would involve. And throughout the procedure, she communicated with me, exhibiting such care, making sure I was comfortable and not having any problems. The 30-45 minutes for the procedure flew by. Shields MRI is one of the most widely known services of this type in MA and it's because of the dedicated and compassionate staff and the fine customer service that I experienced, that it has the reputation it does. read more

I never write reviews but had to share my very positive experience recently at Shields in Wellesley. My 7 year old son was very nervous about having an MRI and the staff was amazing. They were very informative, warm, patient and kind to him. The whole experience could not have been better and I am so thankful we got lucky with such a great group of women who took care of him (and me!). read more

I have no idea what this other lady is talking about. I've been here twice for MRIs of my lower back and pelvis. I didn't get contrast done, so maybe I didn't encounter the woman she was talking about, but everyone I had contact with was very nice. Both times recently I left the facility pleasantly surprised by how amazing they were. The facility is nice and clean, check-in was easy and fast, everyone was very nice, and they brought me back to the room quickly. I didn't feel rushed at all. Also, remember they are not doctors. They are really only there to do the scan and get you on your way. They cannot give you any information about it. And your doctor should have explained why you're getting the MRI in the first place. That's not what they are there to do, and since they are not doctors they don't really even know exactly why your doctor ordered the MRI. I felt the process was explained well to me. They let me change into a gown and then took me into a smaller room to get a brief medical history. They then asked what music I'd like to listen to and put it on while the scan was being done. You are not supposed to move during the scan, so that may have been why the technician got annoyed. They did instruct me to let them know if I needed to move. Since the MRI is a lot of little scans, it is best to move between smaller scans so they don't have to do the entire scan over again. However, I never ran into one person that seemed annoyed or hostile. They checked in on me while I was in the scanner multiple times and were always pleasant. Also, whenever you get injections of that sort, there can be bruising. It is fairly normal. If they accidentally hit a vein or something, bruising can be expected. It's a normal part of medical care. However, you likely would have known right away if a vein was broken as bruising would have started pretty quickly. I've also gotten nasty bruises from injections or blood draws when I touch the area too much afterwards. Obviously there is still trauma to the area during any injection, and if you massage it or otherwise aggravate it it will bruise. To be honest, considering how amazing my experiences with Shields in Wellesley have been in the past, I, too, find it hard to believe the technician was behaving inappropriately. I had two hip surgeries previously and had several MRIs before that, so I have other places to compare it to. Shields in Wellesley is great. The office was very, very nice and clean. And again, everyone I encountered was very nice to me. I actually saw the other review while trying to find their phone number, and was so taken aback I figured I should write them another review. I was genuinely surprised at how smoothly and well both my appointments there went, so it's surprising someone had such a bad experience there. To call the technician "mentally unstable" is a bit far-fetched. I doubt they would be having anyone who has any sort of mental disorder working in the medical field. In my opinion, the previous reviewer's post is too absurd to be true. ESPECIALLY given my two wonderful experiences there. And to that poster: to be "fairly positive your life is in danger" is a bit much. Really? From getting bruised by a needle and having someone get annoyed with you because you moved in the middle of a scan? That's a huge accusation, and you shouldn't use it lightly. I think you just had a bad experience (YOU sound a bit mentally unstable, to be honest) and decided to take out your frustrations in the form of a negative Yelp review. Everything you've said is either normal (they cannot give you info about the results of your scan, and you should know why you're getting an MRI. They also HAVE to explain what to do during the scan and what will happen, or else you wouldn't know to lie still etc. AND bruising after an injection is normal) or too far-fetched to be true. All in all, I highly recommend Shields (Wellesley or otherwise) for MRIs. They're great, and I've never has a bad experience at their Wellesley location, or their rt. 9 location (the only two I've been to). I will go back there again for any scans I need in the future, and would tell my friends to go there too. They're great. read more

MRIs are not always pleasant experiences. I have had three MRIs elsewhere previous to having one done by Shields Wellesley - they were the best MRI experience to date. All of the staff was friendly, operators were courteous and explained everything. It was a Saturday, so pretty quiet. Their machine is fairly spacious. You don't go in up to your knees for a head/shoulder MRI as I have elsewhere and there is a fair amount of width. As MRIs go it was a pleasant experience I would definitely go back to them for another if ever needed. read more

I had a cortisone shot at Shields MRI Wellesley earlier this year. It was an incredibly painful experience and the technician was quite impersonal. I chose to do the second one at Newton Wellesley Hospital and there was no comparison. The process was explained to me by both the technician and the nurse. Their manner was kind and comforting. The technician at Shields MRI spent very little time explaining anything and the shot was incredibly painful. I dreaded the second shot because of this but the experience was so much better at Newton Wellesley Hospital that I had to write this review. I don't know the name of the person who did the injection at Shields but it was a woman and she needs to become more competent at her job and a little more kindness would help as well. read more
